Oh, I see the problem. I'm just not sure how best to fix it.

You mean, adding a per-skin option like <disable> and <hide>, right...? (disable = not selectable, not usable, only used for inheritance. hide = not selectable, but usable through e.g. default skin selection.)
Yeah, something like that, so that the admin can set a skin as not being selectable by users. One of the things that I personally would want to do is set up a theme/skin/whatever and not let anyone else have anything else because on my site, it's about how I want to present it.

Except it's very unlikely you'd do that. (There's only the Asus Eeepad Transformer/Transformer Prime that does that on a wider scale, AFAIK. These definitely qualify for full desktop experience to me.)
Or an iPad with any Bluetooth keyboard ;)

Well, mobile support is included in our default theme... Considering that it's less than 30 lines of code or so, I don't think it's that big a deal. Do you?
That part isn't a big deal and I'd certainly agree with doing it.

The reason I'm so adamant about mobile support being a theme and not a skin is as indicated the reduction in bandwidth (and, if we're careful, there's no reason why we couldn't trim certain data we're not showing from even being queried in the first place)

Fixed that for you.

- Default skin for guests
- Default skin for new members

Until now, easy to grasp... But even easier:

- Default skin for mobile devices
Works for me.

Also: option to disable users picking their own (which is a shade cleaner than having to remove skins)

Hmm yeah that's the thing -- philosophy differences. A mobile device can either be seen as a "device without a mouse or keyboard" (i.e. you need to redo the UI), or a "device with a low resolution"
Yup. Though most current mobile devices subscribe to both camps; almost all mobile phones are both, most tablets are the former, but you can get keyboards for both.

I do get the impression that the mobile support should be handled less by a skin and more by a theme (bearing in mind that we can fall back to the default)

Hmm, seems like the caches may be OK then. It's just one of those things I don't really know that much about, you know?

The whole Regular Members thing is a massive headache from both a technical and logistical point of view.

A simple band-aid, as suggested by Unknown years ago would be to start off by renaming it to Ungrouped Members. At least then it would be accurate rather than vague and possibly misleading like it is now.

There is no technical reason why we can't add 'Regular Members' to the additional groups, other than the fact it should be completely unnecessary. I'm not arguing that it's broken but I don't think that's the solution.

- Board URLs: I think you're supposed to rename your boards manually. And yes, I guess it'd be nicer to automatically fill in the names based on the board names...
Not what I'm getting at. Physically the wrong URL is put into the DB at board creation time.

The first board, correctly, has smf/wedge/general as its URL (reflecting the fact this is running on http://smf/wedge/) but the second board only has new-board-1 which is handled as a complete URL, i.e. off site to another domain.

- Topic URLs: yes, the key was updated to lose the uniqueness. The title needs to be cached because generating it is quite expensive (especially if it has special chars in it), and we need to replace topic IDs with topic URLs on the entire page in realtime. So it's really not for determining the ID of the current topic URL, it's the other way around. Did I fail at something..?
I don't think you failed at anything, it's more a case of I see the option in the admin panel but it's really not clear what the option was supposed to do (especially as in ye olden PURLs times, it would cache the title for lookup purposes, not for saving effort during conversion)

Also, is it actually faster to do a query than it is to just do the replacements?

! Sorry Nao, I don't think you'll like this regex change much. But we need to make sure that canonical URLs do not get passed through the PHPSESSID injector, since prior to this, they were - which means PHPSESSIDs galore throughout the web, even with canonical URLs. Yes, SMF has this bug but too many people keep denying its existence without actually bothering to check. (Subs-Template.php)

What's there not to like in Jim Carrey...? The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, ASOUE, even Dumb & Dumber was a good movie...
I find that American written humour tends not to be that funny. What's not to like? Well, Dumb and Dumber was, um, kinda dumb for me. The second Ace Ventura film was pretty bad, him as The Riddler in Batman Forever was passable I guess, and Liar Liar was... not so hot either, nor was The Number 23.

He's got a better track record than some actors I can think of, though.

I considered both approaches and concluded that I'd rather have it prominent and visible, but have no objection to moving it to the action menu for wireless.

Given that right now it's the only 'appreciation' / 'thank' / 'karma' type feature we have, it does need *some* prominence.

I didn't like Twins, I thought it a bit stupid (which is quite impressive given that I do like some of Jim Carrey's films), it just struck me that the jokes were written in such a way that they came across as forced even if they weren't intended as such.

I've still never seen Taxi either.

Sadly, most of my DVDs are packed up in boxes right now, but I guess I could find something on iTunes to watch?

It'll get sorted, don't worry :)

Not entirely sure we need 'Like' both next to the Quote button and in the More... menu at the same time though.

Yeah, I'm an uncultured yob. I mean, I quite like most of the films that Arnold Schwarzenegger made.[1]
 1. I prefer to imagine that Batman & Robin, Twins, Junior and Kindergarten Cop never happened, so that it's merely Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines I can think badly of him for :P

There's a difference between webelow3 and 4? I can't see it...

But webelow is structurally what's on the badges so it really should be that! :P
