The Pub / Re: Not So Mixed Signals

Yikes
I usually do not get involved in these types of discussions because there is almost always more to it than is being said and for that I believe since this is more between Arantor and Nao a public discussion won't do much good.
What I dont like is that as things went forward the impression that was given is that both worked well together at least that how I saw it, of course there would be hiccups and issues but again it always seemed as though both found away to make it work. Obviously that was not what was really happening as this all seems very personal.
Wedge aside - there must be a reason you guys decided to work together, revisit that first, then see what changed along the way, decide if it can be fixed, if not cut the losses which seems to be where things currently stand. If somehow meaningful compromise can be made based on your differing views and work styles, accounting for your individual strengths and weaknesses then try to resolve this but do it privately.
Seriously guys egos and all aside, you guys had vision of bringing together your different ideas to the project either find that common ground again or just be done with it. I'm not the one to tell people what yo do or to get into other people's issues but I really do not think this is for the rest of us to watch. Nao give Pete access to whatever private boards you guys use to discuss things (I'm assuming such a thing existed), hash it out there and if you both feel like it, just let us know the outcome.

That looks sane enough, I see where you're going with it. Since users' profile name will represent their account settings yup i agree thats where logout should live. And on guest view since they do not have a profile all they get to see is login/register.

I'm sold, I've always wanted to do something of the sort then again it's easy to sell me on cleaning up the menu.
Logout button, tho many would argue it's a matters of convenience to have it in the menu, I never liked it there. I like it being buried away a little such as it is when logging out of your email or facebook or whatever.
I always wondered why pm's needed to be so prominent in the menu as well. The profile button I would have called account or my account or whatever and indeed have the pm stuff there and have logout as the last option.
If they can be neatly placed elsewhere outside the menu, I can be easily sold on that as well, otherwise stick it all under profile or whatever u want to call it and have the number of new pm's shown similar to the error log counter if it has to stay in the menu.

With the recent changes, the sidebar no longer shows on windows phone 8, ie10.
When i click the 3 bars, the screen slides as expected but the sidebar does show, just the blank white area. When I click anywhere outside that area the screen retracts as expected.

Actually clearing the cache fixed it, should have thought of that sooner. Works as intended everywhere. Nice job.

I like it ad well
Just want to point out on windows phone 8 IE 10, while viewing a topic if I try to access the sidebar it does not stay in view it slides away on its own. If I'm viewing the homepage wedge.org The sidebar slides out and stays out until i decided to swipe it away.

So I find myself surfing around more on my phone of late. In portrait mode I'd have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the sidebar anyway so I'd be fine with it hidden to the left and shown on tap or swipe.
As for the menu in the sidebar, I'd probably have to see a screenie or see it in use case to form a real opinion there. For now I cant say I like it, not because of the extra taps or swipes but simply the menu seems fine as it is now to me.
The idea of 2 sidebars is also something I'd probably have to see or use to get a feel for it and then give some real feedback. My current take on it is it will make an already small screen even smaller. On second thought I'm assuming the double sidebar would only be visible when interacting with the menu so it probably wouldnt matter as far as screen size goes.

You know I do remember reading that quote notifications either existed or was coming at some point. I even checked my notifications to see if was there then decided I must have cooked that idea up in my head lol. It would just qualify as something I personally had to disable; well only if misuse was rampant.

I'm not so sure notifications should be added for "quoted"/"reply to" posts because of exactly as you said, quoting tends to be misused quite often. Imagine you reply to a topic and the next person instead of just replying to the topic quoted you (misusing the quote button) now you get a notification that User A replied to your post in topic X and when you read it, it turns out they just misused quoting.... the number of times that can happen would simply annoy me to essentially disable being notified of a reply to a "post" of mine within a topic.

Never looked at XF, but I think I'd rather expand and collapse with more and less options than scrolling, though there is the link I could use to go back to the original post (if it still exists) but that post could be pages back sometimes.

« on June 21st, 2013, 03:54 AM ».........they don't have a separation between quote and reply, they just have the reply button which autoquotes the message you're pressing Reply to. In essence, they're encouraging this behaviour. Not saying it's right, but it's interesting.
My thought was more along the lines of making the "quote" button a "Reply To" button which autoquotes the post in the button was pressed, but, if the quoted post is more than say 3 or 4 lines we only show the first 3/4 lines then a more button to view the rest.

Yup. I can forsee fringe cases where someone will have 2 or more large groups in there depending on how they use it and that can get really long and ugly.
I did something like that with the staff page mod in SMF due to the circum stances under which it was being used we needed certain groups to be shown and most were pretty big.
