Off-topic / Re: Designs / Themes ?

No it's still under development.
There's a difference between something being abandoned and something being feature complete and no longer needing extensive development. I do fix some minor bugs that show up, as they are reported to me. Sometimes I even add minor improvements based on my experience with Lestrade's (my Wedge-based site).
Thing is, I'm not forcing Wedge down anyone's throat-- it's up to you guys whether or not you want to contribute skins to it.
One of the features in Lestrade's is a dark skin which is generated automatically from a light skin but it's too specific for widespread use, unless I backport it as is.

  • I'm back! Well, I was never gone... Just didn't bother backporting all of my changes.

  • This is more of a test than anything else... (?) Using ENT_NOQUOTES here and there when generating e-mails, instead of ENT_QUOTES or the default setting. Again, this has been in use for a long time on Lestrade's with no issues. I don't remember why I made that change but I'm sure it was for the best. (Subs-Post.php)

I just realized it'll soon be 6 months since my last commit to the Wedge codebase...
Weird.

Does this mean it's... Complete?
Or that I simply wasn't in the mood?
(A lot of things changed in my life right after that last commit, actually.)

Hi Nao. I was always watching Wedge. I would stop by from time to time to see what was up. It's all very impressive. I am sorry there is no more active development.
Well, one can't win every time. I had a winner with Aeva Media 2.0, but releasing a full-fledged free forum system that would include Aeva Media 2 for free in it was apparently too much goodness for everyone to comprehend... ;)

I hate to hear you put all this effort into it for no reward. You did get more experience though and made a lot of good friends I bet in the process.
No long-term friends, and no work experience (it just confirms that I'm a pretty good coder with a vision and the ability to deliver.)
It did help me get less disappointed when Lestrades.com turned out to be a failure due to much inferior competition with way more traction... (Did I hear 'SMF'?)
At least it's not my fault as a developer. And I never tried to assume the role of a marketing specialist, whether it be at wedge.org or lestrades.com, so... I'm putting the blame on whoever SHOULD have done the job. :P

Plus ya made a nice lookin forum software for sure. Kudos to you man. I might still install it to play around...always wondered what was in the admin panel, lol. ;)
Yeah, it was pretty nice. Arantor did a pretty good job refactoring a lot of things there. (And me redesigning the controls. ;))

Yeah it's going well, thanks. Fell in love in the meantime, having lots of sweet moments. And my kid is doing great. Breakups are hard though when a child is involved. But I'm confident it'll all work out.

Hi @bigguy,
I'm fine with competitor/anything links being posted.
Wedge is no longer 'improved' but it's still maintained when a bug is mentioned. Just look at the activity feed at github.com/Wedge/wedge, it's just fine.
I mostly maintain Lestrades.com which is based on Wedge, so whenever I fix a bug in Lestrade's I try to think of backporting it to Wedge. Win-win.
The only 'active' SMF-based forum platform I'm aware of is ElkArte. Plus it's made by cool guys. I prefer Wedge over it, of course, but it's obviously because I built all the features I wanted into it. There are simply no further features I'm interested in, so I'm not implementing anything.
Plus, seriously, I spent 5 years working fulltime on Wedge for no rewards... No one can expect me to keep maintaining it, but I'm still on it from time to time.

I'll never ask anyone for money. It wouldn't bring me much anyway. Forums are much less successful these days than ten years ago. I was just too late on the market, and didn't benefit from word of mouth for all the time the source code was under wrap. My fault, mostly. But I'm still proud of it.

I consider Wedge a failed public project. But it's still successful to me as a résumé entry, I suppose. And I'll always be supporting it. I haven't committed anything in a while but it'll happen as well. I'm just busy rebuilding my life these days, not too focused on my web work.

You can always contact me at Lestrades.com if you have a Steam account. That's the only place I visit daily these days, or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/noisen of course. (I don't go there daily, but I do get notifications.)

Thanks to everyone who reported the couple spammers from these last two weeks, BTW. Spam is rare on Wedge because it can't be automated, but it doesn't mean it's safe from real people who are adamant on posting on 'dead' forums (or so they think. Plus, links on Wedge.org are automatically marked with nofollow, meaning they're worthless when it comes to SEO.)
