Features / Re: Culmination of Permissions Ruminations
« on June 4th, 2013, 06:06 AM »
The lovely thing with roles is you could ship with the normal user/moderator/admin (or if Arantor doe the CMS user/contributor/moderator/admin) and then those who deem it needed could add any other number of levels. Maybe have user/staff(think low lever moderators)/Supervisors(Think normal moderator)/Manager(Think admin light)/Owner/Admin. Yes I know kind of doable with groups and perms however roles ads a level of flexibility that can't be beat and witht he right UI may be even easier to use.

Bug reports / Re: display name vs username in pretty urls
« on June 3rd, 2013, 12:21 AM »
TBH I hardly ever have a different display name vs username. So it doesn't effect me personally. I guess a notice when signing up that your username is your permalink and can't be changed is in order. I have used the same usernames for close to 16 years so if people bruot force so be it, not much I can do to change it. Security through obscurity is not generally a valid practice.

I have thoughts however busy today so might have to wait till late or tomorrow. I will say I like the idea of moving to a groups -> roles -> permissions. Not only does it work as a good base for a forum it will be useful for general content management and could be used to re-tweak media.

As long as the data is their does it really matter if we have to reset perms. Seems if one is moving to a new platform people should be expected to have to reset settings.

Not bloat at all Heck the merge would be useful on wedge.org for those who forgot password setup account and prove to whom ever the other is their account. merge-o-presto problem solved. Micro features are what sets most tools apart. At the end of the day the best tool for the job is the one with the right set of options.

« on May 30th, 2013, 01:51 AM »@Boko: You can always contribute them now if you like... that's why we deliberately run Wedge either directly from SVN or only a day or so's revisions behind, so that as it evolves, we can show you and involve you in the process of doing so.
