The Pub / Re: Database Backup, Restore and Repair
« on April 25th, 2012, 07:55 AM »
First up, Wedge doesn't have that feature. It's problems seemingly outweighed its benefits. That said, someone could create a plugin for this if they really wanted to. I have no idea who would, though...Quote SMF's db dumper attempts to elongate the timeout. It also didn't handle special characters..Quote The messages table has timestamps which could be used for this purpose. Also, other tables related to messages could join to get relevant times.
Other tables would have to be absolute.
Now I do, I think, understand why the backup could fail and if I understand correctly, it's all about maximum execution times. But that surely is down to bad design in the first place?
thus allowing for incremental backups
Other tables would have to be absolute.

Bloc, I can see your theme site is back up (http://www.blocweb.net/index.php?action=bwgallery).
- So, were you planning to restore it under ViennaBBS all along? Or, did you snap under the pressure of screwing users over?
- I had to pick out the blue letters in your verification question. Thankfully, I'm not color blind, but those who are will be trapped at the gate.
- Your breadcrumb trail didn't lead me too the message index. This could be by design, though, to force users to get to the threads through the themes area.

| 1. | For those who don't know, KC was always saying "I would use that!"" or "My friend would use this." in regards to some mod or something that piqued his interest. In the end, though, it doesn't really matter. Oh, sorry, got carried away by that song from Linkin Park. Anyway, he would wind up restarting his forum for whatever reason, and it's doubtful whether he ended up actually keeping those features  |

It all comes down to trust in your fellow man, which can easily get skewed and lost on the internet.

Ok then I'll double-check it once you commit it. Also, I fixed it so it works on my local copy, and I can post the diff if you'd like.

Need to add ob_start($call) to obExit in Subs-Template, right under where it loads the files. Then it'll work as expected :)

Star:AWstats is a log analiser and nothing more. The sourceforge page says it in the second sentence! Meaning it does no work when you're not using it. All it does is read from the server. And what better way to track usage than by reading what the server itself provides!

All subscribers from blocweb.net are now at a loss, out some dollars (from 40 to 70 IIRC), and are angry at what basically amounts to fraud, or the denial of paid services and/or goods.

This is a very interesting take on user validation. It is a jQuery plugin that generates a random string and puts it into a hidden input. The widget looks and behaves much like the iPod control to unlock it right after you turn it on. Once you slide it to the right, it "unlocks" the form for submission. Once that happens, a session variable is injected and the input element is emptied.
There is one fundamental flaw with it, though: if javascript is disabled, you're out of luck. They even admit it! However, they also note that the server-side validation will then fail, unconditionally.
However half-assed this implementation is, it seems like a nice idea.
