Archived fixes / Re: Modify board: \
« on November 5th, 2012, 04:15 AM »Or should it? If it's a board you can see but can't enter, should you be able to see the last post?

Features / Re: Something really strange just occurred to me

I like the idea quite a bit actually. I think I was more annoyed that I could not rename it more than anything else. Making it a physical group sounds right to me.

The Pub / Re: Looking for volunteers to test the Wedge private alpha!
« on November 2nd, 2012, 02:17 AM »- Just want to reiterate that the private alpha is only meant to be for a short time. Well, 'short' may be relative just as I planned to release Wedge back in 2011 (I'm too old for this shit™), but really the goal is to make sure that most people will be able to install it without trouble and play with it immediately.

Great to see the private alpha has come to fruition :)
Much as I'd love to get in on it, these days there just aren't enough days in my day. I've become more of a reader of late so i'll just kick back and re the bugs and fixes for now.
Great job guys.

Off-topic / Re: Meaning of usernames
« on October 12th, 2012, 01:22 AM »
As a kid my grandmother always called me Spoogy (honestly don;t know why) as the years passed my friends dropped the y and added the s calling me Spoogs and many variations of, but I liked Spoogs best so I stuck with it.
Another name I've used online for quite some time is/was Bandilero, intentionally spelled wrong. It's the title of my favourite song growing up and as I'm Jamaican our dialect Patios we spell the words exactly as they sound when we say them no matter how close the English equivalent is.

Sounds interesting but I'd lean plugin here, along the lines of Annoy User triggered by a filter to hide all posts.
How would a quoted post of theirs be handled?

I'd be been one for sub categories in the past so i'd be on board with this. Took me quite some time to get use to Category>Board>Child Board in SMF.

Plugins / Re: Something I started working on
« on September 7th, 2012, 05:16 AM »Just going to leave this one here... (in case it's not clear, the dropdown in quick moderation can be extended now without too much kerfuffle)[1]
1. In the mod that Nas and I worked on, though I can't remember if it was ever finished, under the SD Team account, we actually wanted to do this but there was simply no nice way of doing it in SMF.
Also, to answer Spoogs' question, yes, there will somewhere be a list of unsolved topics for the boards in question. But I still need to make other changes to Wedge to support some of the functionality I want, so it's further down the list.

Very useful indeed.
List of unresolved topics coming eventually?

The Pub / Re: Controversial idea: post moderation on by default
« on September 6th, 2012, 04:31 AM »
I do get your point fully.Quote I'm all for soft delete, by definition not permanently gone and having the option to restore.
I always hated the way this was handled in vb, especially when more than just 2 or 3 posts are removed.
I think it was discussed before that there could be a user option as to whether to display those inline deletes or not, I can live with that if it applies to admin as well :P
All in all I can get use to the inline soft delete though.
Post 1: <says something interesting>
Post 2: <blatant insult>
Post 3: The post above me is rubbish.
Now delete post 2. In the classic context you're left with:
Post 1: <says something interesting>
Post 3: The post above me is rubbish.
Which artificially distorts the meaning behind it, though unintentionally. Perhaps there's education that Post 3's author should be more specific, but whatever, it's caused more than one row that I've seen on sm.org, let alone elsewhere.
Under what I'm suggesting you'd have:
Post 1: <says something interesting>
-- this post has been deleted by a moderator --
Post 3: The post above me is rubbish.

The Pub / Re: Controversial idea: post moderation on by default

No difference... I agree using soft delete can work but also stating i don't like the whole idea of seeing a deleted post in a topic. When we unapprove a post a decision is usually reached to either re-approve it or be off the the recycle bin. so what I dislike about in-line delete is that if we decide the post was unacceptable it remains right there in the post just invisible or hidden t those without proper permission to view it. I much rather be off to the designated trash with it (whatever direction that takes in wedge).

Like I said you did cover it ;)
Though it's practical to use the report function we actually (maybe I should say I) don;t like the moderation center much. Heck I was one of the ones hoping to get a moderation board mod or something of the sort instead. For us hitting the unapprove button and making a quick post on our moderator discussion board seemed like second nature.
Soft delete could work also though I'm not much a fan of in-line delete.
In it's current existence in SMF deleting the topic/post isn't practical, so I'd be curious to see how it all plays out.
