A nice kick in the CSS
« on August 3rd, 2011, 10:14 PM »
Tonight's a special night to me. I installed another copy of Wedge on the server, and I finally ran TE's import tool on Wedge.org. I just... wanted to see if it would work. And it does!

It's not perfect, has bugs here and there, doesn't import attachments and avatars yet, but you have absolutely no idea how wonderful it was for me to find myself face to face with a fully converted SMF forum running Wedge. The dream has finally come true!

And it looks gorgeous. There's no better way to test a design than to insert real data into it. I'm really happy with it now. I wasn't sure -- now I am. Party on! (Oh, and we're trying new Wedge logos, if you didn't notice. It's not final yet, but you can follow the process in the Logo Madness topic. Everything's public. Because that's how we do things at Wedge.)

Right on, congrats on this next stage of development. :eheh:

Oh, that's awesome :)

I should note that as I refine some of the systems I'm working on, I'm likely to break stuff and then need to fix the importer but all in all, looking good :)

Yeah plenty of little bugs like I said. But I didn't even expect it to succeed. I don't think it'll take more than a few days of testing to fix all of the bugs. :)

Well, I'm sure Thorsten will happily fix the import tool by himself. He should be very proud of it, it ran really smoothly for me. Hey, he even used <fieldset> to take advantage of our fieldset redesign!

Thorsten has indeed done a very, very nice job on this :)

A fieldset is an HTML-described container of tags, it puts a nice border around things.

Practical example: go to an SMF forum, Admin > Main > News and Newsletters > Settings, then open the permissions option for either of the options. You get a box containing the permissions appear - the nice border around it is a frameset.

Doh! I was thinking "converter", = "operations on the database".

Nevermind.

Well, the converter IS that. Just the fieldset usage follows the UI conventions we've been using in the admin panel, i.e. fieldsets where it makes sense to do so.

I didn't actually expect to have a converter ready by the time we'd go alpha, so it means that when we actually go alpha, we can start getting bug reports faster than usual. If only because it'll be in use here ;)
