Plugins / Re: Plugin development

Just an FYI for anyone looking to centralise whilst still being distributed:-Quote (highlighting added by me) :eheh:
Bitbucket now supports Git repos in addition to Mercurial! All the features you expect from Bitbucket, with unlimited private repos for free.

Just throwing this into the pot for you Arantor, but have you considered BitBucket/Mercurial?
Bitbucket don't mind you having private repositories (up to five, if memory serves) on their free accounts, and I personally find the Mercurial workflow really easy and obvious (where Git confused the hell outta me).
Just a thought...

See, now that's (mostly) familiar. You can see our colour scheme in the screeny I posted (even though all my tickets are closed).

RT is lovely and all (very pretty interface, for instance) but for complex development projects I don't think it would work too well (where MantisBT shines).
Mantis has a few rough edges, but it's nothing we haven't been able to code around ourselves... Makes upgrading fun though :eheh:

I knew I'd seen that layout before... ;)
We use MantisBT at work (for the software we write), but I've been playing with RT recently for a personal project, so I couldn't be sure.

Benevolent dictatorships are alive and well, and most definitely have a place in the world of software production. Sometimes, the buck has to stop and start outside of committee, and a number of software projects could benefit from such (no names, no pack drill...)

Off-topic / Re: Baidu bloody loves me.

Maybe they're getting better; I told Baidu to bugger off in my robots.txt and (so far) they've not returned (finger crossed, touch wood...)

I really like this latest one Nao, and with the more transparent font (as per the page head) if I'm honest.

« on September 9th, 2011, 03:48 PM »Re: pimp, actually the French 'official' word for pimp is proxénète, and the common word is maquereau (mackerel -- a pimp woman used to be called 'mère maquerelle' a century ago), often shortened to just 'mac'. 'Maquereau' is pronounced exactly the same as 'macro' (the 'r' is pronounced, of course.)

I am, in all seriousness, looking forward to paying for this... Even with the shonkey screenies you're posting of it in pre-alpha state. :eheh:

Plugins / Re: Mods, support and so on
« on September 6th, 2011, 11:36 AM »- All under the wedge.org banner is my preferred option. Whether you make it mods.wedge.org or wedge.org/mods I leave as an exercise to the admins.
- Free/paid/whatever. Mod authors should make such decisions, not me as the end user. As for where the payment gateway fits into this, my preference would be wedge.org handles it, but having said that I like Snape's idea of the mod author deals with the payment gateway but it's all done from wedge.org (that sounds somewhat like how PayPal do it to me. You know you're talking to PayPal for the payment, but you start and end at the site you purchased from...)
- Either yes, they should be vetted prior to going public, or there needs to be community "vetting" - community rating and comments like the Android Marketplace has.
- I'm perfectly happy with an optional "board per mod" style of forum for support: if a mod author happens to use Github/BitBucket/whatever for their development and prefers to push their support over to that site, they should be able to link to that from the mod site here and not have a local resource to keep track of in addition.

Topic hijacking, but when you say "it doesn't have SimpleDesk (yet!)", are you intimating that there will (may?) eventually be an SD-alike for Wedge? Not a deal breaker or anything (it's not like we currently use SD), just interested for the future...

Very interesting thread. To borrow a vaguely literary reference, what's happening over there very much reminds me of "he who must not be named" (and the variations thereof) in that series of children's books by J.K Rowling, making them (the Team) the Minister: ...

+1 on all of those Pete.
(I installed a brand new 2.0 Gold yesterday to have a play, rather than my usual "take a copy of our live 1.1.X and upgrade"... the admin panel is a right CF, so you have my admiration for wanting to take it on.)
