2- yup... as Arantor says, you've been consistently telling us how terrible the team is because we wouldn't believe that your dad was dead.
3- Nope... 2.0.4 did not patch anything that "your father" reported... Do you know why? Because he complained and moaned, but never ONCE gave anyone on the SMF team and actual security report with any evidence of a vulnerability except for his continual claim that "it is there, I just can;t tell you where"
4- Interesting that, if your account was compromised, all of the posts continued to use the exact same posting style and complaints that both you and "your father" use...
5- ... well, I'll just call BS at this point.\
Arantor, to get back to the actual point. Yeah, we all agree that there was a slip up there as well. Sleepy has actually just rejoined the site team with some ideas about doing something about that and some ideas on adding a double layer security protocol for the admin, if not for anything else.
While this was not a vulnerability in SMF itself, we all admit that we have some egg on our faces... our only consolation is that we're not the only ones in this boat.

most of us on SMF don't even take him seriously...
What ever else I may have thought or said of wedge... I have never thought of it as "SMF with a different name"
you guys have redone ALOT of stuff both in front and in back... and I haven't even looked at the alpha tests.
Even if someone DID think "It's just renamed SMF", how could anyone say "MINUS" features?

given how terrible some of the doctor who spin offs have been, I'm not sure it would work... but I'd like to see them try a spin-off with the virtorian crew. :)
I am desparately looking forward to this weekend's episode!

wanchope... you have missed the point of standardized nomenclature.\
Yes, Android gives releases food names.
You will note that whatever codename they give development, they don't actually mess with the nomenclature of the release structure.
"JellyBean" is officially Android OS, release 4.1.0
you can not have a beta alpha RC. that just does not make any sense.
You should never have anything other than ONE level and whole numbers.
in other words.
Alpha
Beta
RC1
maybe RC2
gold release.
(Although SMF is known for having multiple betas, that has more to do with the widespread use of the betas and the fact that they don't get many bugs reported on beta1

I possibly may like the uber-arc... but I have been extremely disappointed in the episodes so far.

actually, you and I are in complete agreement on that, Arantor.
I'd love to see you as lead dev. :) I know you don't want it but I'd love it. :)
As I said above (and you agreed)
We need a good dev lead who can motivate a team (and bring others in) and is charismatic and has a strong enough personality to work with the team while holding his/her own (in other words, not total domination, but forward LEADERSHIP)
You are right... emanuele, as wonderful as he is, is too nice (might come from still being young and not as cynical as us old fogeys)
spuds was a consideration, but he's too sensitive. He doesn't have a thick enough skin... and the same goes for Suki.
Lab does not have the skills, knowledge or personality to do it.
We also need a PM who has many of the same characteristics.
Honestly, I don't think we've had a lead dev who falls into that category since unknown left...
we've had a few who came close, but were chased out because they were strong during a time when certain folks did not want strong team leaders.
Orstio would be great to get back... :)
TE might be able to handle it.
You (arantor) could... as could Nao, but you're (understandably) busy with wedge

Off-topic / Re: My college essay on the OSS community and it's influence on me.

Suggestions from an English teacher. :) (half way through)
Also, I will note, your essay is written in a very conversational tone. If that is intentional, then well and good. However, keep in mind that such a tone may not be appropriate for all applications or schools.Quote from Dragooon on December 25th, 2012, 11:01 PM I am not sure about that last sentence... nowhere else in the essay did you talk about failing... so that kinda comes out of left field.

Quote Many people write the essay about a person, family, friend or a mentor or teacher that influenced them. While it would be wrong to say that my parents, family, friends or teachers didn’t influence me, nothing influenced me more when it comes to shaping my career choice than the open source software community.
The basic principle behind open source software is that the creator of that particular software, whether an individual or a collective, shares their entire work, ideas, implementation and designs in a manner, generallyforfree of cost, which can be used by others to add and build further upon it
It was a fairly average, boring spring day back in 2007 when Ihad the crazy idea of openingstarted my own website, a discussion forum where people could come together and discussaboutgames.Skip a few days and I hadAfter a few days of looking, I found a free service that allowed me to create a website, with a forumet all, and everything else, using an open source software called Simple Machines Forum (SMF for short). Itjustseemed like a fun thing to try back then, even while thinking I would getoverbored with it after a few weeks.
Boy,wasn’twas I wrong.Come 2013 and I’m still obsessing over it and others, perhaps even more since back then. The original forum that I created didn’t really lastlongermore than a year, but it introduced me to the community that drove the software.ItThat community is comprised of volunteersdoing this out of sheercoding and supporting their software for fun, in their free time, and doing things as professionally as anycorporatecorporation would. And perhaps that wasThat was, perhaps, the thing that surprised me the most, I thought “Why would they spend hours doing development of a software, only to give it away when theycould’ve earnedbe paid fordoing the same thing?”. I started contributingaround, initially by answering questions. Later, and eventually I started programming(creating software), t. The process ofstarting and programming tolearning to write code at a level where I could meaningfully contribute took a few months, butthroughoutalong the path, Ifoundreceived helpin the form offrom the community as well as from friends and family. It wasthen whenonly after I had released a fewlittleminor enhancements for SMF that Irealisedrealizedwhathow strong the addiction could be, t. The feeling you get when someone appreciates your work is amazing, and I understood the sense of accomplishmentoffrom creating something useful coupled with the need to test, improve and grow oneself that drove the current developers
The open source world isn’t all a bed of roses, peoplecritique over youare critical of you and your software , sometime more thana fair share’sis fair. But thatHowever those critiques also givesyou the opportunity to learn, not only how to be better at creating things but also how to manage situations better.I haven’t been really a leader, butIdohave collaboratedoveron several team projects andit’sthe process has been a roller coaster, wewouldget into arguments, get stuck over for days over a simple thing, but in the end wewouldall grow and learn a bit, and perhaps, even more importantly, contributebacka new idea and implementation to the world which, if it helps even a single person, wouldcan be considered a success.
Today, I have contributed toeven more platformsseveral packages other than SMF, and each day, I continue to challenge myselfcreatingto try to create new things. My school friends are sometimes curious about howmuch of a genius I am knowingI learned how to develop softwaresand all, but I try to teach them and explain that it really doesn’t take a genius, it just takessomegenuine interest and passion., by telling them and also trying to actually teach them what I have learned.I can’t say I’ve totally failed, and that, in a sense, is success.

hmmm.... I love the idea. I had actually started working on something along the same lines but gave it up after a bit. It's nice to see someone has more of an attention span than I do. :)
a few comments:
1- there are directories called "_notes" buried in each sub directory...
2- if you extract the files from the archive directly on a server, all the files have CHMOD 600, which makes them unusable/inaccessible.
once I corrected the permissions problems, it works nicely... (with an Aeva gallery)
I'm not a good enough coder... but, when I originally tried to use it, I used an "include" for the portal block php file... and it didn't work. Once I pasted the code into the block, it worked though.

In every season (of the new series) they have one episode in which the doctor has just a cameo and that focuses on something or someone else.
Blink introduced the best monsters of the entire Whovian universe, IMO... the weeping angels are, well, in a word, terrifying..
Even when they brought them back in the future episodes, they were still scary.
(click to show/hide)
The doctor's companions in the new series have been hit or miss, though....
Rose (season 1) good... the rets of the time, she's a whiny, lovestruck twit with no good plot
Donna - hated her (but then again, I dislike the actress)
Martha - probably one of my favorites from the new series - but under plotted and wasted
Amy - meh... she's cute - but they tried to make the show more focused on her and that annoyed me.
old companions:
Jamie - one of the few male companions... interesting fella.
Sarah Jane - probably the best, most developed companion ever...
Teela - kick-ass barbarian!
Ace - possibly the worst companion ever
Romana - cool... possibly a little-basis for River Song...
the other companions... well, take'em of leave 'em...

BTW: I have heard, in the new season, the Statue of Liberty is a giant, weeping angel!!!!!!
