This issue says that Wedge uses SHA1 and Elkarte SHA256, and suggests switching to bcrypt.

My question is how come you don't use php's password_hash() which currently uses bcrypt but will change over time, presumably to whatever becomes more secure, so one less thing to worry about?

Congratulations, I'm full of admiration for keeping the project going without you-know-who. It must be a good feeling to be this close after all this time and after all the twists and turns in the journey.

I cannot get this (or thoughts) to work if either has a number i.e. 'thoughts' and 'topics' both work but adding a number displays the custom homepage as if the topics or thoughts line were not there.

So if I set the Homepage top dropdown to 'Custom Contents' and then set the Custom Contents text box to:
topics:10
thoughts
boards
info
...then save and reload, the homepage is displayed as if I had input:
thoughts
boards
info

I have played around with spaces before and after the colon to no avail :(

This is a great feature and I suggest two things:
add a default option so admins can set the homepage back to how it was before they started playing around with this feature they just found;
Add a link to the Homepage setup screen in the 'New to Wedge?' block.

I've just reinstalled Wedge from scratch as I thought this error may be due to something I'd done, but I get the same issue straight off the bat.

When I go into the Admin panel and go to 'Create New Category' I'm either taken to the home screen or, without the .htaccess file, I get this message:

Obviously I've checked the permissions (644) but why would it go wrong for this screen and not others?

How is this done? I cannot get it to work, either on my site or here on wedge.org. When I click the Ignore link I am taken to *my* profile, but there is no change to the topics to which the member has posted :hmm: Am I doing something wrong or is this a new bug?

I've deleted all files in my wedge folder and removed all tables from the wedge database. I've downloaded the latest zip of wedge from Github, unzipped and FTP'd the files. I've done this many times.

When I browse to the folder I get this screen:

...where normally it is laid out better.

The installer continues with these skinless (or is it themeless) screens and gives a proper-looking home page of the new forum. However with each visit to the homepage I get these 4 errors;

So a while ago I changed some language files for the UK. However it turns out I need to install various software (rather than amending on the github website) and Nao has tried to explain how to do this. However I have trouble following his more technical descriptions and obviously he hasn't the time (or the patience :) ) to hand-hold me.

I want to do more UK amendments (e.g. for the plugins) so installing it all seems a good idea. However I am stuck.

Can someone please help me in simple language to finish the process.

When Nao asked me to amend my previous commit (i.e. the one with only the comma changed), and I replied that I couldn't find the command on the web site, he gave me these instructions to install various software:

What you want to do is install TortoiseGit (along with msysgit... Follow instructions on the TortoiseGit website!), then clone the languages repo into a folder (easy way is to use 'fork to Windows' on the github website, hopefully Tortoise will 'catch' the link and create the repo for you), then change the contents, and commit to the local repo using TortoiseGit. If you're already doing that, you don't need Git Bash, as I said you can simply amend your latest commit by launching the Commit window, and then checking the 'amend last commit' checkbox. It'll automatically merge your new stuff to the last commit.

git commit --amend (or git commit -a) is a command that will take your last commit, and consider it 'undone'. Your next commit will then integrate anything that was in the last commit, plus whatever you added. Basically, it's like a rebase + squash.

In TortoiseGit (my favorite Git client), you can amend a commit by simply launching the Commit window, and clicking the 'amend last commit' checkbox. Your last commit will then be shown, and you can complete it manually with whatever files are changed.
Then, you just submit, and push to your repo. (You'll probably have to force-push, there's a checkbox for that too, because your latest commit will have been deleted, and GitHub can't "fast-forward" its own local copy to yours.

This was all a while ago, but as I have been 'on the road' I have not had a chance (or decent internet connection) to look in much depth. However I am now in one place for a few weeks so here we go!

This morning I have installed a bunch of programmes which are now listed under "Github, Inc" and "TortoiseGit". I have cloned the Wedge/languages repo and in the GitHub screen on my PC this shows as a local repository, as does Farjo/rep. However if I clone Farjo/languages I just get another copy of Wedge/languages.

On Windows, within the TortoiseGit group, I have no icon called "Commit window" or anything similar.

There's also this change https://github.com/Farjo/languages/commit/5415cd12604ca9226b64954652bb94464b92c0df which hasn't been incorporated into the Wedge/languages master and I do not know how to do so.

So if anyone can have a look and explain in plain English I would be most grateful.

I added a new Message Icon without any problem, however when I go to modify it or any of the standard icons there is this message:

The current wedge version number is incorrect; clicking on '(more detailed)' gives 5 errors.

Had a quick look and seems OK - rejects wrong answers, accepts the right one. It's case sensitive.

In the Authentication Reminder screen the Save button is 'live' all the time, even if nothing is filled in or the passwords do not match / are not complete. Should it be disabled until the form is verified as complete?

Just to let you know that the SMF default smiley set's folder is copied across into wedge/assets/smileys :cool: however the smiley set must be created manually within Wedge. Once it's been created and made default all is well :thanks:
