Other software / Re: Arguments about the credits

Actually, I partially agree with you....

I think that we should list the developers who were in developer positions during the release cycle and then list all other, former developers and other code contributors as "contributors"... because while they did contribute, and should be recognized for it, they are no longer active developers on the project. (and this can include github contributors or we can separate them as they are

then list the team and the other folks like beta testers, language contributors, etc.

I also believe that siloing the team should be done away with.

List the developers and the former developers or contributors
then the current team (just as team not subdivided)
then former team and/or friends
then language, beta, etc etc etc

that's where I started....

DR-DOS
10 MB HD
360K floppy drive (5 1/4")
Amber monitor
8Mhz TURBO, 8088 machine.

I ran a WWIV BBS for years on a 1200 baud modem

upgraded to Win31. on a 286 with a 9600 baud and 3 1/2" cunchy drives
then to a 386SX, and finally to a pentium (586) with a 14.4 modem.

Started WWIV in Turbo PASCAL, converted to C and then C++.
Was part of an international network of WWIV systems...  my computer auto-dialed Califonia once a night to pick up packets and then acted as the local area hub from 1-5 am as everyone else auto-dialed to grab their packets and so on...
It wa a remarkable piece of logic to handle the routing of that stuff.

(although I already knew most of those "facts" - and I have watched every episode - well, every episode that still exists)

This one is more fun.... ComicCon

yeah....  I dunno.   We'll have to see him in the role

Honestly, as it stands with the clips that I have seen, I can't quite picture him.

(also, the IPs used to access this account have not varied)

2- yup... as Arantor says, you've been consistently telling us how terrible the team is because we wouldn't believe that your dad was dead.

3- Nope... 2.0.4 did not patch anything that "your father" reported... Do you know why? Because he complained and moaned, but never ONCE gave anyone on the SMF team and actual security report with any evidence of a vulnerability except for his continual claim that "it is there, I just can;t tell you where"

4- Interesting that, if your account was compromised, all of the posts continued to use the exact same posting style and complaints that both you and "your father" use...

5- ...  well, I'll just call BS at this point.\

Arantor,  to get back to the actual point.  Yeah, we all agree that there was a slip up there as well.  Sleepy has actually just rejoined the site team with some ideas about doing something about that and some ideas on adding a double layer security protocol for the admin, if not for anything else.

While this was not a vulnerability in SMF itself, we all admit that we have some egg on our faces...   our only consolation is that we're not the only ones in this boat.

well, there isn't much that we haven't already discussed openly.

With the exception of the name of the vector/admin - I don't think there is anything really surprising about how the hacker did what he did (once he got into the admin account)

most of us on SMF don't even take him seriously...

What ever else I may have thought or said of wedge... I have never thought of it as "SMF with a different name"
you guys have redone ALOT of stuff both in front and in back...   and I haven't even looked at the alpha tests.

Even if someone DID think "It's just renamed SMF", how could anyone say "MINUS" features?

actually, it looks as if they may have been upgraded. On the credits page, I am listed in the "marketing" group. As of RC3, I was still PM and was in the "project support" group.

Just watched the season finale of Doctor Who. I hated it.
I have to say, it epitomized everything that I hated about this season.
Moffat pisses me off (in one interview during the show he comments "When you are a writer, you have to like your ideas. It doesn't matter if anyone else likes them, if the writer likes the idea, he can make everyone else like it.")
And I fear this is exactly what went wrong with the second half of this season. Moffat and Smith were over-pleased with their own cleverness without taking into account the fact that their details SUCKED.

(click to show/hide)
Matt Smith commented that he thought that the whisper men would be "this season's monster". I could not disagree more. The whisper men were a joke and the Great Intelligence was there just to explain Clara's existence. Way to waste a villain!
How the TARDIS came to the Doctor has already been explained several times - without some wussy Clara's influence. At leats the explanation in The Doctor's Wife fit with established canon.
We've seen other time lords die without creating a huge rip in the fabric of time...
Even the old doctor flashbacks were wasted, IMO.
Overall - with very few exceptions, this season was so much of a waste that I am questioning if I want to even bother watching next season

I disliked Matt Smith from the beginning of his tenure. At the start of this season, I was starting to come around and rated him not as bad as I first thought. However, after the second half of this season, I have returned to my original belief that Matt Smith is probably the worst Doctor in the series (and yes, I include Colin Baker in that comparison)
And the "cliff hanger" just pissed me off even more...

actually... this one episode even had me hating River Song (who was probably my favorite female character in the revitalized series).

ARGH!!!!!!

Features / Re: Permissions UI, latest experiment
« on May 16th, 2013, 05:11 PM »
I like this concept...

Actually, I find the deny group useful - and not just for trouble makers....

because of the "all members" group and the inclusive way that smf does permissions, I have some groups (especially post-count groups)set to DENY access to functionality.

Ok...  so, I watched it last night and I was pissed. I almost hated it. I ceretainly did not like it...

and I have gone back to HATING Matt Smith's Doctor.

(click to show/hide)
He was so pleased during one of the little vignette interviews about how he decided to handle switching between the doctor and the cyber-version  --- and I despised it. It was stupid and it was annoying.

The kids were completely wasted.
The little girl was a twit most of the time, the boy was completely forgetable and they both spent much of the epsidoe, standing, staring at nothing and contributing nothing.

When the cyber-thing had control of the doctor, he started to tell us (and Clara) something about Clara...   THAT information could have justified the absolute stupidity of the rest of the "fighting for control" scenes... but no....  they didn't give us anything more than we already know.

And I utterly DESPISE the route they seem to be taking about the Doctor being in love with Clara. It failed miserably for the Doctor and Rose episodes...  how the **** do they think the fans are going to approve of it now 9especially since most fans have been annoyed as hell at the dreck they have been fed this second half-season so far)

(the only good thing in the episode was that Calra gets to smack the Doctor around yet again... (I am actually beinging to wonder about the amount of hitting that has been applied to the Doctor from Clara on in this season, it seems to be a very Masochistic relationship being developed)

I am SO disappointed in Neil Gaimen for this episode.
