And to think that everything is easy said than done, then you are sadly mistaken. You have no idea what Arantor and Nao have been going though. Some of us have been here with them nearly 8 months and you have been with us for...what 1 week? And because:
Quote
Since you came here, you have taken every opportunity to tell us how you think it should be done, and flat out demanded access to the code, and proceeded to demand to be treated as an equal partner, except that that isn't how it works.

I would have been more than happy to piss yall off 8 months ago if i had known this exsisted. Lol ive read several thousand posts of arantors on sm.org, and i also read almost all of the aeva media thread there. Ive read many posts of several of the others here. With that said, i did not come here to run shit. I came here to learn and be invovled. But the very complaints that yall have for smf exsist here just as badly but with fewer people. To smf, yall are stupid annoyances. Where im a stupid annouance to yall. One does not have to be present for 5 years or 5 minutes, to be treated decent. It wouldnt have mattered if i had groveled at your feet or approached as an equal. Lets assume the brash and ballsy amarican is talking trash. That way we can ignore everything he says, as bull shit. Yall are not the worlds greatest programmers, and yall do not have to right to tell me to screw off, which you do so vividly. I spose im stupid at programming cause i chose to play ball with my son on my last days off, or maybe i talk to big for fragile hearts. I know exactly what it takes to do what i suggest, that why i havent done it yet. I fucked up and had a kid instead if give birth to the next good line of code. So sue me. Id love to know how yall can work on wedge full time. How the hell do you pay your rent/electricity/car. you dont get noticed in this world by sitting around waiting for something to happen. You get up and do it. I approached yall in the way that i did to say, im here. I have things to say. Valuable things. I cant and wont kiss your ass. You just aint that special to me. There is more to my words than what your seeing. Are you going to care enough to look? Get pissed, ive been pissed for a decade. Youll see the value, soon enough.

Use proper paragraphs if you want to be read. This isn't paper, it's a computer screen that fatigues your eyes much more than paper.

I made absolutely no assumptions about you. You want to keep acting like an idiot, go right ahead, because you've completely missed the point of everything I had to say, and I have no time to cater to people who won't look past their own nose.

OK, so let me spell it out for you, and I'll be sure to use small words so you can understand me.

We started Wedge because we had a vision, of what we wanted to see. Everything that's happened since you came here began to taint that vision.

We weren't building Wedge for you. We were building it for us, plain and simple, it just so happened that what we wanted mostly coincided with what everyone else wanted.

If you thought otherwise, I'm sorry you didn't bother to read what was put in front of you.

Why do you think I haven't made a commit to Wedge in the last month, because I have other responsibilities as well...

Though, I do have some money from an inheritance that allows me to spend some time doing what I love rather than doing what I need to.

No-one was asking you to. You came to a place that was quite clearly a benevolent dictatorship and expected to be treated like an equal dictator. Sorry.

And you were, you were the one who proceeded to act unpleasantly by coming into our house and telling us how we should run it.

I have better things to do than argue with you, I try to see the good in people, and when you first turned up on sm.org, with grand ideas, I was impressed. I thought you were quietly mad, because you had bigger ideas than anyone else I'd seen with SMF attempt, and I knew SMF's limitations would eventually have to be overcome, but I quietly had a lot of respect for the balls you had. The more you posted on sm.org, and later here, the more I realised that your ego is carrying you, that you really don't have the skills to carry out your grand plan.

I am well aware of my limitations as a programmer. Your ego blinds you from yours.

The bottom line: I will not be involved in a project with you, plain and simple. You have no respect for the community you're part of, that's obvious, as it's taken too much time to have to deal with you.

Have fun.

As for me... My reasons for working full time on Wedge are my own.
Limitations as a programmer? They're bound to experience, mostly. Logic has little room in what we do. It is not needed much to develop Wedge. What's needed is a lot of TIME and PATIENCE. The ability to jump back to one's feet when one's been spending days working on fixing a bug that turned out to be an easy one, only not seen from the right side. The desire to execute a vision and accept that if even half of that vision is accomplished, it's good enough because at least one showed the way and perfection doesn't exist anyway. One needs to accept that they can't do everything alone, either. Even if you do 80% of the work on a project[1], be thankful for those who bring the remaining 20%, because your work would probably be worthless it if it wasn't for them. Learn to discuss things with others, know when to make your point and when to listen, know who's in charge and how to convince them that your vision is worth it.

Things like that... Little things where logic has no room, really. Oh, I would so like to be able to say that my little grey cells made me what I am today. Sure, I'm smart and Pete is the same. But most developers are smart, otherwise they'd be more interested in watching Dancing with the Stars on TV. What makes the difference is patience, understanding and a burning desire to achieve your goal.
 1. Thankfully, not the case here... :P

OK feel free to slap my hand hard here if I'm out of line..  :o

What I would like to see is a Alpha version completed with the things that Nao and Arantor have already thought of putting into Wedge.

Suggestions should always be welcomed as it gives a plan for the future.

If they tried to implement all the wizz bang things all the people want into the first release we would soon be in the same situation that smf is in, six years and still no gold, while other software has progressed way beyond smf.

Just my 2 phennings worth. I'm not a coder, I'm a Admin who has had to switch a few sites for customers to V-Bull because of the slow development of smf 2.

We cannot release an alpha version until SMF 2.0 goes gold.

I assumed that everyone including myself has known that forever.

This is the kind of answer I would have expected from the kiddies at smf forums, makes a statement that everyone here knows, and adds nothing to what I said.

I'm slapping you, not because you're out of line, but because you shouldn't ask questions, then insult people who answer you.

And Lorenzo told you the exact answer: you can't see an Alpha version because we can't release it.

We can, however, release a demo site at any point. The details are being discussed in private.

SMF isn't in that situation because of that... On the contrary. They're stuck because they're not implementing anything and they got bored. (Well, from what I could gather.)

They froze SMF2's feature set in late 2007. Everything after that was supposed to be focused on fixing bugs. Quite frankly, 3 years of bug fixing? That's ridiculous. Laziness on the SMF team's part. Everything they do seems to be about discouraging action. Look at this bug report -- easy fix, done in under an hour in Wedge. A week in, they still think it's a problem on Aaron's setup.

Eh, we announced Wedge back in November, not our fault if you can't trust us

My point was that I really didn't need to be reminded of that. Anyone who has read every post here knows that.  If I am incorrect in assuming that well........

My comment was aimed at bogging down the development with new ideas and waiting, and waiting till all the bugg's our out before we get a alpha. I am 100% committed to using this software in the future. I have spent (like others) over a year following the progress of a smf alternative, from Friends, to the flaming bird (with all the things that could not get agreed on with that) to what I felt was the best path. (the one you and Pete have taken)

Quite the contrary, I have full faith in both of you and others who are helping, believe me. I'm not in any rush, I just don't want to see the same thing repeated.

To any others here. I do apologize and I regret flying off the handle. I like Pete don't like someone telling me something that I already know. So I'l just go back to reading and stay quiet for a while.

Cheers.
