If you're going to do it you should do it for everyone otherwise the site will look good to a guest who will then be lost once registered.

Bug reports / Re: 'Thoughts' privacy not functioning properly
« on March 24th, 2014, 04:07 PM »
I was looking at my test site and found that the thought is in your personal text in your Forum Profile, and can be cleared from that screen. It seems that the Personal Text box is set from a Thought when the thinker clicks 'Posterity' from the Action menu of the thought itself. Sorry if that is unclear! But it seems that once you have clicked Posterity then the thought is in your Personal Text and viewable by all, whether the thought was private or not.

I have not tested this on Wedge as I have never posted a thought (I'm evidently not very deep :) ).

Plugins / [Plugin] Re: HideMod

So perhaps, in the short term, it's easier for CerealGuy to open a new topic? Then permissions etc can be discussed later.

Why not switch on the modify own post permission?

I've just reinstalled Wedge from scratch as I thought this error may be due to something I'd done, but I get the same issue straight off the bat.

When I go into the Admin panel and go to 'Create New Category' I'm either taken to the home screen or, without the .htaccess file, I get this message:
Quote
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.
Obviously I've checked the permissions (644) but why would it go wrong for this screen and not others?

Bug reports / Re: New board error
« on March 11th, 2014, 08:15 PM »
I can reproduce the original report on my local version. Create a new category, create another category, then create a new board under each with the same name - on creating the second new board you get the error "This address is already in use. Please go back and change it." However the boards have been set up and can be posted to. I have not received any further errors.

One thing perhaps of note is that the admin log shows all the steps except adding the second new board. Could the error message pertain to inserting into the admin log rather than adding the board itself?

Edit: no it couldn't! Recreated the error, restored, turned off admin logging; can still recreate error message.

It looks OK without the plugin. With it I get the same as you.

Yes I think that has fixed everything. It now works, albeit in a different way, as SMF does. Which is thus:
What is SMF's way? This way, or something else?
The admin screen is different, but the results are the same.

If a member has not yet set any options then he will get the default option i.e. what is set "For guests/new members". The "For existing members" dropdown will not change these members' options.

If a member has saved any setting on his Look & Layout, Notifications or Personal Messaging screens then that screen's options are now saved in the database and will be changed by the "For existing members" dropdown but not "For guests/new members".
And it makes sense. If you change a setting in your profile page, there's no way to know if you didn't change the other settings because you agreed with them (therefore, you want them to stay that way), or you didn't bother (therefore, they should remain 'default'.)
The only fix for that would be to replace checkboxes with select boxes that say "Default (Yes)" (or "Default (No)"), "Yes", and "No". To me, it's... Less usable, I'd say.
It doesn't need 'fixing' but an explanation will be useful when someone else asks the same question.

Oi @txcas is this good??

I cannot recreate this using Opera 12.16. Either sending or reading using Opera the code block has horizontal scroll bars.

So if you Ignore a member's posts it won't take effect if they are in one of your contact lists? (Wedge will ignore the ignore  )

Features / Re: Poll: dropping oldIE
« on March 5th, 2014, 02:30 PM »
Actually I thought that my old employer used IE7 (and therefore many other organisations would) but searching my old posts I see that they used IE8. At my old place I couldn't upgrade or install any software (i.e. a different browser) hence my caution. But scratch that.

A warning to old browser users makes the software look good - it needs the latest browsers because it's using the newest features.
