The Pub / Re: Logo Madness
« on February 12th, 2014, 04:06 PM »
A few months ago, I posted two logos on a private topic, I'm not posting the direct link because I don't like Google attempting to follow non-followable links. (Type a slash and then ?msg=291216 after wedge.org, and you should reach the page.)
This wasn't the right place to post them, and they're not accessible to 'regular members' (sorry), but I got some positive feedback on them and I put them aside because I was busy on other things.
Then I remembered the tests, and I did some extra work on them.
The result is at https://github.com/Wedge/, where you can see a higher res version of the one I'm thinking of using.

I also have alternative versions, like these:

Do you find any of these to be worth it..? I like their simplicity, really. I also like my fixed Lobster font. My original attempts with this (rather ubiquitous) font were a failure mostly because I used an earlier version of the font, and the new version has better weights, with thinner vertical lines. The handwritten aspect compensates fairly for the guttural sound of the 'Wedge' name. I think it also works better in a wider variety of forum footers (unless maybe on a hard-rock oriented forum... Well, even then :P)
My only issue with simplicity is that it doesn't catch attention as much as the current official logo, of course. (The one on the wedge.org homepage.) But I like it at least more than the current footer logos.
Also, a few days ago I replaced the badges with simpler, more discrete versions based on this new logo. I think they're so discrete, nobody noticed them, but at least it's more in line with the Wilde style...
So, I'm now officially fishing for opinions...! (For those new to this topic: don't bother with the poll, it's old and outdated.)

Archived fixes / Re: Pretty URLs causing 404s
« on February 12th, 2014, 03:25 PM »
AFAIK, admin pages don't use pretty URLs at all, mostly to help against PURL issues, so if you just navigate to ?action=admin, it should be enough...
Did you enable action rerouting with /action, rather than /do/action, by any chance..?
Also, don't forget that Wedge needs the install/.htaccess file to be moved to the root, if you're going to use PURLs. Was this done..?

- PayPal subscriptions were completely, horribly, awfully broken. Took me two days to find out it was a frigging underscore replacing a dash during a rewrite (not mine). Thanks to Maxx and MultiformeIngegno for their multiple fake-donations that allowed me to finally spot it! (Subscriptions-PayPal.php)
- Added some extra error messages in places where the PayPal subscription verification was unsuccessful. (Subscriptions-PayPal.php, ManagePaid.english.php)

Bug reports / Re: Changing Quick Reply to don't show by default breaks Reply, New Topic, etc.
« on February 12th, 2014, 12:28 AM »
I *suppose* that it's a problem due to LiteSpeed. They claim to be 100% Apache compatible, but maybe not!
Yes, I imagine I should look deeper, but I don't know... It's quite annoying that there's no 'proper' way to get pretty URLs other than by using a custom htaccess...! -_-
So, it's... Only with actions..? How about another combination? (Activate actions, disable boards or topics, for instance.)

The trick is to disable pretty URLs...
That's just how it is. Your problem was that clicking the Reply link was redirecting you to the Display page, instead of the Post page, meaning Wedge wasn't correctly translating the URLs.
So this is either due to an incompatibility between your server (it's an Apache..? What version, etc? I could look it up myself though..) and your Wedge install, *or* something trickier, but I don't know what. I'd need FTP and phpMyAdmin access for me, and quite frankly for now I'm focused on too many things at the same time...

Spent a minute over there... Was surprised that indeed it was broken.
Then I fixed it in about 10 seconds.
Then I made it break again.
I'm the Master of All Things Wedgie.
Seriously, what's in your .htaccess, man..?

And don't you get any JavaScript errors in your developer tools' console log...?
Or a Wedge error in your admin area's error log?

Testing on my local install (a really default install)... Seeing no problem. "Show, off by default" is now set by default, can see quick reply, can click reply. Tried to force everyone (i.e. just me) to that, same results...
What do you get instead of these features..?

Broken in what way?
These are the default settings at wedge.org so it must be due to another problem.
I'll look I to it later tonight when I have some time.
Maxx and Lorenzo, I finally got some debug data on PayPal thanks to you, so I should be able to reproduce the problem tonight or tomorrow... :)

- Sortable classes don't need to be limited in width. It looks bad on some pages, and fixing it didn't break anything I could see. (I thought I'd already committed this...) (mana.css)
- Adding a separator between 'no group' and the group list in the profile groups page. Technically, I should be adding more separators. They look good, and I'm barely using them in a dozen places in Wedge at this point (e.g. stats select boxes.) (Profile.template.php)

@Maxx
It's not about few countries not using PayPal . It's the case of few over-fed American id**ts saying that everyone in my country is a scam.
Don't worry though, I'm no stranger to wrongfully acquired reputations, so you're safe here.
I use my Mastercard which Google 2co and thousands of merchants accepts. Thanks but no thanks for the gaypal lecture, others may benefit from it though.
