And that's two platforms I've never heard of and one that is by comparison so niche it's unreal. WordPress has come to the fore for some reason[1] and most people don't know anything else.

The point I was making is that while there *are* alternatives to WP, they're a long way down the totem pole, while in the forum world, it's not as if there is one serious front-runner, there are several that all joust for position.
 1. And that reason certainly isn't merit.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I found, I just mostly wanted to check in case other countries did something funny.

(There is a reason I'm asking, you might have spotted in lurking in the screenshots of the new ban system.)

I'm still not entirely convinced that OS is entirely necessary if you can figure out browser and resolution, but if you're sure it's needed, then it's not far-fetched.

Off-topic / GMail domains

Can people give me a complete list of official GMail domains that can receive email, including GoogleMail domains? I kind of need this and I can't find it online thus far.

So far I have:
gmail.com
googlemail.com
gmail.de

Domains that are not GMail domains:
gmail.ru

I'm not actually expecting much more, just want to make sure I get the right ones.

I got nothing :(

Quick, name one other pure blogging platform out there that isn't WordPress.

Therein lies the challenge. WP is crap, of course, but there's a real shortage of other platforms that aren't hosted. Yes, there's MovableType but I'm still not sure how much of it actually requires Perl any more. Other than that... I'm struggling to think of any that you can actually host yourself on standard hosting.

On the other hand, there's a multitude of forum packages - off the top of my head, there's Wedge, SMF, MyBB, phpBB, PunBB, FluxBB, Vanilla, YaBB... *deep breath* IPB, vBulletin, XenForo, Woltlab Burning Board, WowBB *deep breath* and that's before getting into the likes of Joomla and Drupal's forum modules (the 'official' ones), or for that matter things like bbPress.

Much as I hate to legitimise it, http://www.forum-software.org/vote-for-best-forum-software-of-2012 lists a lot of software.[1]
 1. I don't like legitimising it because it's not about the software, things like that are simply about how many people shout it from the rooftops, and you have people like the MyBB fanboys who are about as bad as the Apple fanboys in shouting down opposition and ignoring the truth. They're not all that bad, but all the ones I've had the misfortune to encounter are.

! Bah, commit overlap. Moving all styling for the admin percent sliders to the management CSS which also has some stuff for the new ban page, which I might as well commit the styling for while I'm at it. This is all still not finished, mind. (Admin.template.php, mana.css, ban_items.png)

! Added new type for settings in the admin panel: percent. Using much the same code as the profile/issue warning template, it's now possible to add a shiny draggable selector for settings. Also added a note to the profile to say that if it is changed, the admin equivalent should possibly be touched too. I would note this isn't really finished, but I wanted to get a 'working' version committed. It isn't pretty at all at the code level, but it does support multiple selectors per page, too. I totally didn't need this for my new ban system or anything. (plugin-info.rng, ManageServer.php, ManageSettings.php, Admin.template.php)

There are some people who like Apple devices and build quality but are not fanbois. (Like me.)

What it comes back to is that it is a tool for a job, and that you shouldn't try to do what Java does and force everything into this object pattern because it makes it ugleeeee.

Sure... the problem is that there are people who have it in their head that OOP is the 'answer to everything' and anything that isn't fully OOP is fundamentally wrong. Mind you, there are plenty of other issues to address in the free space first...

And another one.

In case it's not obvious, the ? by gmail.com is because the domain is set to be a "GMail style domain" as part of the ban. That means the GMail variations will be dealt with in the ban, e.g. john.smith, j.o.h.n.smith and all such variations plus +labels will all be ignored for the purposes of matching that ban.

I haven't made up my mind exactly what to allow/disallow with IP banning yet, whether it will allow wildcarding like that (and naturally for IPv6 too) or whether it will require CIDR blocks like that, or allow both. What I will say is that wildcard matching is faster than CIDR matching so I might just drop CIDR matching for bans and leave it as wildcards.

Not really :P

Seriously, I'm not saying it would be better or worse, just that as it stands I'm reminded strongly of Nike, and vaguely (when prompted) of Amazon, not of anything forum related.

I gotta say that the Nike logo came to mind long before you mentioned Amazon - I can see the similarity but it's still more Nike than Amazon.
