Ten days to the real deal Eheh.
I take it you pre-ordered Skyrim? I'm taking a wait and see. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but I'd prefer to wait until they've released their 10 inevitable DLCs and fans have had a decent amount of time to fix the game with mods... I've never been able to stand a unmodded Bethesda game... :P

Makes sense. Just one of those "it'd be cool if" features... But now that you mention it that would be a lot of extra crap to keep track of..  :)

You guys are a hoot... Really!  :)

This may not be the best spot to post this, but I just had a idea about posts... So when you post your post count goes +1, the downside is that other people (and yourself) don't know what post count you were at when you posted. It might be useful to have a option to show overall post count and postcount to date of that post... Just a thought.

PM me if you want to add me for the PC.

I personally prefer getting notifications of some sort when I visit the site.

I host my own minecraft server and I use bukkit.org's server software for it. I love their forums! They seem to do a lot of stuff right and I really like how to notify you of responses. It is just a javascript dropdown list, showing just a link (and subject) to the first reply after your last post.

But for less visited/posted sites I don't mind having email as a option. The current SMF option of having one email sent a day with a summary is pretty nice. Can't recall if I could have it sent slightly more frequently though...

I'm not surprised to be honest... Most of the people I know who still use IE as their normal browser are not the brightest...  :)

When I first saw it. It made me wonder about SMF upper managements inability to retain those skillful enough to be core devs.
Maybe they need some management training?  :P
Couldn't resist...

Howdy everyone. So I came across Wedge (which BTW sounds like it'll be awesome!) because I was upgrading my SMF from 2.0RC2 to 2.0RC5. The only reason I decided to upgrade was because my forums are a admin approve only setup, but I don't want to discourage random people from joining if they found out about us. So I wanted to find a mod that put a field in registration on why you are joining. I found a mod, but it didn't work with RC2. So I upgraded, and decided to see if any of my other installed mods had updates. I use the youtubeBB mod and that linked to the new mod/website and then I saw the Fork this topic and totally agreed with your vision (SMF has gone exactly nowhere since I've started using it at the end of 2009). So here I am....

Little about myself. I run/manage a half dozen small websites. Mostly I just take exisiting solutions and customize them for the need. I'm not really a programmer, but I know my way around HTML, CSS and a bit of jQuery. I only have one site that uses SMF; its a gaming clanish site with only about a dozen regular users. So I don't do a whole lot with the site.

Anywho, this sounds like a great project and I would love to use it when you guys release it. Thanks for you work and initiative.

That makes sense. I'm not a real programmer, just do some scripting and basic web design, but I've always thought that the loop was a bit strange. I suppose it would make sense in a basic blog, but WP isn't a basic blog anymore...

SD is SimpleDesk, see simpledesk.net - it's a helpdesk system I worked on a lot last year and have been working on the last few weeks - once the new version is done, I'll be backseat again.

The thing is, the reason why WP is so open to plugins is a little because of its system but mostly because it's actually very simple: there's almost nothing to it. You have this notion of "The Loop" being this massive system that underpins it, and structurally, that's insane.
I believe I've actually heard of SimpleDesk before. I'll check it out again though.

So do you dislike the wordpress loop?  :)

Seeing as I'm not a developer my opinion probably doesn't matter too much. But I think it might help a bit so here goes. I would say get the backend stuff done for 1.0 because that will be easier on you and the users in the long run. Though I'm guessing a lot more work now. Just my two cents.

Oh, Chrome's version numbering is ridiculous.

I should note that I nearly called the next version of SD 1.1 even though it's about 10k lines bigger than 1.0... and 1.0 is barely 10k lines itself!
What is "SD"?

I like Wordpress to be honest. Maybe not the fastest or best, but for people who don't want to spend a lot of time managing or setting stuff up it is a pretty nice system. Plus lots of theme support and plugins too (despite WP not being so open to people making a few bucks doing so).
