There are no plans to directly import from SMF 1.1.x at this stage, so you'd tend to upgrade to SMF 2 first.

Not since a long, long time ago when there were different people in charge, judging by the archives of the team discussion boards.

Oh, maybe. There was a lot of stuff discussed and no doubt some of it fell out of my brain. :/

And aggrivate the hell out of arantor by following him to his new domain. And i spose nao is in that as well.
Well, after events of earlier today I realised how much time I'd wasted over there, so here's about the best place to find me.

You need to do something about the string object btw... I think I posted a benchmark around in the private area with suggestions on fixing that
Didn't you already commit that?

I don't really remember, I just know it was handled badly.

It's not, I've made mention of it more than once, usually in response to people asking for support.

Technically, it's still faster to load than SMF in my book, even with jQuery loaded............. And that's what counts
And that's not even the half of it yet, there's plenty more to come from that sort of direction. Wait until we get a few other things implemented off the tracker, then it'll be really going for speed.

Honestly, it was like making the jump from 1.1.x to 2.0 modding for me; even there, I found so much less hassle involved, and the recent versions make it modestly usable for doing big stuff if you're really in tune with how SMF works. (As SimpleDesk is proving, a great many things can be achieved if you're in sync with SMF's mindset)

But yeah, I'd like to think that it would be worth the hassle since it's 'do it once and then it's done' or at least that's the plan.

Last year saw a lot of people, mostly good people, getting hurt. We were far from the only casualties.

Wait, there's a new version of me now, I'm the Arantor 1983 ;)

Oh, I'm definitely buggy at times, but when I run without bugs, I run damn fast :D

No SMF themes or mods will work at all, other than what we directly add to the core, the changes already for this have gone beyond the point where a standard package will work.

In theory an SMF mod could be set up to support both but in most cases it will be a rewrite of the mod anyway.

You might have been ninja'd, but you explained it better ;)

Yes, that's the plan - generally, to be non destructive, so that you import it alongside the existing site, and if you're happy, move the forum into the place of the old one.

The other benefit of having it like that means it's possible to write importers for all kinds of things, not just other forum systems - but other gallery systems, other mods and so on

The simple answer is yes, it will be possible to import everything from your current forum into Wedge. I thought we had answered it though...

Honestly, though, I'm not sure which is *actually* worse.

DNF, yes, 14 years in the making. But it's had various legal issues hanging over it owing to companies going bankrupt and rights transfers and so on.

SMF 2.0... 5 1/2 years in the making, releasing 'minor' release candidates every 6 months...
