Archived fixes / [FAQ] Re: Why isn't wedge.org running Wedge?
« on April 20th, 2011, 04:07 PM »
Solution 1 is what Noisen already does and I'm inclined to think that's what Wedge should do.

Or you can store it but only display it as per solution 1 - which means that if there's a split, the split still retains the information to make semantic use of it.

I'd say that since other systems don't worry about it too much (vBulletin for example does much as Noisen does), it's not really an issue in the long run. Though I don't know how you'd fix it other than an all or nothing scenario.

Yes, I knew it was :P I actually knew even before seeing the Noisen patches that's how you'd done it because merged topics, the later thread's first post has a title.

I'm just reaffirming that we can do that unless anyone has any better ideas?

Well... what we could do is at post-save, determine whether the subject is 'original topic subject with Re: prefix' and if so, ditch it so that there isn't a subject per post - only when it's a per-post title.

And something similar will be added into the core of Wedge, though not quite the same way as it's done here. It might look similar though, haven't exactly decided how it should look yet.

They're better off in the same flow, to the best of my knowledge. I tried having them all at the bottom, but wasn't happy with it.
I actually like it, it makes them seem more retaining-context to me. I'm aware that it could be argued as a bug but every time it's hit me, it seemed logical if that makes sense.

I've lost count of the number of forums it would have made my life easier on.

If you're referring to the legal papers with SMF, we weren't involved in that - we're not members of the LLC or NPO, and frankly, I wouldn't want to be.

(I mean, seriously: if I were on the SMF team now, I'd have to look at joining the NPO as a legal member in order to be party to some of the votes of where things go. If that's not a WTF, I don't know what is.)

We have both signed CLAs giving rights to use any code we gave them for SMF itself so bug fixes and so on we gave them are able to be used.
