FYI, this rev saved a total of 22.800 bytes (SVN included, so it's not exactly byte for byte.)
Not much, but still welcome...!

All right... Makes more sense when said this way.

"content" is going at a good pace but I'm currently stuck on a styling dilemma with the Display template. I'm crazy enough to spend time trying to fix a single pixel.
Fixed dilemma yesterday. Didn't get to commit any batch. That's because it's moving at a faster pace than I expected... I just finished doing all instances :) Even had time to fix hundreds of indentation bugs, as well as a few other bugs. (http://dev.simplemachines.org/mantis/view.php?id=4505#bugnotes)
Will commit today, but I'll need to review all of my fixes first... (Ah ah, more fun. I'm so tired.)

How 'bout this?
I tried applying the concept to a more 3D'ish icon, but it's hard to retain the 3D effect, eheh...

Well, the icon is actually a Firefox icon from an icon set (DroplineNeu), I just recolored it and took a slice out of it, nothing big. It's the idea I'm inquiring about, not the execution ;)

Apparently, Opera's extension system will be closer in spirit to Chrome, rather than Firefox. *sob*
Still, it will have a tab API among others... I'm sure they'll let us do grouped tabs!

You've lost me at this point.

Anyway -- any opinions on my 'globe wedge' idea?

Yeah... I think what Pete is trying to say, is that WE are the real men I was talking about. :niark:

Ahtalkanus is allegedly on the team as a designer and by his own admission is not a strong programmer.
That's to his credit then, but I'm not as fine with the team hiring non-devs to do dev work.
I mean, why didn't they just invite Bloc instead? He wrote Curve in the first place, he can fix it! Ante's main achievement on Curve was... What? Adding more markup?

As for the display template, I've been trying to figure out how I want to split that up since I think it does need to be split up.
Well, it does. At the very least, we should elaborate on how we implement templating for floating topics.

Today I realized that if we're talking about wedges as part of a greater ensemble, it means they're like "orange wedges", not "simple machine wedges".
Meaning, the French translation would be the same as for the orange -- a "tranche" (slice), or "quartier d'orange".
I like "quartier" because it ALSO means a "place" -- i.e. "quartier général"/"headquarters".
It can also mean a "neighborhood" or "area". Nice for a social network oriented website.

That "wedge" like image inside the w...I think Adonis made something earlier which i liked: a slight bevel on it.
Well, that's what I was looking for originally ;) (I mentioned the noisen logo over at noisen.com. The bevel is precisely there to allow for showing it on dark backgrounds.)
Quote
Font-types..how would you describe how you want wedge to look to the outside world? Your Yanom-kaffe font now suggest stability, but maybe a bit on the safe side. Should it be a bit more "risky"? Harder corners, suggesting a more agressive tone, "I want to go somewhere" kind of attitude?
Ask Pete if you need directions :P
If you just need to know the tone... I personally prefer a serious logo and second degree humour everywhere else. I find that silly logos can be off-putting to people, they need to feel a sense of professionalism on their first visit, and then they need a bit of fun when they stay around.

I was thinking, maybe we should drop the entire "wedge inside the w" thing...
Maybe keep the "w" in a different color, like the current wedgeo version -- have the wedgeo logo, and add a very, very slight white bevel around it (near sub-pixel?), and then we'll think of a logo to put next to it.
I'm thinking, since everyone loves a round logo and I've never done that... And we're looking into the possibility of calling blogs "wedges"...

Anyway -- made a quick mockup and I'm happy with it. It may not be very original, but it works...

Looking at the logs, 99% of what Antechinus does is style tweaks and template fixes. That's basically all he's been doing since the beginning -- visual tweaks. I know I'm doing a lot of these too, as it's one of my favorite things to do, but I'm not that focused...!
Norv does the converter stuff (I ain't importing that, though.) and hasn't committed anything interesting the last 3 weeks. Same for SiNaN, pretty much.
Uh...

"content" is going at a good pace but I'm currently stuck on a styling dilemma with the Display template. I'm crazy enough to spend time trying to fix a single pixel.

rev 217
* Updated to SMF rev 10171, and hacked my own style into the changes. (changelog.txt, tools folder, ManagePaid.php, Profile-Modify.php, Profile-View.php, Subs.php, ie6.css, ie7.css, index.css, GenericMenu.template.php, Post.template.php, Profile.template.php, editor.js)
- Since we're not upgrading from SMF1, removed the dont_repeat_theme_core process in install/upgrade. Kept the equivalent smiley upgrade process for now, because we may need that code for the SMF2->Wedge converter. (install_2-0.sql, upgrade_2-0.sql)
* Improved visuals for the search highlight class. (index.css)
* Improved Wedge logo. Not perfect... But better. (wedgelogo.png)

I postponed work on <div class="content"> until I was done with SMF.
I'll get started today... Will probably commit in several batches because I doubt I'll be finished today.

I did think about that, but it's tied to BoardIndex.php right now, since BoardIndex() gets all the stats, birthdays, recent posts, calendar entries, online folks etc to make it work.
We could simply add a comment in InfoCenter.template.php stating that this is called from within BoardIndex()... No?

Can we do some serious logo'ing now? :niark:
The one below is still closest to what I'm looking for... I made the wedge a bit brighter to make it stand on a black background. Still not happy with it entirely.

The rest, it gets complicated.

I initially said 'wedges' more as a joke but in all seriousness, let's run with that a moment.
I thought you were serious from the start...
Quote
You create a new wedge, of type 'forum board', 'blog' or whatever. Pitch it to the user as dividing up the site into parts. A forum wedge (board), blog wedge (blog board), a link wedge (redirect board), or a content wedge (custom page; I like the idea of free format user pages somewhere in there)
It's really just a portal-type system. Well, hopefully... (Because I never used a portal and probably never will. So I don't know if it requires getting some inspiration from them.) I really want to be able to do webzine-type websites, like dossiers.cyna.fr or, better, general purpose sites (such as a commercial site.) Really add that touch of CMS.

And yes, use a 'wedge' as in 'a triangular section of a pie' is cool in that respect... But OTOH, it pretty much forces me to translate it to 'Section' in French, which is exactly what is being said right now :^^;:

Calling for other members to give their opinions on our many suggestions!

rev 216
* Minor spacing, and French translation. (Post.php, Subs-Graphics.php, ManageSettings.french.php)

(Well, it just means I'm done reviewing your commits :P)

BTW, why call the new file BoardIndexInfoCenter.template.php, rather than just InfoCenter.template.php? I know it's only initialized in the board index, but still... It could be recycled, couldn't it?

(I'm all for removal of recycled code, BTW!)
