Archived fixes / Re: Not sure what to make of this

Not superficially, no, but it's entirely possible that something will make sense once it's picked apart.

As I said, Friday, I have nothing on, so I'm going to sit down, write some test cases and start making sense of how both the preparser and main parser work. This has more repercussions than being able to nail down some of the ongoing bugs, but identifying where, potentially, some of the enhancements to performance can be made.

The thing with Chrome is that Google can throw a lot of resources at it, far more than Opera can, hence the hare-like pace Chrome has evolved at compared to Opera's tortoise.

I suspect, though, some of the changes in recent Chrome versions will come back to bite, namely the push towards adopting Google accounts (the first thing you see on a new install is the 'Log into Google' prompt)

I know what you mean, actually, I've been worried about the way that things I grew up with have been treated, much like the remake series of Thundercats, for example (I haven't yet brought myself to watch it...)

Perhaps it was in WYSIWYG mode?

The me tag is implemented through work in the preparser, amongst other things.

Tomorrow I'm out, but Friday I'm going to sit down and start unpicking the current issues with the preparser. The first thing I need to do with both the preparser and the parser are to write test units for them, to validate what correct functionality should be (and then I can automate whether it's behaving as it should)

I wouldn't be that worried about Opera, they do have other revenue streams, such as Opera Mobile, and don't forget that FastMail.fm is actually owned by Opera too.

Works in Chrome beta too.

It's not advertising itself as Opera based, certainly.

That's curious.

For those wondering, that means there's an entry in the log-online table that isn't represented in the session table, which I guess could happen if an entry happens to somehow fall foul of the GC. I wasn't sure that should be possible, but it's also code that's mostly not modified from SMF's (I would have only modified it to cope with wider columns with IPv6 support)

Off-topic / Re: Windows 7 runs fine on my laptop obsolete
« on March 28th, 2012, 11:49 AM »
Well, I knew that Win7 ran well on older hardware; the PC I've just obsoleted has a 5 year old motherboard sporting a AMD Athlon x64 4200X2 processor, I had to upgrade a couple of years back to Win7 as I was doing some work that would have gone above the 3GB memory limit (and I only had XP 32 bit) so I went from XP 32-bit to 7 64-bit running on 8GB RAM and it ran surprisingly well.

I'm not clear what the problem is with the 3DS, while it uses a custom browser, it uses a custom browser in a very specific environment (i.e. it's not a general purpose device) It also seems to support a decent set of browser specifications considering that it isn't going to be generally pointed at the web at large.

Plugins / [Plugin Screenshots] Re: To Do List

Pretty much. The only exceptions for generally-available ones tend to be the 'official' jQuery UI plugins, but even those can be a royal PITA to work with.

Pretty much all jQuery plugins of any kind are rat's-nests from what I've seen... ;)

Archived fixes / [Fixed] Re: Bug with color & font selectboxes
« on March 28th, 2012, 12:12 AM »
Sure, before today. All the times I'd seen the quick moderation selectbox, it had sufficient width to contain 'Moderate', but nothing more, and that's fine with me.

I'm not sure what the best fix for that situation is (but at least now I know what the problem is, I wasn't entirely clear before)

I have to admit, I never considered that a problem, it looked fine to me being how it was.

Now why doesn't that surprise me?
