Plugins / Re: Using permissions in plugins
« on October 24th, 2011, 07:43 AM »
Permissions should split up like the Modification setting page, allow each mod to add it's own and have a common misc. page for everything else. That way it gets easier, and the page needs to have a host of customizability options otherwise mods like AeMe would fail to be fully incorporated into the permission area. Just a question, are you only planning on overhauling the permissions UI or the underlying structure as well?

I suspect that means something you offered before, sorry I can't remember..
He provided a very similar patch on SM.org, plus it's very similar to how I pass parameters to wesqlQuery.

Also, btw, I'm not sure wesqlQuery allows passing extra parameters not related to the query itself...?

Like, new wesqlQuery('hook_name', (query stuff), array($set, &$users, &$is_name))...?
It does via the fetch function, the parameters are passed to result callbacks.

Also, why would you want to pass in parameters not related to the query itself, exactly?
They can be required for processing the result.

TBH I'm not exactly comfortable with a code generating framework. Not sure why.

The project is mid-sized and I want proper MVC separation. I think I'll make my own framework using some known libraries and my past experiences. Basically I'll be using TOX-G, Inspekt, custom DB query class similar to wesqlQuery, custom Token/Session handling class and my standard View/Subview class. I'll take a look at CakePHP and CodeIgnitor to give a second thought but this seems to be my current direction.

Off-topic / Existing framework vs creating my own?
« on October 11th, 2011, 10:50 PM »
I just picked up project and am wondering if using an existing framework would be a better idea than creating one. I have never used a framework before since I always create my own whenever I work on another project, plus this isn't exactly a big project.

What do you guys think? If a framework then which one?

This project is hourly. Thanks.

PS : Typing on an iPad sucks....

TBH it should be something like index.lang or index.inc, index.php, login.php can be confusing. But otherwise the idea's good.

I might share mine as well, sorry for lack of screenshot since I haven't setup LAMP yet on my new laptop.

The Pub / Re: Replacing the recycle bin
« on October 7th, 2011, 03:41 PM »
Inline deletion is always better IMO, it's generally simpler to handle than moving a post to recycle bin. TBH normal users should not be shown anything, and moderators should be shown that "this post" was deleted in a faded box with the option to view it and restore it. Deleted threads should be similar but in MessageIndex.
