The Pub / Re: Infinite Scroll
« on June 7th, 2013, 05:06 PM »
looks like the additional pages are not marked as read currently, the new text [not image :P ] appears on the message index if the following page was not "clicked" or something like that, i was sent to a message i had already read in this thread but i had not clicked on page 3 but read that message already with the infinite scroll.

i would assume not often would the username change but it may change, the display name may change more often.

also just wondering if a user gets their username changed by admin will the pretty url be updated?
It should.
so then for SEO all the links to that profile just got killed. good thing i dont use pretty urls, they sound like a headache anyway.

i can see the reasons for SEO, maybe if pretty urls are in use disable the users ability to change the display name? although that could cause more support issues in the long run.

Bug reports / display name vs username in pretty urls
« on June 2nd, 2013, 12:46 PM »
looks like the pretty urls uses the username and not the display name in the pretty urls
this user looks to have changed their display name http://wedge.org/profile/Road+Rash/

for some people they may not want their username visible anywhere but it is visible for the link to their profile.

there was a time smf users were recommended to have a different display name from their username due to the issues with trying to brute force login.

if there were a shoutbox below the menu for example, that would make the page longer and possibly allow the moderator to push the warning out of sight. but then those that actually know anything could just write up a custom css to hide that block and not see the message in the first place.

well if they increase the size of the reply box then they could? :P or if they have other mods that show up on that page to increase the page size.

and it is possible to try to scroll right pass the message so it does not appear on the screen anyway right?

a lot of smf admin do not know what they should because they dont think to ask and smf developers dont always consider all server configs before features like the db backup are added. sure a warning could be added but because the feature exists more admin will use it anyway.

it is like most admin will complain if an image is missing but not know how to try to figure out what the image is or where it should be. their browser can help out a lot and could save a lot of time/effort.

to a point i think it is sad that this is required to try to stop people from editing others posts when they dont mean to.

it is an RPG forum, so it would be unlike most normal forums most people would ever have interest in.

then you could try doing it for them :P at one point i had gotten a diff from live627 [was done by him not directly from him i believe], i think the diff ending up being several thousand lines long and i am not sure if that included any files added by mods. [maybe it was 4k lines? i dont recall off hand]
