Off-topic / Re: Interesting feedback

I have to confess, I was a bit surprised when hearing it because Wedge stopped feeling like SMF some time ago. Yes, of course there's the heritage, but we came from SMF, it's hardly surprising that there's some heritage there!
Yes, I'm not disputing that more work is needed, but I know full well what is coming up and how in time it will be very different.

Depends on the hosting. In my case, I'd just set another domain up on my VPS without too much trouble (but I don't really have the extra capacity right now)

So, today I hear that one of the beta testers who did actually bother to install Wedge commented to the effect that, for the most part, Wedge isn't that different from SMF. (Well, DUH. Oh, the same person also said that we need a "LOT of work"... well, DUH, it's an alpha. Alpha has unfinished stuff. That's why it's alpha and not 'beta' or 'release candidate')
Hmm. How far do we have to go to not look like SMF? How far should we go? How much more do we need to do?

Interesting idea.
But what would you do with it, exactly? Make it a general forum?
I have to admit the best website I ever saw on a similar sort of tangent was something.com (seems to be down, can't see if it's still like this) and all it had was the word 'Something.' and nothing else.

Bug reports / Re: Infraction bugs
« on May 6th, 2013, 11:15 PM »If the latter, may I simply rewrite the Boards.php code to remove the associative arrays and just have something simpler..?
Oh, and $string might not be used, but was $item used? (Since there's no way to iterate over an array just having its keys, unless you grab array_keys then foreach over that)
What I've done so far, is add an extra 'note' parameter with anything in it. If empty, don't bother. If set, then just so a <span class="note"> with it as the content, and no link. (No sure it's worth linking it... After all, there's a link just next to it..?!)
And I don't know of any settings to remove an individual cookie in Chrome; all I know is that I do Inspect Element, then Resources, then Cookies, and there's an option to remove them here.
How, can't I just force all sessions for 'Nao' to be removed from the database..?
log_online will tell you what user id is attached to a given session.

I really do not want to create an !empty test, as quick as it might be, for something that *no other user will ever encounter*.

We can do that. We can even go and make a complete new template just for those.
The one problem with doing that, though, is that the implication is we should fetch the number of topics applicable in each case thereafter which is not cheap. Consistency FTW.

It should definitely offer the option, though the idea is that 'searching this board' does mean 'just this board'. It is how it was originally designed to work.

Bug reports / Re: Infraction bugs
« on May 6th, 2013, 09:52 PM »Uh. Well, as long as it doesn't crash, I guess there's no reason to change it..? (Performance...?? I don't think so..?)
Also, did you look into the session issue? Not that I can't add an isset() test to get rid of the error, but I wanted you to be able to see by yourself, uh....
I saw that when I first wrote that code, and as soon as the mod cache is rebuilt the error goes away.
Oh, and an issue, I'm sure you're aware of it: 'Infraction log' in the board index actually leads to the Moderation log.
Also, for design reasons, the Error log link should have the number of errors next to it, rather than in the title attribute...?

Yeah, that's not setting the table up properly. The installer normally forces the collation properly on install so that everything has the same collation (which should be utf8_unicode_ci IIRC) but if you don't manually specify it on adding tables or columns yourself, it'll use whatever the default for the server is, which looks like utf8_general_ci.

Also, just as a thought, with some multi-page topics, the first post my not be relevant. Oh, and Google may not use it anyway because it is supposed to be tied to the content actually on the page, and there's absolutely no guarantee that it will be a better description of the content than the first post would for the second and onward pages in a multi-page topic.
@Pandos, I did mention that too ;)

I still haven't seen this episode, and probably won't until tonight, but calling it Mark Gatiss' best DW episode is probably not a stretch, he's only written The Unquiet Dead (season 1), The Idiot's Lantern (season 2), Victory of the Daleks (season 5), Night Terrors (season 6) and Cold War (season 7 part 1) before this, all of which were passable but nothing amazing (though, The Unquiet Dead, is probably the best of *those*)

No, we don't, but it's still funny :)
And yes, that's the thing that makes xkcd funny, is that it really does put a strange twist on reality by exploring the deeper aspects of it.
