Off-topic / Re: Hackers could decapitate the internet soon

Well, I'm not ruling out such an attack. I have seen smaller-scale attacks on individual DNS providers in the past, so such an attack on the root servers has never been a question of if, merely when.

But if they're expecting it, they can perform cache lengthening to mitigate around it - though that will in itself cause all kinds of problems, it's not a cureall and should not be considered as such.

There are enough layers of caching that DNS won't stop immediately. But if the attack is sustained (8+, or even 24+ hours), those caches will naturally expire.

We do, but with any luck I can start getting back on them now I'm a lot more settled in and have no plans to go out for the next couple of days :)

I've moved a board from admin, moved it back.

There were other places that weren't quite right - namely the jumpto could be misordered at times and so could move-topics. But the category page is still wrong, even if everything else is correct, which says to me there is something wrong with the category listing page itself. I'm doing some other oddments tonight, so I'll look at that code too.

No, it hasn't. How did you apply the changes, exactly?

(You may have to move a board, then move it back to force MySQL to rebuild the indexes, assuming it's in a MyISAM table)

I'm trying to do that a bit more, hence tromping around Brighton today. Photos are in the process of being uploaded in an experiment trying out Tumblr.

If they know it's coming. If it's a sneak attack, you can't configure it in advance against this because of cache poisoning and generally TTL issues.

I don't think that's it. I think there is a viable and credible problem here, but until now there's never been a reason for them to attack.

Only a few minutes closer by train. Where I get on the train now is merely one stop further down the London-Brighton line. But I wanted to get out, get some fresh air, even some sunlight, and road-test my camera. Good afternoon of walking but I must have walked about 5 miles in total and I'm just not used to it.

It's OK, I'm too zombified from walking around miles and miles of Brighton trying to take pictures to think too clearly anyway >_>

No, all I did was make moderate_forum be the equivalent of the 'any' permission if there were actually such permissions.

In absence of having a real 'own/any' pair of permissions, it's using 'is it the owner' or 'can they moderate the forum'. That's really what I'm stating there, it made sense in my head >_>

Egad, I need sleep *yawn*

Works for me. It should also be indicated as noindex in the headers too.

Ugh, I missed that somehow, though oddly it never threw any errors when I ran the code >_>

No doubt, you are what you are. But theres a difference between you two acknowledging each other as equals, and seeing everyone else as not having a clue.
I start off assuming people don't have a clue until they prove otherwise, simply because that's a simpler and easier way to view the world, and sadly I keep finding it's all too accurate, given how many people don't even read what's in front of them.

What is Dogbert? A spin-off of Dilbert?
Dogbert is a regular character in the Dilbert strip, he is a dog, very cynical. Often a 'management consultant' of sorts, or world ruler, amongst other things.
