Please guys, keep the off-topic stuff to a minimum, I'd really like for this topic to be helpful to non-techies...

You could have created it by yourself, we don't own topic creation rights, but I guess sometimes it's not a reflex ;)

Plugins / Re: Plugin servers / getting plugins to a system

I read into your code and you deleted the original SMF code (imagesize and stuff), maybe you should restore it and use it as a fallback for when $size isn't set at the end of the function...?
Okay, that means two hits to the remote server but blah. And an overload of 16KB compared to the older SMF function, but that's only for <1% of all JPG files so that's a very, VERY fair trade...
(Or we could re-try with a 128KB buffer. But then it won't take other files into account -- e.g. slightly broken PNG and GIF. Not that imagesize can magically get their sizes either.)

Features / New revs - Noob questions?
« on October 20th, 2011, 07:58 AM »
The purpose of this topic is to give a safe haven for readers who:
- find interesting to read the 'New revs' topic,
- mostly don't get a word of it because it's too technical,
- would really like to know what this is all about.
Everytime you see a new revision that intrigues you, feel free to ask here for more details. Chances are, they're already available elsewhere so we'll just point you to them, and if they aren't, we'll take some time to explain -- we help you, we help ourselves.
So, go ahead, this is your topic!

The Pub / Re: When can I download Wedge? / Where can I download Wedge?
« on October 20th, 2011, 06:59 AM »Personally, I prefer to hit 88 mph, when you're gonna see some serious shit
As for everything else, we do try and offer up not only the pictures of how things are going, and the changelog but also insight and discussion into the direction we're going. Not all of that insight and discussion is currently public, but it isn't just two madmen with boxes.

The Pub / Re: When can I download Wedge? / Where can I download Wedge?
« on October 19th, 2011, 08:50 PM »The problem is that people don't really get the fact of how much work is really required and when they realise we've been on this for over a year already, they seem to expect it sooner rather than later...
Of course, back in day one, I would never have imagined Wedge to become such a huge project.
But still... I think we should start showing the demo to everyone. Most of the software is stable -- AFAIK the public area is entirely stable and, if it isn't, it'll be fixed quickly.
We're not ready to show off the admin area yet (because of all the changes in the plugin system, icons, etc, that Pete is working on), so that'll come a bit later...
My current schedule has obviously been modified compared to my last one. Now I'm expecting to release the demo site by the end of October, and hopefully the alpha before the end of the year... and the gold version by January 1st because everybody knows the alpha will only last for a few days :P
Nah, seriously, back when we originally announced it publicly, we were about 6 months away from release (around March), then SMF surprised us and released SMF2 Gold sooner than I expected, so instead of targeting for a release in the week after SMF2 was out, we decided to just not bother with SMF anymore.
You can be sure we'll be out before 2.1 though... :P
We can't promise other forks won't be out before ours, but even if we're not the first to release -- what Wedge holds in its core is something that definitely shows how it's been in development for 14 months now. (Heck, with our New Revs topic, I believe we regularly give ideas to other implementors... :P)
First of all, it puts pressure on us to deliver, which for a hobby project isn't necessarily what we want. But it's interesting to note how many people are enthusiastic, and I suspect that reflects how many people are discontented with SMF 2.0 going final.

Well, I'm not sure... I thought I read about webmasters having to request proper identification from anonymous trollers, and if they didn't provide it, they would be obliged to delete the post.
A few years ago we also had many cases in France where webmasters were sued for hosting libel on their comment forms (even when posted by identified users, and without a prior request to delete said libel.) Many websites actually shut down their comments areas until the decision was reversed or something. It happened several times... Now it seems to have cooled down.
Anyway-- the UK way of doing it, while not terrific, is definitely better than being exposed to lawsuits like that...

It was never meant to be an actual forum. Comments about it should be posted here not there ;)

Doesn't it mainly imply that anonymous posters won't be able to post libel without identifying themselves?
It's too heavy to be applied everywhere but I'm not shocked. I'm probably getting too old to be :P

rev 1122
(6 files, 11kb)
+ Added support for external CSS file loading in skin files (<css include="">). (Subs-Cache.php)
+ Added an example in the form of Warm now using Droid Sans by default, retrieved from Google WebFonts. (Warm/index.css, Warm/skin.xml)
* File lists in JS and CSS includes inside skin files, now need to be separated by spaces, instead of a comma. True enough, commas may be used in URLs while spaces are always urlencoded... (Subs-Cache.php, Warm/skin.xml, Wuthering/skin.xml)
* Minor fixes. (Reports.php, index.css)

Nope... It's about a week behind or so.
So many changes recently, it'd probably be worth resetting it... (And then spreading the URL around :P)

Oh please...
We have a "demo site report" topic where friends post their bug reports... Isn't that enough of a hint? :P
And there are countless topics where I posted how to get the demo site URL... :^^;:

Nah, seriously, I always wanted to have a split representation of coders and users. Plus you have the demo site to play with, haven't you? :P
