As far as I know, the media upload doesn't work properly on mobile devices. The main attachments clearly do.

Ideally, they'd go in directly to the sources, including loadSource calls etc. as necessary with direct function calls as and when appropriate.

That seems logical, though it might confuse people as to why they aren't getting notifications. At the very least I think replies to posts would need to be a core feature if the notification innards becomes core.

Eh, it's a blog post pointing to other icon sets.

Fugue and Diagona we already use,[1] Glyphish I've used on another project[2] while FamFamFam Silk I've used before, seems a bit passe now because it's been 'everywhere'.

 1. And I hold licences to use them without attribution, too.
 2. And I hold licences for both Pro 3 and Pro 4

Why are people talking about smileys? This is NOT ABOUT SMILEYS. They just happen to share the same stupid admin area.

but Bloc had his own little icons,
Pretty much all of Bloc's themes used the default SMF icons. I'm not talking about general icons or navigation. I'm talking about the icons that can be selected in posts, e.g.

Well, I was more joking about the 3DS, I don't know anyone who seriously uses their browser, except maybe the homebrew crowd. Same deal about the PS3 and XBox, they don't seem like the type.

That bottom set can't be edited - because there's specific code to drive them. I guess we could make it so if people wanted, but it seems like a lot of work for something most people won't even notice. I guess that's why I'm wary of the UI, because it's not something that really needs to be that configurable.

So, here's what I've been working on. As you can see, the 'manage message icons' screen is largely untouched, but the bottom bit is the new bit.

This is stuff that isn't really configurable, but that I do want to show to users so they can be aware of it. I'm thinking about giving clip and the mobile icons an on/off option on it.

I don't know why I don't like it. I just don't like it.

Also, anyone got any objection to putting in a Nintendo 3/DS icon as a mobile device?

There's not much about our old forum that I miss, but here's how they display post icons (sorry, this is the least-worst example I can find).
It's how vB does it and it's not bad at all. I haven't decided to or not to do it yet, though I won't deny I like the compactness of the current setup.

Do the smilies' tool-tips have various languages?
This is the problem. Right now they do not - but they didn't before unless you were using the stock set of icons. Note that I am NOT talking about smileys but the message icons (which, for no reason I can fathom, are in the same admin area)

! If displaying a moved-topic notice, discourage search engines from indexing it. (Display.php)

! Twitter URL isn't the same as it used to be. (ManageMemberOptions.php)

! A little overhaul on the manage message icons code, namely consistency in the UI is good, unbreaking deleting message icons and disabling this nonsense of having to 'enable customized' icons, they're on and on for good. SSI is still questionable but that has a lot of consequences I don't want to get into just yet, and the UI needs more love but I haven't figured out what I want it to look like yet. I won't speak for the military aspect; but as far as car insurance goes, that's true here too - but it isn't a sexist thing. It is simply that the insurance companies receive fewer claims against insurance from women.

Large cookies FTW.
It's not just large cookies, or the rest of the HTTP header crap, it's also the TCP/IP packet itself ;)

You wanted to embed sort_down/sort_up to save bandwidth. I understand that. These files aren't used on every page, but it's all right. I don't see the other issue.
Actually, I wanted to just make it controllable from the CSS rather than inline images. Everything else is just a byproduct of that fact.
Quote
Did you try without spriting..?
I didn't, no, but given the fact it went from 146 bytes to 90 for the pair, I didn't think it was worth the effort in spending much time on it. That could probably be shrunk even more if I really wanted to, e.g. making sure to only use the minimum number of colours possible (which is 3)
Quote
I should say -- there are a few icons (can't remember which) that I wanted to sprite, then I tested the results and was surprised to see that the sprite file was making the CSS file bigger after gzipping
That implies a non-common palette.

Oh, so that annoying snow came from your place eh?
It stopped snowing some hours ago, but yes, probably was our fault.

More seriously, it's still something I want to explore, although I have to admit it won't be interesting to a lot of people...
I think it will likely confuse more people than it would help. I actually think defaulting inline-block to vertical-align: baseline would probably be better than vertical align to middle, but try it.

Hmm, I wonder, should I push them out to CSS like the smileys?
Posted: March 12th, 2013, 04:59 PM

The downside to that is for SSI use, the CSS file generally won't get loaded :/

hold the door for other men or simply do not do any of those things for anyone.
And yet again you miss the point, or conveniently ignore it because it doesn't fit your argument. If we don't hold the door, etc., we're considered impolite or arrogant, or superior, etc. So we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. Just being damned if we do is less worse than being damned if we don't, it seems.

The only reason why I was accepted in SMF team back in 2010 is because I'm a woman, not because I was good at support or anything, that stuff came in latter, the very first approach was because I'm a woman.
Don't play the 'victim' card. It's not because of that, it's because you spent time hanging around and have some idea what you're talking about (more than most), which is what they were looking for.
Quote
Believe me, been a woman in a third world, misogynist country, I better than anyone else knows about gender discrimination. Heck, I suffer it on a daily basics
Stop playing the victim card, it does you no favours. Don't make me say the L word because that provokes the 'woe is me' attitude again.
Quote
It is bad that womens on your country take advantages of their position, there are all kinds of womans and there are all kinds of men too, generalizing a whole gender based on specific cases doesn't do any good.
But that's the point we're trying to make. If they can't take advantage, they cry repression.
Quote
What I'm saying is that both gender takes advantages and both genders sees themselves as victims.
In your country, maybe. Not here.

Can you re-read my post? As I said in it, you can perfectly embed both small files in the CSS, it doesn't have to be sprited... I feel like you've been mixing things up...
I'm not mixing anything up. Inlining, whether or not you sprite, means you don't make HTTP roundtrips. That's a bandwidth saving of a surprising magnitude - anything between 100 and 1500 bytes per request, or more in some particularly vile cases.

There are two separate issues here and I think you missed what my commit actually did to a point ;)
Quote
These sort images are linked thematically so it's okay to sprite them (you can't change one without changing the other!), but theoretically there's no need to sprite them. Just embed them both. The only extra cost is the 5 bytes I mentioned. No round trips.
I'm well aware that I didn't need to sprite them. However, the byte saving seemed worth it to me ;)
Quote
Then you probably missed something I guess... :^^;:
Or I didn't explain it very well, more likely. Yes, I'm well aware I can embed individual images one at a time. There's plenty of places this is done. And it would make for easier CSS not to have to make sprites, but it would tend to make larger CSS if you have a bunch of images with common palette.

But if you have a group of images that naturally fit together, there is no good reason not to make a sprite out of them. It keeps the filesize down on disk, it keeps the CSS smaller in most cases from what I've seen and if you're going to modify it, you're going to modify at least substantial parts of a given sprite anyway.

On requirement..?
Leave what as is? All icons?
Then, I suppose, strip the vertical-align out of .inline-block and then fix stuff as I find them..?
I don't know, didn't sleep well, feel like crap and I need to hike out in a bit to get more bread and stuff - in the several inches of snow we had yesterday.
