Is Wordpress actually Most SEO CMS?
« on August 22nd, 2013, 03:51 PM »
There many hype following wordpress in various websites, forums etc which  relates to webmasters/SEO that Wordpress is the most Search Engine Friendly cms. I have my doubt initially but I decided to do my own testing. I downloaded and install in a newly purchased .com domain name, virtually no backlink apart for a few from my blogger blog. I am surprise to see it rank high with two weeks in both Bing and yahoo search No.3! Not that ranked in Google as I believe Google will pick it up in the next update. Do I add my keyword is celebrity and entertainment related which means more competition.
How do wordpress do this?

One: the theme. WP themes tend to be minimalist on code.

Two, and this is the killer: CONTENT. WP sites have fuck all other than the content you give them. The upside of this, of course, is that whatever you do put in them gets higher priority out of the site.

This of course assumes a degree of ceteris paribus, i.e. that if you'd put the same content in other systems it would do relatively well anyway because it's *good* content. Presumably as it's a blog and you have total control over what you're doing (unlike a forum where not all of the content is yours), you made it keyword rich etc. which is nothing to do with WordPress.

IOW, it's actually not really a lot to do with WP itself, more the conditions of running a blog as a whole.

Or maybe Airtel minimized query than other cms and forum softwares. I remember in the month of May/June. Two of topics on my forums where ranked 1st respectively on Google. There was a serious and huge traffic flow in my forum. This lead to frequent 'death' of my sql, many members complained on this and I think Google got the clue as those topics that were highy ranked are now where today in Google others mainly wordpress website overtook and remained on top. The lesson I learnt on this is that most forum softwares are highly rankd  but fails to retain the spot. While wordpress they trust., I may be wrong though.

Um, I have no idea what point you're trying to make but I think you're wrong with some of the things you're hinting at.

Airtel?

WP doesn't minimise queries at all. It has 20 queries for the front page in a fresh install. Ain't nothing efficient about that.

If you have slow loading issues or page failed errors due to MySQL failing, two things happen. Firstly, Google downranks you because of slowness. Secondly, if the page just fails rather than having content, Google downranks you because the URL doesn't work or doesn't have content. Both circumstances mean you get downranked.

And you're still missing every single point I made about WP above.

Airtel?
Please don't mind my aged brain. I mean wordpress. The keyword in question that ranked me was Airtel. Sorry for the mix.
That's what you get from getting old. :)
I understand you, it's based on the content and keyword management (as in blogger managing his contents well).
I was thinking that Google may be favoring Wordpress powered blog.
Thanks for the explanation.

Maybe related (or not) : http://www.viperchill.com/new-seo/

Looks like Google will put new content above the old ones before settling what is your true rank of your content in search result. If the CTR is good and bounce is low (If you got analytics they will know this quite accurately) then your content is good and your rank is stay in good spot.

But I'm not a SEO expert here, personally I just concentrating making new contents.

Here's the thing... Google changes its algorithm regularly. Far too regularly, including reranking, for anyone to be able to understand what's actually going on. What worked 6 months ago won't work so well today, and probably might work again better in 6 months time.

Google uses a lot of things for ranking. One of the key things is to do with link 'reputation'. Inbound links to a page, outbound links from that page, and so on - a lot of inbound links to a page that aren't site-wide navigation are important, and are a sign that a page is probably more authoritative about its content. (Not the only sign but a sign, sure)

If a page is new, it doesn't have that - but if a page is old and doesn't have many inbound links, odds are it's not that authoritative either. In absence of any other relevant criteria, Google seems to be taking the newer page as slightly more authoritative for simple virtue of the fact that it's newer and presumably therefore not outdated contextually.

SEO, after all, is a lie.  You can have the best SEO of the world - people want content, not search engine optimizations. I, for one, create websites to gather people, not bots.

Agreed.

My technique for seo in Wedge is to simply use as little markup as possible and use HTML tags if it makes sense.

Less markup = better signal to noise ratio in a page. I'm sure Google likes that, but I'm no expert...

SEO is a lie, SEO is dead ... blah blah blah. That's trash I have being hearing from some hypocrites for many years now, true Google is clearly telling webmasters to build websites that will focus on the real human visitors and not bots but the truth remains, Google respects search engine traffic more than any other sources (eg. Social media,direct...), disagree? Checkout Google Adsense.
There is this friend of mine who have a website that attracts more than 5million hits per month and yet was banned by Google because he was told that he doesn't have quality traffic, his websites have tons of content and uncountable comments but ranks poorly in search engine due to the CMS he built his website with.
The reason why I called SEO dead campaigners hypocrites is because most of them goes a very long way to ensure SEO even to the point of paying the so called SEO companies.
The reason why Google was advocating 'building website for real humans' and not bots is because people will always visit your website because of content and some newbies who know almost nothing in SEO would have little or no content and yet expects Search engine bots to refer every search keywords to their websites.
I agree with @Nao though I disagree with SEO IS DEAD EPISODE. As a webmaster, here is how I always plan my new website
1. Pick Domain Name - Simple and Niche related
2.Pick a CMS (or whatever) which MUST be both search engine friendly and user friendly (mobile compatibility is a must!)
3.Focus on content and feedback from the users.
4.Update and Optimize.

Build a website process is just like poultry - Chicken and Egg which comes first situation.
The truth is you must get the chicken (buying, stealing or what ever) which in turns will lay eggs. I may not have money to buy chicken but if I got it somewhere else, must I be judged?

@Wanchope,
thumbs up!
This is really true and since the last Penguin update some really good sites (including mine) get' a dramatically hit. For what reason? Not so SEO-friendly.
I'll daily have a lookout on my keywords for what we were over years still No. 1 in search results.
Now some really crappy and  small sites are  on that position.
To get things straight:: most of the sites will get about 50% of their visitors from Google.
If you're not do some SEO, you'll be lost.

See, my site has around 500.000 unique visitors and about 3 Million PI / month.
Before the last Penguin update we have about 11 Million sites indexed by Google. After update only 1,1 Million are now indexed.. :(
And that for an site with really great unique content, that domain is over 12 years old and has about 2.4 Mio forum posts?
Hmmm...

Now I came back to your post.
SEO is most needed then ever nowadays.
My CMS is written in PHP3 and has some really ugly url patterns. So for me there's a lot to do to get back the love of Google ;)

For advertising unique visitors :)
For forum activity recurring.

The culprit is to make unique visitors recurring ones ;)
There's always a float of user activity. So both are important.

I, for one, don't give much on a site's Google ranking. I don't even use Google. When I am looking for information, meta and title tags are less interesting than a site's content.
