yeah...   I didn't go into the entire list of companions... :)
Neither did I ;)

I actually kinda liked Adric, but then again, he was there WITH Nyssa and Romana...
And he was piss irritating then too, heh. Not really surprising that his fate was actually to be one of the few companions who actually died.

I had completely forgotten Peri..  How could I have forgotten that?
Other than her boobs upstaging the Fifth Doctor's regeneration scene, and almost being throttled by the Sixth Doctor, she was mostly forgettable.

and ok... I'll give you Mel. I had also forgotten Mel... but only because I blocked it out.
I know WHY Ace was such a bad character... but it doesn't make the character any better, knowing the reason.
The entirety of Six and Seven's run was pretty messed up, not because of their acting talents or any perceived lack of them, but because the storywriting really was that bad.

I'm not sure what I should do then... Try to reproduce, or add a failsafe to the JS, or just ignore it?
It's working now, so whatever has been changed lately was what was breaking it...

Off-topic / Re: Game Memorial
« on August 18th, 2012, 12:43 AM »
Trying something a little bit different today. For the Game-A-Day blog posts, I actually massaged OpenGraph meta tags into the page through a particularly heinous brand of evil. (I grab the content during the template, scavenge what I need and then inject it back during the relevant output buffer. Except for the og:url meta tag which has a different format to Pretty URLs' expectations and I couldn't figure out how to conveniently make it work, so I manually fudged the Pretty URL back to the right page. It's fucking ugly, seriously.)

The main reason I'm trying this is because I'm curious to see how practical - or not - it is having OG tags in the page and how useful that is for people sharing on Facebook. I also have the feeling it might have some SEO benefits down the line as it provides an interesting piece of meta-data - for a given page you insert information on its title (sans site keywords like you'd put in <title> elements if you were so inclined), a type for the item in question, a canonical URL (why it needs a different one, I don't know) and a thumbnail picture.

Of course I have a specific use for the thumbnail pictures, but I can conceivably imagine these things would fit very nicely with media items and possibly things like articles and blog posts - so I'm trying them out.

(As I said, I wanted to try things out in a live environment that can be beneficial to Wedge. :))

Well, it seems (from what I see in the changelogs) that they replaced the default theme with Penguin this week, so I was right on time or something.
*shrug* Moving on from Curve had to happen sooner or later.

And it's looking pretty good. Not Wedge-good I'm afraid, but good enough that there are a couple of details I might as well steal from them (the conveniently located Unread links for boards perhaps, the fine yet still sober buttons which really make me think I should reuse my own button stylings for topic buttons), and good enough that I'm amused (rather than upset) that they took ideas from Wedge... Again ;)
Among more minor things, the more noticeable is that they now use a mini-menu for post actions, just like Wedge.
Well, a mini-menu for actions is definitely an improvement, and I'm not in the slightest surprised that things are going both ways. In some ways I'm actually kind of pleased because what it means is there is less hostility going on and more that everyone's doing what's best for the software and community.

I just have to ask though... What is it with everyone going for Segoe UI these days? I'm actually considering just staying with Arial 14px because there are so many Segoe UI forums these days
It's popular, available easily and looks good. Hardly surprising more people are using it.

Will anyone notice see it?
Like I said, audience of three. I suspect it will be noticed, so I might just put it in to see how long it takes to get noticed.

I think that 'extra' or 'extras' is probably the most neutral of all. And thus would both work for browser hacks and sub-skins.
Works for me.

Keep up the good work, Nao! Even if I don't post a lot, I always love to see what you have to offer! I know it's bit of a rush, but will you marry me?
Wait are you reading my mind? (don't, it's a mess in here)

Use it as your avatar, it's the closest thing you'll be getting to a sign
Well, there is a noticeboard in the hallway, I guess...
Quote
Could you look into the source code? I've found the reason why drafts no longer auto-save (well, they do but it doesn't give any feedback.) This is because of my change to weUrl() etc... In editor-func, the action form URL is called, and because it no longer has ';xml' in it, Subs-Post.php (and others) are test $context['is_ajax'] instead. Well, it seems that it returns false, and because of that draftXmlReturn() is never called. Can you test why is_ajax is false when it should be true, since it's really Ajax stuff...?
Thanks! Gotta go to bed...
I'll certainly try and take a look.

Off-topic / Randomly I wish I worked in an office

I don't currently work in a physical office with other people, but I have done in the past. And for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of communal office space (like a noticeboard in the kitchens), you don't know what you're missing.

Specifically, you get the joy of a shared space where people air their views on society in all sorts of interesting ways - and all sorts of funny signs emerge. The infamous one, of course, is 'You don't have to be mad to work here but it helps'

I suddenly realised I would love to work in an office at present, just because I decided I wanted to put up my own sign:
Quote
You don't have to be completely cynical of humanity to work here, but it helps
There is also a secondary irony in that, that would have been clear to the people I used to work with in the sub-prime mortgage market, where just about everyone seemed to be trying to lie about their income or whatever to get a mortgage...

I have no idea why I want to put such a sign up, just that I know I want to. I mean, I could still put such a sign up around the house and the other folks here would get the joke. But it's a waste of effort for an audience of three (including me) :/

Actually I'd seen that before but it's still awesome, heh. It also reminds me of Minecraft and that a Doctor Who themed mod for MC would be awesome.

(The answer is no before anyone asks. I refuse to get into Java.)

Off-topic / Re: The Humble Indie Bundle V
« on August 16th, 2012, 07:20 PM »
It's mostly interesting if you have an Android device. But the current bundle is actually quite poor in some ways.

BIT.TRIP BEAT is pretty fun, though I imagine it will be quite hard to play on a touchscreen device (works quite well with a mouse), Uplink is an interesting concept but surprisingly dull to play, SpaceChem is sufficiently complex that I don't want to learn how to play even modestly complex levels, let alone the really hard ones.

The others... no idea.

It's a custom usort. Look at the code ;)
I hadn't looked at that point but I sort of wondered if it were a custom usort, what the problem was with just switching the order of things around. addendum works, as does hacks really. Call it what it is.

If it's a real sorting function, how does it end up with index, then paths, then sections anyway?

Quite annoying really... I'm pretty impressed at the number of bugs that I keep adding to the templating system!
That is, unfortunately, that nature of the beast.

Oh... Sorry about that. So it's the followup to recent weeks then..?
Yup.

I like that syntax structure, and I'd keep the square brackets to be honest.

So... What happened? I did notice you weren't there
My grandfather is in hospital with a stroke, I spent the last day or so with my grandmother who requires 24-hour care, and then arrange transfer to a care home.

It's more that the underlying system makes it easier to use the newer CSS goodies, and to make life easier in general for themers to do something interesting.
