You get the following when your new password is too short..

Your password must be at least %1$d characters long..
Nothing dramatic, just a visual anomaly, changing the password still works.
Every program has at least one bug and can be shortened by at least one instruction -- from which, by induction, one can deduce that every program can be reduced to a single instruction that doesn't work.
