Off-topic / Re: Dial Up BBS

Dial up BBS? Nope. I do remember Webtv and WinMX though. Dat program to get free songs. xD. I hated it because whenever I used the computer (not owned by me), the owner would pop open that program and it only ate up my dial up connection. Once the music finished downloading, they were rarely played anyway. So happy I finally saved up and got my own machine.

Better late than never and about time I create a footprint here. :)

I was referred to here. About me: I'm a coder and an artist. I enjoy the freedom of writing softwares exactly the way I expect them to function. When I'm not coding, I'm working on someone's computer, reading various things I've stumble upon online, chatting, playing a children's card game (Yugioh )/browser based games, draw/graphic design if I have enough inspiration or watching/reading anime/manga respectively.

I mainly use MyBB for my forums (Used to been really into phpBB forums because of the huge availability of plugins/modifications.) I'm loving what's implemented here so far, and the themes here are really gorgeous. Colors that are less likely used for webpage designs are used here.

Key point taken. :) Now that you brought up the cache thing, I did had some issues where users on my old site couldn't see new CSS changes, so I made a random URL parameter which helped the situation, eventually, I decided to just manually rename files.

Turning off cache... funny you should say that.
Opps, I meant to say "Webmasters asks users to clear out cache", not turn off. :^^;: Happens really often I see people being asked to do that. I turn off to avoid experiencing any problems/miss-out on anything new. Yes, that is silly having to tell users of your website to do that.

we generally don't because we have a system that pushes a different 'filename' to the browser so it won't be cached.
I like this. I am working on a project that could use a feature like this.

Interesting indeed. Lol, when I started using computers, I never messed with settings. Mostly because I did not know how to. I've worked on many computers used by non-tech savvy people and those with Firefox browser installed never did any of the above. It's a good thing for websites I've developed, I never relied on javascript and "fake it using images with CSS" tricks.

I've used three of those check boxes before, but always knew to change things back. Legitimately, I had a really bad connection and wasn't all too interested to see pretty pictures.

Override automatic cache management
I learned what this is about. A lot of webpage authors would teach how to get rid of cache... Instead of clearing cache every time a webpage would not load the way I expect them to, why not just permanently disable it? I then disable this to always get fresh content. This shouldn't be as harmful to do than it would've years ago. I do not know the ratio for people around the world who has good connection opposed to bad connection. Mines below average. For this to be brought up, I would imagine a good chunk of 98% of people has horrible connection.

Turning off ssl & tls
To find someone who would actually do this wouldn't surprise me, I've seen a lot of dumb stuff people do with their computer. I have yet to witness this. To be fair, most people wouldn't touch this.

Other software / Re: SM.org compromised

2. Kindred has the issue exactly correct with respect to password changing. I still believe that changing them even yearly isn't necessarily ideal, however I can see the logic of this.
I agree, because it's a bit much for me to think of something that I can remember. Running out of materials here that are unique and easy to remember, as well as being convenient.

3. I also believe it would be wise for both SMF and Wedge (and anyone else, for that matter) to adopt a system whereby a user's password can be expired and prompting a user to change it. Of course this does nothing for users who don't log in any more, perhaps something else needs to be considered for that situation.
Would the passwords be changed automatically and then an email is sent? Or would the user who wishes to login will just use their password, and then get a notification (along with email) prompting them to change password?

Even in html source.

My signature does not appear regardless of which section of the forum I'm in, my personal settings for Look and Layout, skin I'm using and browser.

Screen of my bug report topic. My signature doesn't appear. Same for anyone else.

As pictured.

The problem appears in all web browsers that I've tested on:

Google Chrome 28.0.1500.95.
Firefox 22.0
Opera 12.16
Internet Explorer 11. (Windows 8.1 ~ Virtualbox)

I saw that too.

Stackexchange/stackoverflow is the worst site ever.  I can't believe it's as big as it is.
Why exactly? I like consulting that website for good practices for doing some codes. I do not start at their homepage, but find a topic of common questions with answers from google search result.

What do you mean 'should be done'?
The small details about how we shouldn't need to modify files, change write permissions, etc. The nifty hooks.

The way I've done it is always xml compliant. Not "always" good enough to keep a smile on validator.w3.org's face. So I thought of using that with Tidy (which appears to be great, seems too much just for that bbcode feature.) It's not available immediately when I install php 5.4 on my Linuxmint distro based on Ubuntu. So that worried me. I do not like how most bbcode parsers do not allow you to nest as deep as you like. There are 3rd party php codes/plugins that does a great job at that, and even with sanitizing.. Just a little bit iffy on using those and wanted a much cleaner approach (And then there is licensing to be concerned of for some.)

I'm well aware of how plugins should be done in wedge. :) But it's not out yet ;)

Speaking of BBcodes, many things I don't like about trying to make a parser out of it, I wonder if wedge will be using something similar to  DOMDocument. That's like the sanest example I can think of for doing BBcodes.

There is also another way using string search, left-to-right; finding if an end-tag occurs or not, and then adding end tag.

I had one forum using MyBB. I actually like the software. I like the ability to just drop in a file, enable the plugin in mybb. I created 1 simple plugin that hides IP addresses. I can't remember why I didn't used MyBB. I was advised to stay away from phpBB3 :(

EDIT. I meant to say "why I didn't used SMF".
