There are no plans to directly import from SMF 1.1.x at this stage, so you'd tend to upgrade to SMF 2 first.
Thought so... adds something to his own to do list.
Bender: Ahhh, what an awful dream. Ones and zeroes everywhere... and I thought I saw a two.
Fry: Don't worry, Bender.  There's no such thing as two.

If one can.
I know I never managed to upgrade one of my boards... (Always generated errors.)

Oh, I've done a few upgrades, the forums were relatively unmodified and thus adhering mostly to the base structure.

No SMF themes or mods will work at all, other than what we directly add to the core, the changes already for this have gone beyond the point where a standard package will work.
To just to be clear, all extraneous mod data on someone's forum will just be dropped when being imported, right? Only the data that Wedge accepts will be pulled from the imported forum?

Well, Wedge will import what it knows about - but will leave everything else alone and intact, so that if an import module later appears, you can then retrieve that too.

Yeah, other mods we can't do much about but modders can certainly make importers for their own work... :)

That's generally the plan, though there's no reason why we couldn't provide quasi-official importers. For example, a gallery will be inbuilt, so the AeMe importer is a no-brainer. But there's no practical reason why we couldn't add a Coppermine importer. There is, unfortunately, a reason why we can't provide an SGL/SGP importer but that's a story for another day.

You might have been ninja'd, but you explained it better ;)

Yes, that's the plan - generally, to be non destructive, so that you import it alongside the existing site, and if you're happy, move the forum into the place of the old one.

The other benefit of having it like that means it's possible to write importers for all kinds of things, not just other forum systems - but other gallery systems, other mods and so on
Can you please explain - assuming 2gold is running on my forum......
Would access to Wedge be something like .myforum.com/wedge (with 2gold running from .myforum.com until i am happy to switch to Wedge.
I am a bit numb when it comes to the nitty gritty  ::)
cheers

Yes but you can't run both forums on the same tables. You have to import them then you can run them side to side.

I guess I'll have one more transition to SMF2.0 Gold before moving on with the upcoming wedge.

Ah yes of course - I'd been wondering whether to switch to SMF2 when it's released, or wait a bit longer for Wedge. But the answer is 'both' :)
