So, what do I use then...?
- Main website: Forum, all right?
- Below that, Categories (that one is fine...)
- Below that: Boards, or Wedges, or Places, or Spaces, or Corners?
Which are of either type:
- Blogs (that one's a given)
- Sites? Or Webzines? Or Magazines? Or "Custom"?
- Boards or Sub-forums or Topics or Agora or Piazza or something else?

Of course it's not important which is faster. They're both very, very fast. The only place where I feel Chrome is a bit faster than Opera, is in Google Reader. How surprising! ::)
As for extensions, I doubt they will slow down Opera or make it bigger. They took their time to implement that feature... It's gotta be well thought out!

I don't know, at this point I just thought you were doing some dadaist impression of logo concepts... Which worked pretty well BTW :P
I'm really looking for a usable logo, you know! Not something corporate, but something in the spirit of what's being done these days -- sober and cool at the same time.

It's a nice little toy if you ever need to resize a textarea..................
Although for serious browsing with 300 tabs at the same time, you may want to use a real browser... :whistle:

Hopefully it'll be Firefox-like extensions, not Chrome-like crap!
I'm pretty confident, since they *already* made the whole Chrome-like extension crap earlier -- with their widgets concept.

« on October 14th, 2010, 03:02 PM »Something like that, yeah.
Oh god, I wish I would have thought of that earlier: <IDEA>. A tag to help me find cool ideas that are buried inside a topic. Just so they're easier to find later...
So, without further ado: <IDEA>.
Basically you won't be able to make packman ever work that well in its present form, simply because of the way it has to work. If you're search/replacing, invariably two things are going to collide - it's simply a matter of time.
That approach is interesting but flawed - I don't think /* */ syntax works properly inside SQL for example. It needs something totally different to be applied to it.
One solution would be to simply uninstall all mods chronologically (latest to first) until the upgraded mod is found. Then uninstall that mod, and reinstall all other mods in order. Of course it could only work if none of these mods were then hacked into by admins...

Yeah, database stuff, good idea because it would also allow the packman to ask the user whether they want to delete the custom database stuff whenever they're uninstalling the DB... Then they won't have to ask support whether they can safely uninstall to upgrade, etc.
Something like this:
<database>
<table name="new_table">
<field name="id" type="int" size="4" default="" />
</table>
<table name="members">
<field name="you_stink" type="string" default="But life goes on..." position="after" target="id_member" onupgrade="empty_this_field" />
</table>
</database>
Yeah... I can see it working very well.
I'm trying to think of ways to make the packman work as well without getting mod conflict issues... Something like, putting existing code inside comments (/* wedge_mod_THIS_MOD_ID_begin: existing code here with comments turned to *COMMENT* instead of /**/; */ new_code here; /*wedge_mod_THIS_MOD_ID_end */), things that would even enable the mod to be upgraded automatically without uninstalling or using an upgrade script... Things like that... But it's not working out now...

A funny thing...
A place, in French, can among others be translated as "un coin". Litterally a corner, like a speaker's corner.
A wedge, in French, is translated either as "une cale" or... "un coin". Homonyms FTW! In both cases I would translate the name to coin :P

Spaces? Places? And, again: Sites?
So in vB, Board > Forum? Strange indeed...

It just generated an error when saving one's profile account page.

Oh, should have thought of Elder Scrolls...
I played Morrowind until I had to do several tasks for several tribes... Then I had a bug or something that killed the storyline and I didn't want to replay it so I only got to see the end in speedruns. The music sucked, too, so I moved my Oblivion music folder to the Morrowind folder... That worked fine, eheh.

rev 208
- Removed a few past dates from the calendar installer. Also deleted the next Thanksgiving because we won't be out by then. And we're British and French. Do you think we care about Thanksgiving? We can be bastards 365 days a year. That's cool. (install_2-0.sql)
* The unused UTF8 converter added a curious string to the database. Probably not worth looking into it as it'll be removed anyway. (ManageMaintenance.php)
- Removed a $context['utf8'] leftover. Used some escaping so I guess that's why Pete missed it. (Profile-Modify.php)
! Syntax error. (Admin.french.php)
---> Note to self: check why calendar seems to take more than 100% width.Quote from Arantor on October 13th, 2010, 11:52 PM And no way to delete that?

I just had the account sign up regularly, which causes an email, and the email functions still had $charset in them without $charset being defined.

« on October 13th, 2010, 11:42 PM »Well, XenForo (boo hiss) bundles boards, redirection boards, categories and pages under a single parent area called Nodes,
Might as well call them "items", then...
and each of those things as we know them are types of nodes, under which you have 'Forum', 'Link Forum', 'Page' and 'Category' (yes, the vB mentality strikes again :P)
Section is logical and means it's not necessarily tied to being a forum.
What I meant is that Section is the word used in the French translation to stand for "Board". I find it silly, especially as the word "Section" is also used to represent "areas" in that translation... Uh.
I never liked "Sections", which is why I first started to use "Site" long ago. Of course, people may confuse a "site" with the "forum" it's hosted on. It lacks logic but as long as Wedge is a forum system, it's still a "forum site".
Anyway!
