Tapatalk support?
« on September 18th, 2014, 05:24 AM »
Forum users are asking if I can provide Tapatalk support on my forum.  I am just posting it here for your consideration.

That's a piece of shit. Why would I provide support for spam software that keeps bugging me to install it when I'm just trying to read a lambda forum post accessed from google?

Wedge has responsive mode.

Best I could do is write my own android app and make it non disruptive... But I have neither the time nor the motivation.

Personally I think the mobile theme is more than sufficient (and preferable from a consistency point of view).

There's still a huge difference between Tapatalk and a responsive mobile theme. It's about integration.

I love the mobile theme (using it right now) but tapatalk has some nice features. You get notifications from the forum and its a bit faster (in my opinion). But there many things i dont like on tapatalk, it only provides access to the most core features. Implementing thoughts wouldnt be possible.
But still its a good thing, perhaps someone will create a plugin for it.

Also Tapatalk would need to implement support for wedge itself.

This is the one thing that's preventing me from migrating my forum to wedge. About ~80% of my users enter from tapatalk.

From my point of view, Tapatalk Inc should be responsable for developing the plugin. After all, they're making money out of it. Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon... :(

It's not a POV thing. It's the fundamental way Tapatalk is built: they add support for your software, and individual forum owners add their spam splash to their forum. The forum software author has no say in it, except "Tapatalk sucks! I don't frigging want a splash screen on a forum I'll just be spending 10 seconds on to check out a message!"
It's similar to websites that ask you to download their own app, or websites that launch a popup asking you what you thought about them, preventing you from reading them in the first place...

Totally agree with you, but still there is no alternative, and Tapatalk is widely used. On one day there will be a better solution but till then a nice feature would be missing.

I've been mailed last month by Tapatalk about why I wasn't using their tool anymore. I answered that I migrated to Wedge and that it would be great if they could make their software compatible and they answered me "Interesting. Do you have a contact there?".

Shall I give your email Nao or what would you prefer me to reply ? I understand that they must develop themselves the compatibility, of course, but would you be able and want to talk with them if they had questions ?

I'd be willing to help but only if they promise never to release any intrusive incentives such as a full page ad or an alert our whatever. A small banner at the top is okay. Seriously I tend to leave forums that have these splash screens asking me to install Tapatalk before I can even view a post... They're making money off this, not admins or users!

They don't require you to advertise. I'm currently using XenForo for my current board project; the official Tapatalk add-on has neat checkmarks for "disturb your users by offensively advertising Tapatalk if they're using a mobile device".

(Of course, the labels are different.)

Exactly, I'll not touch that piece of spam tool with a long pole.
