Archived fixes / Failed logins
« on April 24th, 2013, 01:50 PM »
This morning I tried to login but not remembering the password I tried the usual 2 or 3 (or 4 :P) and at some point the reminder popped up.
I didn't want to change the password (otherwise I'd have to repeat the logins on all the browser and computers I have around and that would be a pita  ), so I tried another time and got the message: "Sorry, but you've reached your login attempts threshold. Please wait 30 seconds and try again later.".
No problem, I decided to wait a bit. Now I switched on the "other" computer with all the passwords and found the one I use here so I tried again...but I'm still getting the same error: "Sorry, but you've reached your login attempts threshold. Please wait 30 seconds and try again later.".
Just to verify the password was up to date, I changed a setting in my profile and the password is correct.
Tried another browser just in case it was an issue with some cookie, but same result.

It may be a false positive, though I think it's worth reporting. ;)

Bug reports / Re: quote sent pm

I filled the report above after I faced the issue at sm.org...

Just to be sure I tried again right now and if you click "preview" you get the error message.
Funny enough if you click "send" it sends the message... LOL

in smf you can quote and reply to a sent pm with no problem, it is just an issue in wedge.
It has never been like that.
You cannot quote your own PMs in SMF (or better you can try to quote them, but you'll get an error message the moment you will try to send it.

And yes, it has annoyed me a couple of times, too... ;) (Not being able to quote my own sent PMs.)

Oh and as for customers if you didn't have them you wouldn't have the software in the first place, there would be no need for it >

Correct?
mmm...that's a sort of chicken-egg dilemma.
But, I can break the dilemma: I'm not coding for any customer. I'm coding for myself, if no one else were to use my software [1], I wouldn't be that concerned [2], so, from my own personal perspective, without "customers" there can be software, without "developers" no.

Disclaimer: what I wrote here has nothing to do with the main subject of the topic (i.e. I'm neither Kindred nor SMF's lawyer or spokesman).
 1. ...well, they would be indeed wise, but that's not the main point here :P
 2. yeah, maybe my ego would suffer a bit, but it already suffers for so many other issues that this would just be a drop in the sea

There were a bunch of issues with Lab's free version that he passed off by saying "they are all fixed in the pro version" (so I don't want to use that as a starting point.
But that's the funny part: the mod is there with an open source license (I mean the "lite"), so it can be fixed and redistributed by anyone interested, no need to wait for the paid version. ;)

(and yes, if I do make my own or make improvements, I would always share them. I am not in favor of making paid mods)
I'm not against. :P (though I almost never did any, just one or two and I still feel a bit guilty because I think I took too much money...meh, from time to time I feel I'm dumb... lol)

* emanuele is the one that started later in development: ~14 QBasic, ~18 VB6 [1] (and later some .NET) and ~27 PHP...

@Kindred: not sure if your comment was serious or not, though, why re-invent the wheel again and again and again? There is Lab's free version of the mod (under MPL, so anyone could take it, improve the code (change the name) and re-distribute the mod), there is Kays's version that is BSD.
Use one of those and if you have improvements put them somewhere so that people can grab them. ;)
 1. with in-between excel-formulas, yeah, I played with some nasty array of formulas to do not-so-basic things in the laboratory :P

From the dawn of time we came
Moving silently down through the centuries
Living many secret lives,
Struggling to reach the time of the Gathering
When the few who remain will battle to the last
No-one has ever known we were among you... until now.
And I can go bed laughing.

Yoshi, if you take a look at the old topics you will see you have not been the only one, just the last one (in time, for now).

P.S.
What the heck is your avatar?
I always wanted to ask, but always forgot...

That cannot be said for recent years team jumping, and its a shame. It proves my point that these teams and the desire to be higher up kills the peer mentality, it makes people look more at what they ARE(as in position) than it what they CAN.
This is something I tried to bang a drum about a bit back. I suggested either having a single 'team' badge, or displaying multiple badges for people to reflect the different things they do. Either of those seems to me to be better about focusing on what people can *do* rather than what they *are*.
Proposed (single team) several times me too, but always ignored.
