Features / Re: New revs
« on April 3rd, 2011, 11:08 PM »
rev 680
(7 files, 9kb)
! Fixed sidebar width in Chrome/Safari, due to a minor glitch in the var parsing regex. (Class-CSS.php)
! Fixed horizontal matching of dt/dd tags not working in IE6/IE7 due to a bug with clear: both and floated elements. Fixed through trial and error... (ie6.css, ie7.css, index.css)
! Fixed main content (next to sidebar) width in most browsers, due to an earlier fix for IE (what else?). (index.css)
- dl.settings_title is never used anywhere. (index.css)
- Can't find #ip_list anywhere either. (rtl.css)
- And .header... I think I removed the last one this week. (webkit.css)
* Modified Warm to make the sidebar blend in with the background, and have a single vertical rule separate it from the main content. (Warm/index.css)

Other software / Re: So, I've been asked...
« on April 3rd, 2011, 10:33 PM »I wasn't directly hurt by them, but I thought the way they handled the situation was just really not the best way at all or even close. So I pretty much stopped watching the thread after that and moved over to reading the AeMe section at Noisen. I definitely think there are people who got hurt by it.
Not that I've ever heard about and just the fact they'd ban the creator of the most popular mod for their software just shows how they really don't think about the consequences of their actions or even the actions themself sometimes.
In the end what they did to you and the fact there hasn't really been any new development to SMF (New Features) in a few years now made my decision to switch to Wedge when it comes out extremely easy and a very fast decision. Pretty much "Simple math."
Yeah, as I said the other day, they "feature-froze" SMF about 3 years and a half ago. I'm sure even Duke Nukem Forever (the father of all vaporware) added plenty of features in 2008 and 2009. (Now that's another reason why it never got out... Because they couldn't stop adding features. But from what I see, after the new guys took over, they took a year to complete it without adding features -- and they're only one month late.)
3 years and a half is a lot. The number one browser at the time was *still* IE6. It was barely being challenged by IE7, and Firefox was only a thing for geeks. Curve works perfectly in IE6. That's not something I would be proud of, personally... :P (Given the resulting tag soup at least.)

The reason i chose to switch is the fact that arantor wad hands down the most helpful person on sm.org, and he teamed up with the author of THE top mod. I tend to side with the one that volenteerily works to be the best they can be. There is no doubt in my mind wedge will be one of the top brands for forum type software if not the best within 1 year of debut.
And i will consider it an honor for their copyright to reside at the bottom of every page view once im able to covert to wedge software. Keep up the kick ass work guys, just dont get too stoned in the english channel, save some for me. :)
Hey Pete, you know you're always welcome at my place, if you want to visit Paris with your girl. We can even discuss programming when you're here. :geek:

@Pete> Yeah... 'twas a different team. Their names shall remain to me as those of the true builders of SMF. Those who actually made it into a worthy platform.
The new generation is in... And it didn't have to do a single effort to get the platform to what it is now. All it has to do is maintain it. And they can't even do that... And to add insult to injury, they can't even handle the human aspects of the job. Yeah.... Good job indeed! ::)

It was really.... not pretty.
Then again, have you ever seen the SMF team handle a crisis in a pretty way?

Errr... Maybe?
Maybe you're talking about the evals? I was thinking about performance issues related to the object overhead.

@Pete> You need to do something about the string object btw... I think I posted a benchmark around in the private area with suggestions on fixing that :p

Oh yes, that I know and sympathize.
But I just didn't think that someone would take offense for seeing me banned. I thought most people didn't even notice... :^^;: (Since the fact that I'm banned is one of the subjects that is subject to a potential ban over there............)

The Pub / Re: did not find this in FaQ
« on April 3rd, 2011, 07:52 PM »got really happy with it thanks to Aevea Media. my favorite mod.
It's Aeva, though, not Aevaveavaea :P (Gesundheit!)
So i waas in my admin area and noticed in my aevea configuration page that future releases would only be available in wedge.
The only thing I'm sure of, is that Wedge will have the commercial package. (Oh wait, maybe I should specify that in the FAQ :P)
aaargh was my first thought (never heard of wedge before)
They say it doesn't clash with their Core Values. I beg to differ... Just the fact that they didn't even contact me personally...
As amateur i am not that good in changing from one board to another without losing my data, will it be possible to install wedge over my current smf installation somehow so i don't lose all my data, uploads and gallery's?
i do wish you all the best, good inspiration and a huge user base when you go public :)

Honestly, it was like making the jump from 1.1.x to 2.0 modding for me;

Just a note-- we currently (and hopefully never?) don't have any plans to monetize Wedge. It's just free of charge (in exchange of which we'd appreciate not to have to deal with the shit that usually comes with software releases :P).
So, we won't release a free package and a paid-for package. Seriously, the main reason I release a paid-for Aeva Media was because it was becoming a real hassle to deal with the tech support, and many people were insulting (especially in the SMF team, which was the first to benefit from my software's popularity!), and I figured they just didn't deserve the effort. Basically: I made people pay when I stopped caring. Hopefully I won't stop caring about Wedge.
Also, texasman, it'd be cheaper for you to go to Arizona. There's someone over there who has it running ;)
