Possible Features For Integration
« on June 24th, 2011, 01:23 PM »
I have been using SMF for over 6 years now and just about to upgrade 2RC4 to 2Gold when I came across this fork whilst looking for an updated AEVA

I agree that 2 took to long to come along with a few other mods. You have a great vision here and I hope it works out great because having read over the last 9 months the turmoil's at SMF.

I would to suggest these enhancements and features to be considered for integration as core components.

1) In any text input areas use the standard editor as used in normal posts like what I am using now.
2) In the normal posting editor have 2 URL buttons. One as for using normal URL bbcode but also a URL popup where one can input a url and the title (just like the old SMF V1 URL POPup mod)
2a) if no URL popup (as in #2) then consider the ability like phpbb does of grabbing the url page title to give the url a description.
3) Have AEVA (1.4w or whatever) built in as core media gallery which can be disabled in user wants other add-on
4) Have a simple download system built in as core to manage file downloads or AEVA media downloads
5) Get a portal system either built in as core ( a simple system to allow custom pages to be created and custom blocks - eg Simple Portal )or a portal team onboard for when Wedge goes gold.

I think having a forum with built in core media handling, download handling and also Custom portal pages will certainly set Wedge apart from SMF, as SMF is just a forum system with Mods and having to reply on mods to update for each release can be difficult)

Not *any* text areas. There are a number of very important concerns, not least security when dealing with the full editor. That said, quick reply now features the full editor if you want it to do so.

We've implemented it so that there is only one button, but that one button does the popup.

Fairly sure we'd already said that Aeva 2.10 was built in and going to be deeper integrated.

This is not something we're interested in because other than what Aeva provides for. It's actually not that useful for most sites - while Aeva's facilities are useful on a lot more sites (especially as it's going to be replacing the attachments system)

There is already some support in the core for this, plus a portal is in development.

We will not extend the features any further than this at this time, especially a download system - it's just not necessary for so many sites.

It's great what you have said.

Glad there is a portal in development. TP and SP are what makes a good forum into a good site as people want additional custom pages to add detail and stuff.

What I meant about text area's was text area's where an editor is used as TP used to come with FCKeditor etc and this confused me and others as the editor interface was different depending on what you were creating.

Aeva can be used as a download system btw.

Overall go read the feature list boards ;)
Indeed it can. I did it myself at one point ;) But yes, the feature list boards should definitely be the port of call. Must remember that a bit more :P
