HELL YEAH!

Notably, banning is broken currently, not to mention the package manager is currently in a fun state of limbo.That's the thing in my experience. People see "when it's ready" and continue to keep asking, because it's just some fluff placeholder in lieu of a real answer, as sm.org demonstrated so admirably, and even in this very thread - as the next question was 'can I have a straight answer?' - because "when it's ready" is not a straight answer.

To be fair, neither is "when it's not broken and is usable enough" but it's straighter than "when it's ready".

This calls for a new FAQ post. :p

*shrug* People will still ask, we'll still give them the same answer.

Heck, people didn't even read the big warning in Aeva's installer/download page/mod thread, why should they read a post that by definition has a filter on it that implicitly filters out most people?[1]

1.	Seriously, that's what I'm beginning to see the word FAQ as: a filter for anyone who isn't more intelligent than average that says "You don't want to read me, I'm boring." Or a filter that says "Nah, what I have to say doesn't apply to YOU, you're more special than everyone else."

there is a big difference between "when its ready" and something like "its ready but has a lot of bugs so we wont give it to you unless we fix them and we are not sure when that will be"

I finished most of what I wanted to do, mostly in the 'minor' features. I'd like to go gold with AeMe used in avatars & attachments, as well as support for blogs, topic privacy and threading. These are likely to be my next goals for 1.0. As far as alpha is concerned, the thing is -- we have to release the software in a state that is working correctly, even though we'll be halfway through on some implementations. It's not exactly easy to do.

...Or we could just way for a few extra months to release an alpha. I don't know.

Regardless of what we do --- the first online demo is coming this month. And possibly, we'll upgrade the Wedge.org site to use Wedge as well. Although I think that one depends on the aeme+avatar implementation to be done first.

Do you have a test team? i mean except you and Arantor, is there anyone else that runs wedge in any form it is till now , reporting bugs and all that ?

All of the Consultants have read access to Wedge. They are not forced to actually test it, though... It's just provided as a convenience for them. We don't have any 'proper' testers for now. live627 and a couple others do make sure to test it for last-minute problems!

Given how fast we change the code, any test results have a decent chance of being out of date.

Depends on what you're looking at testing, of course... If you test for the PM system, you'll find it hasn't been changed in a while. And that the PM template has been broken for just as many months :P

Yes, I guess that's true. Though the code has changed fairly heavily over the last few months, especially lately with the layering/block changes.

are you planning to give the project for a ride to beta testers before it goes public ?
will you convert this forum to wedge when is stable enough so we can criticise its features ?  :P

Way to go, assuming that it will need criticism instead of encouragement. The real irony, of course, being that a decent amount of what's changed is under the hood, rather than user visible, and of what else there is, all the new admin panel stuff is still hidden to most users...

Pete, please don't understimate the amount of eye-candy I put into Wedge... It's precisely going to help with the 'wow' effect :P

BTW, earlier today I updated the FAQ about the authors. I cleared up what Pete and I were specializing in (hopefully got the point right for Pete :^^;:), and generally expanded the post.

I could even convert it today, but (1) we'd lose many features, most aren't interesting but we lose the though system, custom profiles, blogs, etc. (2) still the problem with avatars and attachments...

So, honestly, I think we'll share the demo link in a week or two, or whatever, then we'll release a private alpha for a few days, and then to the public.

The thought system is a pretty big deal. Custom profiles, not so much. Losing the blogs would be pretty bad though.
