The Pub / Re: Current status of the beta?

In this board is the very topic where you could apply to become an alpha tester... we've never set any numbers, but the topic does explain what we are looking for.

! When adding a new bbcode from a plugin, make sure to fill in the len cache. (ManagePlugins.php)

! Use the correct variable when passing the bbc buttons through the hook. (Class-Editor.php)

! When something that could be an image is passed as the 'image' parameter, treat it as a full URL. Detection is handled based on // rather than anything else because // is becoming a valid URL prefix to indicate schemeless requests (e.g. images requested with whatever the main page is using). (Class-Editor.php)

Plugins / LMGTFY
« on December 14th, 2012, 12:48 AM »
Yeah, I was going to do this sometime or another, partly to test the bbcode integration in the plugin manager and partly to test the hook changes with the wedit class, neither of which I've done in a while.

It's fairly pedestrian, it just adds a simple button, but I've found two bug fixes and a minor enhancement to be added as a result, so it was worth it ^_^

Cool, just curious really.

Is this one done/semi-done? Just curious as you haven't mentioned it in a while.

Plugins / Re: Message Index Sorting
« on December 13th, 2012, 11:22 PM »
Yes, it could be done by a plugin. It probably wouldn't be a very nice plugin, it certainly wouldn't be very efficient to do (mostly because it's not possible to do it *that* efficiently)

Though, I'd argue that finding topics by starting letter is not something most people need to do that often, and when they do, they can switch to sorting by letter and paging through. In 6 1/2 years of running forums, I've only had to worry about sorting by alphabetic the grand total of twice, and one of those was involved in testing the changes I added to Wedge for being able to set what the default ordering of a board is and whether the user actually has the choice (you can set a board to default to, say, first post rather than last post, and you can force it so the user can't change it, but it doesn't add any new choices, only the ones actually present in SMF and Wedge already, whether there is an interface for it or not...)

Oh, there isn't an interface for this just yet, but the ability to set the ordering on a board has been around without an interface for months. Just a quick DB edit away, for now.

I know I'm not an active user on the forums here but thats cause what time I have I try to spend on my work and social life instead.
Gotta say that's generally going to count against you here, being active in what's gone on thus far is something of a pre-requisite.

But also the Calendar function depending on how it would function.
The calendar that currently doesn't work in almost any fashion.

WoW Raid Manager for scheduling raids
Which doesn't exist for Wedge and won't until someone writes it - and that won't be me. I have enough plugins to write as it is.
Quote
And all heck of different self coded things to fetch the data that I think is needed here and there.
Most of which will need to be redesigned from, not 'just' rewritten.

And then TinyPortal to get some sort of site instead of only having the forum itself.
Another mod which won't be ported to Wedge.

So perhaps the best answer is, Everything?
Everything except all the functions you've pointed out that you actually want, you mean...

But can I simply upgrade it from current SMF or I have to make a new install?
As we have said several times we are not releasing the converter at this time.

Development blog / Re: It only took two guys two years...

Sure it can ;)

To be honest I'd prefer to get everything we have out in A3, and then have A4 predominantly about the ban and warning stuff where it can be examined mostly in isolation, and once that's the case, we can look at tidying up and thinking about beta since that's the last 'big' thing that's missing at this stage.

Yeah, I was thinking about that given the additions I made to moderation filters. Now all I need to do is finish the overhauled ban and warning system.

The lettering is fine, if a bit bland; the tail of the g is nice, but I'm not entirely sure about it.

I remembered there was one, but I couldn't judge how short to make the string.

Off-topic / Re: XenForo lawsuit
« on December 11th, 2012, 03:18 AM »
I mostly pieced it together from reading what used to be xenforosucks.com which became forumcomplaints.com, but it's been sold to someone else who will be redeveloping it, and likely dumping all the interesting content there.

You're not alone, actually. There's quite a few people who are surprised with how little there is, comparatively. 1.2 was supposed to fix a lot but the way the lawsuit dragged on (we're two years in now) has done a lot to screw around with Kier and Mike; I believe Mike now runs his own photography business while I know Kier and his wife split up.
