Off-topic / Been away for a while..
« on September 19th, 2011, 01:42 AM »
Well I haven't been here in what seems a very loooong time.
Had a heart attack then a quad bypass. so I have been doing cardio rehab since getting out of the hospital.
If that wasn't bad enough my old Dell Optiplex server decided to take a crap. I never upgraded to Win 7 on my user machine so I decided that a total revamp was in store.
But I'm back and see I have way to many posts to read, so I'm going to be real selective and skim over many topics. Biggest loss is time. I don't have nearly as much free time to read and post.
But I'm feeling like I'm 20 years younger. :-)
Edit: I see that my logo is also out of date.

The Pub / Re: Jump box and its stupid Go button
« on August 15th, 2011, 03:47 PM »They serve two totally different purposes and I really don't see us removing either.
The Jump To facility lets you move to a different board to the one you're in, not necessarily higher up the chain, while the linktree lets you move higher up the chain specifically - and I do a lot of navigating by the lower linktree.
I once installed a theme that didn't have the linktree at the bottom, and had 100 PM's in 4 hours. Never realized how many people actually used it.

Off-topic / Re: Dial Up BBS
« on August 4th, 2011, 01:55 AM »Do you use it as a paper weight or a hammer? :)
I also have a table top that I layer out a bunch of 386 and 486 chips IDE controller cards, memory chips, etc. in 1 inch thick layer of epoxy.
Still have a copy of DrDOS v5 in shrink wrap, never opened it.

Yeah, did the BBS, Fido thing in the late 80's early 90's. Still have my 14.4 external somewhere.
Good times.

The Pub / [Archive] Re: Logo Madness
« on July 7th, 2011, 08:15 PM »Well I started when I was 16 and I'm going to be 55 in 2 weeks time. So I'm not old at all (I need to admit I fart a lot though) :eheh:
I stopped coding when I retired @50 to do some traveling in Asia where I'd never been. That was nineteen years ago. Old is a attitude thing, though some are all burned up by the the time they reach your age, that they so feel "old". I usually don't talk about age much, and this will no doubt be my last mention of it.

Either a bunch of old farts here  or everyone started young.
C-64 here also with that wonderful tape drive. I still have the 20 meg IDE drive that cost 250+US, with the card to plug into my Tandy TL2. Now that was cranking, no more floppy's.

Features: Posts & Topics / Re: Like/dislike
« on July 4th, 2011, 10:29 PM »You do realise that karma is very different to the like feature, right? Karma is per user, but likes are per post.

I agree with everyone here who has stated that "karma, like/dislike" that the feature (sic) has no redeeming value. On the three forums that I Admin I refuse to activate karma, and refuse any request for the "Thank You" mod.
If I like a post I will send the poster a PM acknowledging it.

Other software / Re: I can hardly wait
« on June 25th, 2011, 12:55 AM »Oh, I'm having fun with 'em, don't worry.
Used to have fun with my AeMe release schedule, too...
Jesus Christ, this is why I never, ever, ever give out deadlines. Now we're going to have posts every other week asking when something will be released.
Most here are the ones who have been following for a while. But I can see a whole influx of new users who are the ant's in the pant's types. They will be the same ones who will fill up support forums to the hilt.
Personally I have no problem waiting. Then again I'm "seasoned". :o
