Will do... though PM can't attach a file. I wanted to jog your memory of something that we touched on re email from a ticket, and I have a visual aide. :)
Email from the ticket is extremely nice BTW. Has worked without a hitch. Ticket monitoring is beautiful also. My only complaint is that I can't ping messages back and forth with another staff member without also pinging the client. Last night I worked late, and commented on a ticket several times back and forth with another staff, but we wished we didn't need to fill the client's email inbox with the discussion. Which reminded me of this possible alternate email checklist.

Let me know when and where it's appropriate, and I'll fire up the ol' feeback-o-matic. :)

And the ones which I've assigned to our accountant, which are waiting for her to close them, I can ignore those ones completely for now, but I can't really tell them apart from an important open ticket.
You mean, put the results of the tally plugin into the grid? Eeek, could get expensive, but I already have an idea for fixing that...Quote Tie a column in the grid to the tally plugin.

My primary UI feedback after using it in a live business environment for 7 days now is to scrap the whole paradigm of "Status" being automatically set by the system. Don't limit status to New, Awaiting User Response, Awaiting Staff Response, and Closed. Allow the status field to be user-editable, and to have other choices added to the pick list. Such as...
New
In Progress
Accountant Review
Customer Review
On Hold
Billed
Paid
Closed
Closed/Not Billed
Anyway, those are the statuses that are desired by our accountant. I'm currently using a custom field for it, but of course I'd like to have that column available in the main grids and sortable.
Combine the Awaiting User Response and Awaiting Staff Response grids into one grid, and if desired, display who's turn it is to respond in a column.
If you decide to keep them separate grids, at least put the assigned column in the Awaiting User Response grid.
Tie a column in the grid to the tally plugin.
...allright... I'd better stop. When you're looking for feedback, let me know. :)

« on August 30th, 2011, 05:53 PM »Here's where it starts to get very problematic - I don't think you can resell it like that. Buying an app in the App Store is tied to your Apple ID, which is inherently tied to your devices (whatever Apple based gizmos you have, be they regular Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod), so I don't think you can buy en-masse, but I could be wrong. I haven't gone into the details there.Quote Branding doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as if I could purchase a bunch of licenses for smart phone apps that could interface with the help desk that I run. Then I'd resell those licenses to my clients at a small profit, or even at a loss. I'd recoup that money by selling access to the help desk, and you'd get your cut from the App Store.

I've got Tapatalk on my iPhone, and it does a good job of making a SMF forum usable on such a small screen. But what I'm thinking is that an iPhone app, which integrates with a free helpdesk, could make some money, and do it via the App Store. There's no need to worry about sending out monthly bills for hosting help desks, no need to sell software in the open market.... just an app for sale in the App Store for $20 a pop. There's more money to be made there than in selling me one copy of a smart phone friendly theme, because I've got 10-15 clients who would be in the market for such an iPhone app.

That was what got me hooked. I, along with my boss, started our own called 'The Index Linked BBS' (FIDONet 2:254/94), in 1986/7 running Wildcat BBS software by Mustang.
I wonder if any of the old timers here might have had the honor of Violet Stymacks making you an ASCII art screen? I never had, but always wished I did.

I know people who regularly use the term 'couple' to mean 3 or 4.
Now if you were asking for punches in the arm instead of candy, the exchange rate was different. :)

Thanks Nao. I appreciate the welcome and kind words. Yeah, I've been an occasional lurker. I'm looking forward to seeing what Wedge will look like, though thus far I'd avoided putting another iron in the fire.
I just couldn't help posting on a BBS thread though, as I was completely addicted to BBSing for over a decade. I still vividly recall the first time I saw a friend log into a BBS, which would have been around 1989. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen on a computer, and I just had to know what was on the other end of that phone line, so I started a BBS and went for it hook, line and sinker. I made some good friends doing that.
I see that Googling "The learning curve BBS" still brings up a few hits on some old archived nodelists, as well as apparently a newer BBS using that name in Houston, Texas.

I miss the BBS days. I ran "The Learning Curve BBS" out of Torrance, CA... Fidonet (1:102/332). I ran it for 10 years, from 1990 to 2000. One public and one private node for a few friends. FrontDoor, FMail, RemoteAccess, x00, Blue Wave, JCQuick, THDProscan, and about 20-30 doors. I carried tons of echomail areas, and of course netmail and even internet email via a good friend who ran Salata BBS and could convert between netmail and email. The BBS multitasked under Desqview/QEMM and sat on a Novell 3.12 server.
My favorite part was that I gave computers to several of my users. I've always been a hardware geek, and everyone I know gives me their old junk machines, which I use to build Frankensteins. I'd give those old Frankensteins to users, which really blew a few minds, and made for some devoted users.
I was greatly saddened after the progression of Windows OS through 3.1/95/98/2000/XP made it so that you couldn't just give an old computer to anyone, because they all expected to be able to run the latest and greatest OS... because all they knew how to do is click on something and hope something good happens.
The first half of the 1990's was a heck of a good time in computing. Now you've got me waxing nostalgic. I'm looking at the batch file that ran the BBS. It's 8k of fun.
