Oh, and by the way, now that that screenshot covers all the navigation items on the menu, guess what! The 'My Messages' menu item is now GONE.

<insert obligatory "Aaaand it's GONE" Joker quote>
Off-topic / Re: This is why I complain about tracking hits

Pete, you (at least) have my go-ahead to stop tracking *guests*, where they be human or bots, and just track members.
I think that this element (number of members online) is still worth tracking, at least on large communities, because it shows the commitment level over time; and if there are many guests (slashdotting etc), some of them are bound to register, and thus increase the number of online members, so as a 'relative' number, it's still working! :)

Why not add a physical button as well instead of solely relying on a swipe gesture (I'm thinking jQuery mobile's panels here, they can help you with this)?
This was in my plans before uploading, actually, but I never could seem to find a proper place to put that button in, so I decided to go for a drop shadow on the left side, that would 'hint' at the ability to swipe... But if you have a (visually) good solution, please share...!
Otherwise the menu's font is too big but the idea is pretty cool!
Also, I tested the setup on my iPod earlier, and was stunned by the awful menu size, eh... It's actually, like, twice bigger than what I have on my regular test setup, i.e. my Android-based S3 device, meaning I'll have to fix this, of course.
I take it you tested on iOS, right..?

Also, the iOS version is WAY too eager to open the panel, as a very, very small swipe (even an accidental slow swipe) triggers it, while on my S3, you have to do a conscious swipe, hmm... This, I guess, also needs a quick fix...

Oh, and I finally found a nice way to make it work on desktops...! I can't believe it!

- The problem was that the drop zone for the mouse was too small (about 30 pixels wide, 100% height), and I couldn't decide between a 100ms or 200ms delay before triggering the popup.
- All of this means, you need to make a proper effort to take your mouse to the extreme left of the window (which, at this point, is almost guaranteed NOT to be stuck to the left side of the screen, meaning you need to correctly position it), and then wait for a tenth of a second, then move the mouse... Really, really painful, compared to moving the wheel to the bottom of the page, and then reading there...

Then I thought... Wheel..? Mouse wheel....? Can't I hook something into that..?!
And it occurred to me, clear as ever: even though I never did it, I can certainly hook into the friggin' wheel *button*...!
So, I did JUST THAT. I added a mousedown event, and if e.which is 2, trigger the panel, to open it or close it.
You can try it now... :)

What do you think..? Is it good material, or is there any good reason why I shouldn't cancel the usual wheel button, which in 99% of all cases would simply trigger a mode that allows you to scroll the window with a mouse move, something I'm pretty sure most people would never do consciously, thus meaning a waste of time, having to re-click the button to untrigger this mode..?

Note I also ensured that a middle-click on a link wouldn't trigger the panel, because usually you'd do that to open the link in a new tab, of course...
IIRC we had actually done some work on it but I'd need to check to be sure.

Did not think of that but I should put in a link to show more members in large groups.

So, long story short, as part of what I'm doing out here in the US, I'm building a website for it and it's an SMF install[1] with a ported WP theme[2]

And so while I'm gutting SMF's shonky old markup (and dear god it is, I forgot how far we came with it), I got to thinking. Yes, really, all this build up for a small point.[3]

On the board index we have:
Most Online Today: 25. Most Online Ever: 98 (July 7th, 2012, 08:52 AM)

or similar. I want it gone. I see no reason to keep the maximum number of people online today (which is guests + members + bots), nor do I see a need to keep the most online ever stat. They only serve as a 'we were this busy at > this < time'. Which if the record was set some time ago, could be a problem.[4]

I just see no reason to keep it. It's logic we don't need, queries we can save on the board index, etc.
 1. Needs stability, I won't be able to babysit it all the time, nor will the people taking it on after I'm done be as technically minded as I am so maintenance needs to be easy.
 2. Porting a WP theme was easier when I stopped trying to look at the PHP. There's no licence issue here because I'm not distributing the result. GPLv2 is awesome in that respect.
 3. It's a bit of a liberty for my 14kth post but what are you going to do about it? In response to the comment about displaying it as 14k, I have no problem with that. When you're < 1000 posts, each post matters. When you get to the thousands, nothing nearer than the hundreds mark even matters. 13.9k to 14k matters. 13k to 13.1k is an indication of progress, in a way that 13099 to 13100 isn't. I'd be quite happy to see post counts formatted that way in main display.
 4. Especially if your figures happen to be: Most Online Today: 1,555. Most Online Ever: 3,726 (January 18, 2008, 10:00:17 PM)

As long as the data is their does it really matter if we have to reset perms. Seems if one is moving to a new platform people should be expected to have to reset settings.
