Other software / Re: SMF 2.0 final THIS MONTH?
« on May 10th, 2011, 04:42 PM »Just some legal observations.
1) Article 1 has no sections. Even in the State of Nevada where many questionable incorporation's occur, a designated section is to be declared, not omitted as "Article I Section 1"
2) Article II is missing Section 1.0 through 2.0.
I could go on with all the legal infractions and questionable declarations here, suffice it to say the whole Bylaw is questionable and would be a fools arrand to defend if ever challenged.
My uncle is on the BoD of an NPO (Florida) and no sections are declared in any article of the bylaws that only has 1 section... mind you this company has been around over 10 years.
- Is this right or wrong I dont know... but it makes sense to me.
I'm sure section 2.1 actually means Article 2, section 1 what as 2.2 is Article 2, section2
- I've seen other legal docs written like this (only they didn't pertain to a bylaws)

They almost don't have a choice since they are ensuring the end of the month... I take that to mean where ever we are at that point we will call it 2.0 final and release it, even if there has to be 2.0.1 on June 1st

As a former vB user I'll admit my decision was purely based on "you get what you pay for" so free wasn't so appealing at the time. for over 2 years a friend over-advertised the hell out of SMF to me and frankly I just didn't wanna hear it for the most part. The fact though that i was running a rather simple community means I didn't need about 50% of the fluff built into vB, so I decided to give this SMF thing a shot.
I don't doubt at all that some people just want that peace of mind that comes at the price of paying for something.

Features / Re: Ditching themes? (+ CSS preparsing)
« on May 1st, 2011, 04:28 PM »
From a user standpoint I never use the default theme as the forum's default theme. I know squat about making variations from CSS (i know squat about CSS period :P), so I'm usually on the look out for a theme that appeals to me in design and colour scheme. Whichever way you guys decide to go, ass long as I can find a theme to my liking and install it somehow (fairly easily) I'm happy :)

The thing I dislike most about that guy is not so much that he attempts to stand his ground on anything he says but the fact that each time he's asked to put up or shut up as in lay down a plan that makes sense or provide some code to back his pie dreams.... he resorts to blaming his short fall and failuers in his life on his son. I find that absolutely repulsive.

I agree with you on the news fader Arantor; however it's something I use to use until I installed a theme that it just looked like crap on, but that only lead me to disable it in all themes instead. That even lead me to overall stop using the news all together a use a board for that instead.
Personally I only think the theme settings make sense if a theme is adding new settings not for the settings that are provided by default.

Plugins / Re: Wedge + SMF Mods
« on April 27th, 2011, 03:10 PM »
As much I use facebook related mods, I'd say anything facebook related should be mod/plugin material. Facebook updates their shit quite often, many times breaking how things work and so on, you wouldnt want to have to update the whole forum just to keep up with their excessive changes.

Which ones do you see worth being theme options.
I actually dont mind where we have to go to set the options, I just don't think they need to be per theme... leave them there but just have one list of options instead of being theme specific... tho I'd rather a tab under Features and Options for 'Default Preferences' or 'Default Member Options'

I honestly don't understand why most if not all of those are theme options at all... I cant think of a single situation where I wouldn't expect the same options across all themes. I mean I cant see a user wanting their options to be different based on the theme, I just see all of those as user options/preferences and that's it.
I hardly even understand why some (maybe all) of the theme settings are theme related either. SMF has these options out of the box so once set I would expect that to be it, if I install a new theme I'd expect it to adapt the settings. So far only Bloc's themes IMO have a reason to add theme settings since his premium themes actually adds settings not provided by default.

Footnotes is quite an awesome mod, I found it over on noisen a while back. It certainly does help me to stay on topic and add my foot notes where necessary so I don't interrupt the flow of my posts.
