The Pub / Two Visions More Compatible Than Thought
« on September 5th, 2013, 10:12 PM »
Before I begin Yes I know @Nao & @Arantor are not collaborating at this time or likely in the future. However I wanted to point out their visions are not as divergent as one would think.

Content Management & Social Media
Two Visions More Compatible Than Thought
Forums have a great many fundamental features that are used for most all types of sites. Some of those systems include: Authentication, Theme/Skin Engine, Database Connection. Wedge has a few more useful pieces which include but not limited to: Hooks, Thoughts, Private Messages, Media Management, & Notifications. Great foundation laid out here for almost any type of site and with a little thought and creativity (did someone say Art?) it can meet most niche needs.

First question: What is Content Management? At its most basic it is a way to manage content. Duh, I know. If you don't have to worry about authentication, theming, and database management it lets you focus on the meat of development the management system. Awesome part with wedge? With a little work (okay maybe lots of work to start)you don't have to worry about comments (hello forum) or media management. Neat bonus two? Forum could have three modes. Comment mode is a disabled forums but still powers comments on content and forum mode is a fully fledged forum, and then plain ol disabled.

Mix in some permissions and a main blog and user blogs becomes super powerful fool.

Anyway I am digressing:

Second question: What is social media? In this context it is a website with varying levels of interaction between humans facilitated by software. Hello: Thoughts, PMs, user forums/galleries/blogs, profiles, & so much more.

Hook thoughts, PMs, & Gallery to a article/page and bam you have a facebook Page. Clever use of permissions and users can set up pages. Social Site, meet Content Management. They both think it's nice to meet.

Third Question: What rolls out in 1.0? Well that depends but I would guess Wedge.com with attachments using Media Management, Blog support, and polishing of current feature set. Maybe move Infinite Scroll, floating user info, and new sidebar to a sub-skin as an example of the flexibility of the new skin system. Maybe start the move to a more modular system.

Basic Conclusion? Content management complements social, and social complements content management but is not required.

Archived fixes / Can't Post Thoughts on IE10 on Win8
« on June 17th, 2013, 06:06 AM »
When I hit submit or enter my thought does not go through and all other thoughts disappear until page reload. See attached. There may also be an issue with file uploads on posts and IE10 however I am not certain.

Edited to add: Wish I could reorder the attachments :P

The Pub / Thoughts one wireless theme/skin
« on April 26th, 2013, 06:43 AM »
So I have been thinking about the wireless skin today. I like the over all basic feel of it. However I was thinking it could be striped down a bit more.

Front Page
Get rig of Users Today & Forum statistics. Users Online could be streamlined to show the users, no counts (above) no most online today or ever[1]..

Thoughts could be trimmed to late five as the thoughts page is more useful these days (being able to like, and reply yada yada.)

Footer
"Page created in 0.05 seconds with 22 queries." could be dropped

Wedge logo could be dropped

Overall copyright could be shortened to:
© Wedgeward

New Topic Page
Editor could be simplified:
Drop Smilies
Limit BBC buttons to B, I, U, Inset Link, Insert Image
Drop: shortcuts: hit Shift + Enter to use smart tag closer, Ctrl + B (bold), Ctrl + I (italics), Ctrl + U (underline), Alt + D (save draft), Alt + P (preview) or Alt + S to submit.

Other
Remove duplicate breadcrumb/link tree
Remove Previus & Next topic links
Remove "Send this Topic"[2]
Either don't show signatures or reduce it to a single instance per page and or thread.
Feed links could be dropped.

I am sure I didn't think of stuff. Please note this is just general feedback, not demanding or otherwise trying to be rude. I was just thinking on tablets while on wifi I use the default theme and not wireless however on phones I do switch to wireless and every byte saved is a penny not given to the telco's plus it loads faster.
 1. These stats could be moved to the main stats page on all themes/skins
 2. Heck just get rid of this feature all together. I am sure some plugin will allow social sharing. Or god forbid someone has to copy and paste a url :/

Site shows below error when I visit from my iPad in Safari or Chrome. I will have to download Opera to see if I get the error there as well.

Fatal error: Unsupported operand types in /.../.../.../.../.../Sources/Load.php on line 1633

So I was given an iPad 2 a couple of months ago and I noticed some websites forms where smart, if it was email the @, -, and _ where on the main keyboard instead of having to goto the numbers or special characters parts of the keyboard.

I was wondering is there a standard all smart devices use for that feature or is it something that can only be targeted to Apples Safari Browser?

The Pub / Front Page – Something other than a board listing.
« on May 21st, 2011, 11:17 PM »
I know you all have mentioned there is a possibility for a portal in the future. So I have been thinking, is there a need for a portal?

Anyway I was thinking, and I don’t know how simple this would be. How about a configurable Front Page, this front page could grow into a content management system over time, but could start simple.

It would start out as a simple configure page with a few options:
  • Normal Board listing and no Front Page
  • Blog board set to default (Shows the blogs from the board set)
  • FAQ Board set to default (see above)
  • Board set to default (see above)
  • Gallery set to default (see above)
  • Template Override (For advanced users)
The Template Override would allow advanced users to show whatever they want on their front page. Be it a set of blocks, pulled content, what have you.

Long term this could lead to a pages module/add-on for static content, an articles module/add-on for more dynamic content (could have different article types with different fields ect ect.)

Off-topic / Introduction
« on April 2nd, 2011, 03:16 AM »
Hey all,

I don't see a thread for introductions so I thought I would start one (delete/merge if search failed me.)

Name is Robert and have followed wedge (didn't know its name until the other day) for awhile now.

I used to use SMF (still have SMF on one forum but I don't manage it really) however I am mainly using an Application framework with a forum module for my forum needs. Though I am always looking for any projects that come up.

I am more of a project manager then a coder though I dabble when I am feeling confident.

Anyway I look forward to following and using wedge when it becomes available.
