Took a break over christmas, and started pondering this today..
Suddenly, Bingo, Eureka moment..
main domain has hotlinking prevention via htaccess. wedge.velorooms subdomain hadnt been added to the exceptions list.
idiot..
i have however now finished all my updates and things i had to do on my main 2.0.3 installation, so the coming months is just wedge testing. (basically after talking with my other admin guy we have ended all our development on 2.0.3 as of december when the new season starts, and then we are focussing on developing for the next stage)

Sorry, had to have some time away from the computer due to some personal stuff.
Back now. Zapped the subdomain, reconfigured, re-installed, and still the same problem. (and bizarrely im greated with "welcome hacker!" on the page.. wedge.velorooms.com
happy to send ftp and database details if you want to try and get to the root of it.
Dim
this should probably be in bug reports.
Just did some tests. Tried changing theme and skins. getting a lot of "no such file errors" regarding putting files to the css folder, and "permission denied" errors re the js directory.
Seems to be mainly
line 662 - ==>662: file_put_contents($final_file, $final);
and 962 ==>922: file_put_contents($final_file, $final);
of subs-cache

« on November 9th, 2012, 03:37 PM »You probably have a problem similar to velorooms'...
I think you're gonna have to share your FTP credentials with me so I can debug in real time at install time. Not fond about this kind of thing but I did it a lot back when I was in charge of AeMe... I probably even already did it for you ;)
But time for bed anyway... Hopefully tomorrow I should have more time to devote to Wedge.

« on November 4th, 2012, 05:01 PM »Why are you recompiling Apache when it's a PHP module?

« on November 4th, 2012, 04:43 PM »That wasn't a 'you need mbstring', that was a 'do you have it?' because the code goes through different paths depending on whether you have it or not. In theory it's supposed to load a compatibility layer if it is not installed... (but I wanted to check whether it's not detecting it properly, or it's not loading the layer properly)
Just recompiling apache now with it. Had already starting compiling when you mentioned it.
was fine with that module installed. Interestingly though, it had succesfully created my admin user despite the error message.

The Pub / Re: Looking for volunteers to test the Wedge private alpha!
« on October 31st, 2012, 04:35 PM »While I'm okay with giving beta access to people who at least seem enthusiastic about the project (velorooms here was a lurker but I think he seems to be fit to help for the alpha?), I'm certainly not okay with giving access to people who flat-out point out how mysterious they are.
The beta will be private, but only to ensure it doesn't get out of control too soon. The bug reports will be public.
To me, 'mysterious people' will have to wait for a public alpha.
The other problem is, as soon as the alpha or beta is out for widescale release, people start using it as a platform in the wild, for live forums, and you end up with an "unfinished" product, that may or may not have bugs, or unfinished features, being used in a real world environment which can create a negative impression of said product.
With a closed testing program if it is being used on live forums at least you can control where its being used, and make sure that members of that forum are aware its an "alpha" platform.

On a side note, really pleased that the momentum seems to be growing as far as development goes. Following the forum for a while it was all systems go, then seemed to die off a bit, and was worried it might go the way of other forks. Interesting to read the politics behind it all on the smf forum as well. :D

Features: Security / Re: Bad Behavior
« on October 29th, 2012, 05:21 PM »You do know that we've been running Wedge here for 6 months, right? ;)
That would account for the lack of shoe spammers. :D
the downside of running a cycling forum, is because of some of the topics of discussion you tend to get an awful lot of persistent spammers trying to sell doping products.

thanks for that.
Sorry to ask things already answered. Have been browsing the site for about a year but still finding my way around. Theres a huge amount of info here.
Yes, the stop spammer isnt totally perfect although it puts things its not sure about in an approval queue so you can individually check certain users. The extra work on captchas etc sounds good. I guess its one of these things that once tested in a real world environment will prove its worth.
Many thanks.

Was just looking for somewhere to ask this very question.
Bad Behaviour is a good first line of defence but are there any future anti spam measures anticipated.
We currently use Bad Behaviour in conjunction with Stop Spammer. Bad Behaviour seems to be having limited effect, its all set up perfectly, honeypots and everything else, and in the last 7 days its stopped 382 intrusions, but there are still huge amounts that get past it.
The stop spammer mod linked above is absolutely superb, We are well into 5 digits for spammers blocked (it checks email address, username and ip address) and as yet ive (europe based) not had to delete a single spammer although my aussie mods say they have deleted a handful from that timezone.
Would be interested to know what the anti spam plans are going forward (but appreciate you all have a lot on)
