Wedge.org broken in IE11
« on August 15th, 2014, 01:06 AM »
The last couple of days Wedge.org looks completly broken in IE11 (Windows 8.1). See attachment.
This was also before the updates on patch tuesday 12 aug 2014.
I tried with other themes in Wedge. All kind of settings in IE.
I deleted the Temporary Internet Files. I did reset IE to its default value etc.
So far no luck and I am stuck.
Anybody an idea?

Looks like the CSS just isn't loaded. Anything in the error console?

Original (Dutch)
SCRIPT1014: Ongeldig teken
Bestand: script-m-472042.js.gz, regel: 1, kolom: 1

SCRIPT438: De eigenschap of methode mime wordt niet ondersteund door dit object
Bestand: wedge.org, regel: 322, kolom: 2

Translated (Google)
SCRIPT1014: Invalid character
File: script-m-472042.js.gz, line 1, column 1

SCRIPT438: The property or method mime is not supported by this object
File: wedge.org, line 322, column 2

I hope this is what you mend

Did you clear your cache?
Is this only on wedge, org, or on your local install?
# dpkg-reconfigure brain
error: brain is not installed or configured

It happens visiting this site, Wedge.org
I have no local install.
Cleared Temporary Internet Files and Cookies multiple times.

Meanwhile I tested with IE11 on Windows 7 and three different computers. It goes wrong on all of them.
Nobody else seeing this?
Then I guess it must be something on my computers. But what?

Silly suggestion, but... Can you try switching to English?

I don't have IE11 on any on my machines. I'm only using IE10, because I'm more comfortable with its developer tools. Bummer!

Weddge.org and my forum work well from a Windows 7 / IE11 laptop. I'll try again with Windows 8.1 when I'll be back at home on monday.

Thanks for your message.
That would mean it's really something on my computers (1 Win 8.1 & 3 Win 7)
I hope I find time tomorrow to do more research on it.

Again, I think it's related to the language. But your error log indicates you're using English so I'm not sure.

Great, just saw that modern.ie offers VMs for IE11, so I might be able to just test.

Tried on VM Windows 7 + IE 11... Result: everything working great.
Now, if only Microsoft distributed VMs for Win8...

You're the second one reporting it's working with IE11 on Windows 7
I'm having the problem on three different computers running Windows 7 and IE11
So it's almost certain it must be something overhere.
The only thing all my computers have in common is the ESET NOD32 antivirus programm. So on one computer I deïnstalled it, cleaned the register, deleted the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies and started the computer again. No luck, still a distorted look.
As soon as I find more time I'll investigate further.

You mentioned changing language to English.
I will find out how and then try that.

Ah yes it could be a firewall or something...

Just remember; you need to determine what CSS file (*.css.gz) is being requested by your failed page (check out the page's source code), and why. (Try loading this file directly in your browser.)

I am having the same problem on different computers, for both Wedge.org and for my own site.  This is with IE11 on Windows 8.1.
