Off-topic / Re: Doctor Who
« on August 18th, 2012, 08:39 PM »yeah... I didn't go into the entire list of companions... :)
I actually kinda liked Adric, but then again, he was there WITH Nyssa and Romana...
I had completely forgotten Peri.. How could I have forgotten that?
and ok... I'll give you Mel. I had also forgotten Mel... but only because I blocked it out.
I know WHY Ace was such a bad character... but it doesn't make the character any better, knowing the reason.

« on August 18th, 2012, 12:43 AM »
Trying something a little bit different today. For the Game-A-Day blog posts, I actually massaged OpenGraph meta tags into the page through a particularly heinous brand of evil. (I grab the content during the template, scavenge what I need and then inject it back during the relevant output buffer. Except for the og:url meta tag which has a different format to Pretty URLs' expectations and I couldn't figure out how to conveniently make it work, so I manually fudged the Pretty URL back to the right page. It's fucking ugly, seriously.)
The main reason I'm trying this is because I'm curious to see how practical - or not - it is having OG tags in the page and how useful that is for people sharing on Facebook. I also have the feeling it might have some SEO benefits down the line as it provides an interesting piece of meta-data - for a given page you insert information on its title (sans site keywords like you'd put in <title> elements if you were so inclined), a type for the item in question, a canonical URL (why it needs a different one, I don't know) and a thumbnail picture.
Of course I have a specific use for the thumbnail pictures, but I can conceivably imagine these things would fit very nicely with media items and possibly things like articles and blog posts - so I'm trying them out.
(As I said, I wanted to try things out in a live environment that can be beneficial to Wedge. :))

Other software / Re: More thoughts on SMF 2.1
« on August 17th, 2012, 11:35 PM »Well, it seems (from what I see in the changelogs) that they replaced the default theme with Penguin this week, so I was right on time or something.
And it's looking pretty good. Not Wedge-good I'm afraid, but good enough that there are a couple of details I might as well steal from them (the conveniently located Unread links for boards perhaps, the fine yet still sober buttons which really make me think I should reuse my own button stylings for topic buttons), and good enough that I'm amused (rather than upset) that they took ideas from Wedge... Again ;)
Among more minor things, the more noticeable is that they now use a mini-menu for post actions, just like Wedge.
I just have to ask though... What is it with everyone going for Segoe UI these days? I'm actually considering just staying with Arial 14px because there are so many Segoe UI forums these days

Keep up the good work, Nao! Even if I don't post a lot, I always love to see what you have to offer! I know it's bit of a rush, but will you marry me?

« on August 17th, 2012, 12:56 AM »Use it as your avatar, it's the closest thing you'll be getting to a sign
Could you look into the source code? I've found the reason why drafts no longer auto-save (well, they do but it doesn't give any feedback.) This is because of my change to weUrl() etc... In editor-func, the action form URL is called, and because it no longer has ';xml' in it, Subs-Post.php (and others) are test $context['is_ajax'] instead. Well, it seems that it returns false, and because of that draftXmlReturn() is never called. Can you test why is_ajax is false when it should be true, since it's really Ajax stuff...?
Thanks! Gotta go to bed...

I don't currently work in a physical office with other people, but I have done in the past. And for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of communal office space (like a noticeboard in the kitchens), you don't know what you're missing.
Specifically, you get the joy of a shared space where people air their views on society in all sorts of interesting ways - and all sorts of funny signs emerge. The infamous one, of course, is 'You don't have to be mad to work here but it helps'
I suddenly realised I would love to work in an office at present, just because I decided I wanted to put up my own sign:Quote There is also a secondary irony in that, that would have been clear to the people I used to work with in the sub-prime mortgage market, where just about everyone seemed to be trying to lie about their income or whatever to get a mortgage...
I have no idea why I want to put such a sign up, just that I know I want to. I mean, I could still put such a sign up around the house and the other folks here would get the joke. But it's a waste of effort for an audience of three (including me) :/

Actually I'd seen that before but it's still awesome, heh. It also reminds me of Minecraft and that a Doctor Who themed mod for MC would be awesome.
(The answer is no before anyone asks. I refuse to get into Java.)

Off-topic / Re: The Humble Indie Bundle V

It's mostly interesting if you have an Android device. But the current bundle is actually quite poor in some ways.
BIT.TRIP BEAT is pretty fun, though I imagine it will be quite hard to play on a touchscreen device (works quite well with a mouse), Uplink is an interesting concept but surprisingly dull to play, SpaceChem is sufficiently complex that I don't want to learn how to play even modestly complex levels, let alone the really hard ones.
The others... no idea.

If it's a real sorting function, how does it end up with index, then paths, then sections anyway?

I like that syntax structure, and I'd keep the square brackets to be honest.Quote My grandfather is in hospital with a stroke, I spent the last day or so with my grandmother who requires 24-hour care, and then arrange transfer to a care home.
So... What happened? I did notice you weren't there

It's more that the underlying system makes it easier to use the newer CSS goodies, and to make life easier in general for themers to do something interesting.
