XenForo lawsuit
« on November 6th, 2012, 04:35 AM »
Yup, vBulletin is STILL in the process of suing XenForo, and I mention this because today was supposed to be a big day - the day when the motion to dismiss was heard in the court and subsequently denied, so vBulletin's owner and XenForo are going to go to court in January.

Combined with how bad vB 5 is turning out to be, you'd think more groups would try and take advantage of this situation...

How bad is it? I'm not following forum news in general(only Wedge) :)

The only news related to IB that I read is the fiasco between IB and WikiTravel

Nao: Groups like us. With this flounder of two of the three big paid systems, you'd think phpBB, MyBB, SMF etc. would step up their game as they stand to clean up.

0x: Apart from the list of 50-odd features removed from vB4, instances of needing 100 queries per page, having a fat lot of bloat per page (one example suggested that the content : page code ration was something like 8% of the page code was actual content... I could go on but it's shaping up to be a trainwreck.

If they want to take advantage, they'll have to change their model to a commercial one, because so many IPB/vB/XF users are pretty adamant that free software is shit...

That's the thing, with the way things are going, people *are* looking elsewhere, and not just at IPB.

Do you see many ex-paying people flock to SMF..?

I do see ex paying people coming to SMF, but the biggest influx was when vB 4 first came out and it was a wreck. Most of the people that were going to already did. But when vB 5 emerges, I imagine we'll see an influx again - all the free packages benefited, though I'd note that IPB has also been offering a discount code to people coming from vB 5.

Lulz...
Can't they offer discount codes to people who used to be fans of their free version instead? ;)

Lost? Oh dear, no.

The short version is that XenForo asked the court to throw the case out because they feel there's no case to answer, the judge said no, it's going to a full trial, and the date for that trial - IB lawyers vs XenForo - will be in January sometime.

If I'm following what they're saying at forumcomplaints... Apparently, XenForo is dead or at least dying. Their devs left the project, etc...
