Off-topic / Re: PC hotline
« on June 15th, 2011, 12:56 PM »Whenever I install a new program, it will spend literally *minutes* (the bigger the program, the longer) in the initial install phase (sometimes it says "gathering size data" or something, sometimes it just says "installing"),
I get crashes in Chrome. Yes, in Chrome. Global program crash, not just a single tab... Fun. I installed the dev channel version, so far it's more stable.
Oh, and does anyone know a way to prevent Win7 from NOT saving data when a program is not run in Administrator mode?

Features: Forward thinking / Re: Removing deprecated code

The main reason XF is 5.2.4 is because of its dependencies with respect to Zend Framework components. (Please, dear god, never let us go down that road. That road is the path to madness, from experience.)
Anyone using 5.2.x should be using 5.2.17 on a production environment unless they know for certain they're using a 64 bit build of PHP, otherwise they are at trivial risk of DDoS from floating point mishandling.

Depends on country and skill level. I can usually get away with charging $30 per hour or so and that's considered cheap - but I tend to only take on things that interest me in the first place (so I get to do things I enjoy)

One of these days you're going to read what I've written and actually take note of the words I've used. If you admired our work half as much as you claim to,
1) you wouldn't have demanded access to the source code pretty much off the bat, but understood that this was us doing what we wanted to do first and foremost, and not building it to meet your goals,
2) you wouldn't have spent so much time trying to impose your ideas on how we want to build it and trying to tell us how to implement things, as though we're newbie programmers, and
3) you wouldn't have asked for a download just because SMF was out... no-one else has asked because everyone else took the time to read what's written and realised that there wasn't a download already.
Also, there's an implied 4) if we do give you a download, which we're not going to until we're ready, we will spend an awful lot of time catering to your questions about how it works, and how you want to change it, when how it works is in a state of flux and that your changes are specific to your site, which means that we're only going to be burning more time helping you instead of benefitting everyone.
As it is I've wasted far too much time and energy trying to explain to you what everyone else seems to have already understood.

I think it's an outpouring of frustration that he's been stitched up by someone who did some site work for him.

I think in Unknown's case, he'd just moved on. Don't know about Jeff though, and I haven't spoken to him in ages (probably longer than when I last spoke to Unknown, really)

Ultimately, so do we have that uneasy feeling. The public image is that 2.0's finally out and they can get on with 2.1 but honestly, I'm not convinced that 2.1 will be anything special, likely it'll fix some of the bugs they pushed back from 2.0.

Well, Aeva Lite is already part of Wedge under the guise of Aeva Media fully...
I think the animated CAPTCHA will prove interesting - of course, it's just another tool in the arms race but it'll make a difference, I think!
The plugin interface I'm still building, still deciding a few things about that at the moment, but more on that in due course.

No, that's a long way of saying you left here in a huff, edited most of your posts, decried us for not making time just to sort your specific problems out, and now you're back, expecting something to have happened that benefits you.

No, it won't be using the honey pot out of the box but it should be fairly easy to port the honey pot mod (and not require patching for versions!)
There are some anti-spam methods in the core, though.

Provided no SMF 1.1.x code were used in processing it and only SMF's BSD or Wedge code were used to read the database, it's cool.

Also, http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=434092.msg3073089#msg3073089 is interesting.
I'm not exactly sure what the team will say but it's interesting nonetheless, and it does mean we're even more in the clear than before, bwhahahah.

« on June 13th, 2011, 08:30 PM »It actually sort of makes sense to take one version of SMF you're fairly happy with, and build on it using mods and themes, as the time you need to sink in when updating can be looong
Surely he must be kidding. It's not so hard to understand a little irony is it?
Or maybe it is? Did you stop and consider the amount of time it takes to update/upgrade SMF?
When Wedge is done, I'm sure there'll be a slight overhaul*

What, just because SMF threw out a release, that somehow we're obliged to? It has not yet been released and frankly I am more than a bit annoyed at you, since apparently we have no time for you, by your own words, but that we still should move to your timeline? Um, no.
If you want to see what's changed, there is a whole board listing all the new features. More than that, you're just going to have to wait, and in case you'd forgotten, I specifically told you that for your site you were better sticking with SMF.
