Could be misunderstood.... XD

Where can you download it? You can't, yet.

"for your SMF 2.0"... It's not a mod for SMF, it's ultimately a replacement.

Perhaps "RTFF" would have been a good reply

You won't get one because we don't have one.

I mean, we could give you a version to play with today but it'd be very broken in a variety of interesting ways.

/mehas done 'build to a given date' in the past, nearly burned out because of it on more than one occasion.

I'm sure the "when it's ready?" defines itself enough with only 3 words. :p
No need for a eyesore blog. :p

HELL YEAH!

Notably, banning is broken currently, not to mention the package manager is currently in a fun state of limbo.

That's the thing in my experience. People see "when it's ready" and continue to keep asking, because it's just some fluff placeholder in lieu of a real answer, as sm.org demonstrated so admirably, and even in this very thread - as the next question was 'can I have a straight answer?' - because "when it's ready" is not a straight answer.

To be fair, neither is "when it's not broken and is usable enough" but it's straighter than "when it's ready".

This calls for a new FAQ post. :p
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Arantor on September 12th, 2011, 10:14 AM
*shrug* People will still ask, we'll still give them the same answer.

Heck, people didn't even read the big warning in Aeva's installer/download page/mod thread, why should they read a post that by definition has a filter on it that implicitly filters out most people?[1]
 1. Seriously, that's what I'm beginning to see the word FAQ as: a filter for anyone who isn't more intelligent than average that says "You don't want to read me, I'm boring." Or a filter that says "Nah, what I have to say doesn't apply to YOU, you're more special than everyone else."

there is a big difference between "when its ready" and something like "its ready but has a lot of bugs so we wont give it to you unless we fix them and we are not sure when that will be"

i hope you can understand the difference
also to realize that you havent answered to your pal,, i am not your pal,, i dont know you..who are you?

The code I'm responsible for is not broken, AFAIK... :P
I finished most of what I wanted to do, mostly in the 'minor' features. I'd like to go gold with AeMe used in avatars & attachments, as well as support for blogs, topic privacy and threading. These are likely to be my next goals for 1.0. As far as alpha is concerned, the thing is -- we have to release the software in a state that is working correctly, even though we'll be halfway through on some implementations. It's not exactly easy to do.

...Or we could just way for a few extra months to release an alpha. I don't know.

Regardless of what we do --- the first online demo is coming this month. And possibly, we'll upgrade the Wedge.org site to use Wedge as well. Although I think that one depends on the aeme+avatar implementation to be done first.

Do you have a test team? i mean except you and Arantor, is there anyone else that runs wedge in any form it is till now , reporting bugs and all that ?
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Nao on September 12th, 2011, 04:38 PM
All of the Consultants have read access to Wedge. They are not forced to actually test it, though... It's just provided as a convenience for them. We don't have any 'proper' testers for now. live627 and a couple others do make sure to test it for last-minute problems!

Given how fast we change the code, any test results have a decent chance of being out of date.

Depends on what you're looking at testing, of course... If you test for the PM system, you'll find it hasn't been changed in a while. And that the PM template has been broken for just as many months :P
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Arantor on September 12th, 2011, 05:57 PM
Yes, I guess that's true. Though the code has changed fairly heavily over the last few months, especially lately with the layering/block changes.

are you planning to give the project for a ride to beta testers before it goes public ?
will you convert this forum to wedge when is stable enough so we can criticise its features ?  :P
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Arantor on September 12th, 2011, 09:57 PM
Way to go, assuming that it will need criticism instead of encouragement. The real irony, of course, being that a decent amount of what's changed is under the hood, rather than user visible, and of what else there is, all the new admin panel stuff is still hidden to most users...

Pete, please don't understimate the amount of eye-candy I put into Wedge... It's precisely going to help with the 'wow' effect :P

BTW, earlier today I updated the FAQ about the authors. I cleared up what Pete and I were specializing in (hopefully got the point right for Pete :^^;:), and generally expanded the post.

Yes. At least a couple of weeks...

As for the demo, you already all have the link to it -- those who didn't ask for it probably just aren't too interested ;)

Yes.
I could even convert it today, but (1) we'd lose many features, most aren't interesting but we lose the though system, custom profiles, blogs, etc. (2) still the problem with avatars and attachments...

So, honestly, I think we'll share the demo link in a week or two, or whatever, then we'll release a private alpha for a few days, and then to the public.

The thought system is a pretty big deal. Custom profiles, not so much. Losing the blogs would be pretty bad though.

Post by: Nao on September 12th, 2011, 11:22 PM
I'll rewrite thoughts for Wedge but if I do the conversion these days, I'll have to reuse my current code which isn't too solid... :P
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Norodo on September 12th, 2011, 11:29 PM
That said, you don't really need to migrate the current ones to the new one, seeing as they are fairly "short-lived" ideas.

Oh... If only for my archaeologist side, I'd like to retain all thoughts, yes. It's not like they take much space... ;)

I know that feel. It's my main problem when switching to Wedge actually (something I anticipate definitely doing with my forum after a while.) Converting from MyBB to SMF and then to Wedge... One can pray but my gut feeling tells me that operation will fuck up more than a few things.

Then again, being hopeful never hurt. ^^
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Nao on September 13th, 2011, 12:25 AM
The good thing is that you can compare both installs, then report any bugs or missing imports, and then redo the import ;)

Yeeeah... Maybe not. :P

But I will of course report anything I -do- find.

At some points it feels like it would be a good idea to wipe everything, then you remember that it is indeed a very bad idea to wipe everything.

This specific board has gone from SMF to IPB to SMF to MyBB. Now back to SMF and then Wedge? It'll be an interesting game of "telephone"
Title: Re: New One
Post by: Arantor on September 13th, 2011, 12:35 AM
Well, you *can* do that, but I can understand the reluctance. Mind you, the whole idea is to be able to run them side by side to see which you're happier with...
