Other software / Re: Change of code in order to suit the SSL version
« on October 31st, 2011, 09:08 PM »
Since the release of FireSheep, it's trivial to sniff a cookie based connection on an open WIFI.  It doesn't tell you a persons' password, but it allows you to login as them.  It was always possible before, it's just a lot easier now.  And SSL certs are getting cheaper all the time.  Supporting SSL is definitely an important feature for a forum.

But the Tardis had been destroyed...
It's been remade.  Now with four ports.

Why is the rum gone?  LOL!  :)  I loved that one.

You guys like to bang around a lot when programming.  I usually play unobtrusive music of a high melody symmetry, and the rhythmic portion is carried largely by the melody.  For instance, I believe that J. S. Bach is one of the greatest programming music composers ever.  He closes every loop, defines every variable, remembers every close paren.  It's mathematical precision of a very high order, and it gets my brain on the same wavelength.

This song right here, played just audibly, would be my style if I were coding to save my life.  :)

I can't resist showing off one more Tommy Emmanuel number.  It'll mean more to you if you're familiar with Nat King Cole's rendition of "Mona Lisa."  I'm not sure how popular that song ever got outside of the USA.

Tommy Emmanuel & Joscho Stephan - "Honeysuckle Rose" Live in Raalte, April 2006

I've been getting into Gypsy Jazz more and more lately.  Tommy Emmanuel & Joscho Stephan are my two favorites.  Sometimes you'd swear that the ghost of Django Reinhardt is living in the both of them.

Emmanuel is also the protege of the late-great Chet Atkins, and excels at the finger picking style of Atkins.  Here he is playing a medley of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.

And then seeing how much fun Emmanuel has playing with his older brother Phil... makes me long for the days when my brothers and I would have this kind of fun at anything.

Saw it in 1977 when I stopped by a friend's house and she and 10 of her girlfriends were all getting drunk and decided they wanted to go see it.  So me and 11 girls, all about  17-20 years old, crammed into my 1967 El Camino and drove to the Hermosa Beach Pier Theatre.  It was the crappiest movie I ever saw, but I had a hell of a time anyway.

I think if it were more functional, it would be more likely to be used. At the same time I can see that it's not exactly something that's needed that heavily.
Exactly my thoughts.  If the calendar were on the developers radar, being improved and having functionality added, I'd be more interested in it.  Or if I ran a forum that, like some, relied on scheduling, I'd be more up on it.  And to tell the truth, I'd be happy to see development be directed towards the calendar.  Things like being able to go to a particular day in the calendar and see various forum activity that occurred on that day.  Those types of things would make it useful to people individually, instead of being a global date book.

But, the way the calendar is now, it's not really functional enough.

RIP Steve Jobs.  For as young as he was when he traveled on, his journey here on Earth was impressive.  I don't know much about the man on a personal level, but it's safe to say that few who live to be twice his age will accomplish 1/100th in their professional careers.  I know for a fact that I could have never kept up with him, as my ambition doesn't measure up... though still, that's one garage I'd have liked to stumble upon back in 1976.  It must have been a hell of a ride!!!

Off-topic / MySQL Website Compromised; Serves Malware to Visitors

From SANS NewsBites Vol. 13 Num. 77,

--MySQL Website Compromised; Serves Malware to Visitors (September 26, 2011)

On Monday, September 26, the MySQL website was compromised and was being
used to serve malware. The attack was discovered about 5 AM PDT; the
site was cleaned up several hours later. The JavaScript code known as
the Black Hole exploit kit attempts to launch a series of known browser
attacks against site visitors. Security journalist Brian Krebs noted
that administrative access to the site was being offered last week on
the hacker underground for US $3,000.

[Editor's Note (Liston): This is the second time in a year that the
MySQL site has been compromised. The first compromise pegged the
ol' irony-meter by reportedly being the result of SQL-injection.  No
definitive word yet on the root cause of this latest attack.]

I think Doom made me wanna buy my first PC...
When it came out, and you could play against your friends via modem... that was HUGE for me and a couple of friends of mine.  My one buddy ran a BBS, as did I, and so we'd connect our computers on the BBS line, and we could talk on the voice line, and we'd play into the wee hours.  Those were some good times!

The only game on my machine is a port of Doom2 called Zdoom, which I play about once every couple of months.  I get bored with it and then I go look and there's thousands of WAD files out there, some of which are true labors of love.  For some reason I keep going back when I need a game fix.

I've been on the top of the World Trade Center.  It was a beautiful view.  While standing there looking out upon the curvature of the Earth, I never dreamed I might be making THIS decision...
