I don't expect you to spend time on this Nao as I know you're busy! I'm basically thinking out loud here. Sorry if I'm off topic also.
Now is not the time for bug finding in Wedge, but since this also exists in SMF with Aeva I figured I need to explore this a bit further...

I'm trying to find a pattern...? Anyone?

In Aeva this problem happens (to me anyway) in:
Descriptions and comments on commercial server.
Descriptions but NOT comments on local server.

In Wedge this happens in:
Comments but NOT descriptions on commercial server.
Comments but NOT descriptions on local server.

Three different browsers same behaviour.

I've tried examining the settings in phpinfo but don't really know what to look for.

Didn't you say it was in item descriptions..? This one's a comment...
Hey you're right - didn't I notice that. It happens in both descriptions and comments. Maybe there is a php config setting that is affecting htmlspecialchars, or whatever is used in the editing box.

I just installed Wedge on the same server as my forum and Wedge does the same thing as AeMe in SMF:
Photo 1 - press edit = photo 2
Not sure what the difference is between my server and theirs, but I thought you may want to know about this :)

Same browser (Chrome) in all cases.

The bug in AeMe I mentioned in my other question, is when a user edits a photo description that contains line breaks, they all show up as <br> in the editing box and have to be deleted and re-entered. That's in version 1.4
Hmmmm... well this is curious: I installed SMF with Aeva on localhost and that problem doesn't exist. It happens in my live forum all the time.
I figured it was strange that Nao would have overlooked such an obvious fault.
This suggests there is a server setting on my commercial host that is causing it. What could this be?

Thanks MultiformeIngegno, I wasn't aware of that.
I guess some customers don't want to automatically upgrade because their sites might break.

Just got in touch with my host and this is what they said:
"Thank you for contacting us! We're able to install 5.3.21 PHP version for anyone of your domains. Just let us know domain names and we'll be glad to proceed with that."

It's not default and has to be enabled? Just for specific domains? Is this odd?

How was I supposed to know that...

It's easy to say "get a new host if they don't have 5.3" but that's not practical.
I've been with the same host for years, and I'm happy with them - just that they 'happen' to still have 5.2

Will Wedge not function properly on 5.2?
Is it still worth installing the alpha version?

I'm still investigating doing it the other way round: Gallery software with attached forum, but nothing stands out as being the obvious choice yet. I guess it's a case of installing multiple systems and playing around.
Pandos, sounds like I need to be careful with how many photos a particular system can handle then. Of course I have no idea how popular my new forum will be but I don't want to go down a dead-end road and have it stall because it's too full!
CMOBOSS, I know what you're saying and I enjoy studying code, but it's just that my family life has been suffering lately when I spend all day on the computer

Thanks Pandos

There's only one problem. I'd like to get started ASAP and there's no indication on a release date (notice I'm not asking for one :))

I read using a test version on a live site would not be recommended.

Off-topic / Opinion on my new site format? Trying keep it simple...

I'm planning a new forum and a lot of my members will come from Facebook groups where they're used to simplicity without all the usual forum options.
I'm going to have my theme and template super simple and easy to use.

The thing is, in Facebook groups, 90 percent post a photo and others comment on it, so it needs to be 'gallery based' rather than purely discussion based.

What is the best software combination to use? Of course I'd love to get hold of Wedge but that's obviously not an option at the moment.
I have experience with SMF and Aeva gallery but I'm a little scared of using Aeva since updates have ended and I know of at least one bug that can be annoying.

The other option is phpBB with Gallery attached (better or worse than SMF with Aeva?)

I'm aiming for one way to post: not forum in one section, and gallery in another.
I could make it forum based and people post photo attachments in the board, but when someone posts a photo it doesn't automatically add to the gallery (like Facebook does).
I could make it purely gallery based and hide the forum, but then a post can ONLY be started with a photo and not a question. Maybe possible to alter the format with a lot of work?

To top it off everyone has got used to the 'Like' system and neither forum seems to have a good MOD for that.

Any ideas on the best base I should use? Should I favour SMF because it may be easier to convert to Wedge later on?

Thanks for your reply.
I have a small SMF forum with Aeva, and I just stumbled on Wedge today after planning a new forum, so it was really exciting to hear of the possibility of something hugely better. Your work on this is much appreciated.
When I start my new forum there will be a lot of members coming from Facebook so a built in gallery and Like system are my top priorities. The features of Facebook has dictated what people expect these days... unfortunately.

Hi.
I'm not sure exactly where to post this but here goes:

What I'd like to suggest is, when somebody attaches a photo to a post, that it automatically adds to a gallery album (maybe one selected in admin as 'attached' to the board).

Maybe this has already been thought of?
